Li Deshu, too lazy to argue with Feng Yan, walked ahead on his own.

"Li Deshu, come back and carry me. If you don't, I won't move from here today," Feng Yan shouted at Li Deshu's retreating figure.

Without turning his head, Li Deshu replied, "Then stay there. There are wolves in the mountains. You might end up being eaten alive."

Feng Yan was scared but wouldn't back down. "Stop trying to scare me. I'm not afraid."

After walking a short distance, Li Deshu noticed that Feng Yan hadn't followed. He had no choice but to leave his bicycle and go back to pull her along.

"Don't drag me. Take me back now. I don't want to go with you anymore," Feng Yan protested.

Li Deshu was getting fed up. He hadn't realized during their courtship that Feng Yan could be so difficult.

Their delay allowed Ye Xiaoxiao and the others to catch up with them.

The hired donkey cart dropped them off at the foot of Stone Slope and left. The rest of the journey had to be made on foot.

By the time the three reached Stone Slope, Li Deshu was still struggling with Feng Yan.

Ye Changning teased, "Oh, having a spat?"

Li Deshu managed an awkward smile. "No, we're just messing around."

Ye Changning added, "You two sure know how to have fun. Xiao Xiao, Sheng Ge'er, let's move along and not disturb the lovebirds."

Ye Xiaoxiao and Ye Changsheng stayed quiet. Ye Changning's antics alone made the situation awkward.

Seeing this, Feng Yan stopped arguing with Li Deshu.

However, she wasn't going to White Stone Village quietly. She clung to Li Deshu's neck, insisting he carry her down the slope.

Anyone who has climbed mountains knows that ascending is easier than descending.

The path down Stone Slope was particularly steep. Even walking down required caution.

Li Deshu, not the most physically active, found it even more taxing carrying Feng Yan.

As they descended, Li Deshu's legs gave out, and he tumbled down the slope.

Feng Yan screamed as she rolled down.

"Ah!"

Ye Xiaoxiao and the others heard a sharp scream and turned to see the two had disappeared.

"Damn, did they fall into a ravine?" Ye Changning said, his tone tinged with schadenfreude.

There wasn't a trace of concern in his voice.

"Help! Save us!"

Feng Yan appeared unharmed.

She crawled out of the snowdrift, all dirty, and waved at Ye Xiaoxiao and the others.

"Help us! My... my husband sprained his ankle."

Ye Changning glanced at his younger siblings.

"Let's just bail. This Li Deshu's no saint anyway."

He even set up Ye Changsheng before, and though the Ye family beat him up for it, it wasn't enough to satisfy their anger.

Ye Xiaoxiao was indifferent; after all, she was a doctor, but the other party wasn't her patient yet.

Seeing no movement from them, Feng Yan's pleas for help grew louder.

Ye Changning sighed.

"Running into me is their lucky break; I'm just too soft-hearted."

If they really didn't lend a hand, Li Deshu could very well freeze to death up here in the mountains.

Plus, if word of this got back to the village, it wouldn't look good for the Ye family.

The younger generation couldn't care less, but the old-timers in the family would definitely throw a fit.

"Tsk tsk tsk, looks like we're gonna have to haul him down the mountain. You saw it too, the way down's no walk in the park; if we take a tumble, we're screwed too."

Ye Changning went over to check out Li Deshu's situation.

The guy was clutching his leg, pale as a ghost, moaning in agony.

"Help us out, just get me down the mountain, and I'll make it worth your while."

Li Deshu knew that with anyone else, there might be some wiggle room, but the Ye family had it in for him, and they might just leave him stranded up here.

Ye Changning raised an eyebrow. "I don't come cheap."

Ye Changsheng strolled over too, giving Li Deshu the cold shoulder.

"Changsheng, my bad, I messed up last time. Just help me out and I'll owe you one."

Feng Yan stood there dumbstruck, clearly out of the loop.

Ye Changning held out his hand. "A hundred bucks."

Feng Yan yelled, "A hundred bucks! You might as well just mug us!"

Ye Changning got up, turned to leave. "Alright, we're outta here."

Li Deshu quickly shouted, "I'll pay! I've got some cash on me, but not that much. Take me back to the village first, and I'll get you the rest next time I'm around."

Afraid Ye Changning would really walk away, Li Deshu quickly dug into his pocket for the money.

"Here's sixty bucks, that's all I've got."

Ye Changning took it without a second thought. "Alright then, Deshu, you're too kind. We're neighbors, after all; how could I not lend a hand?"

Li Deshu nearly choked on his own bile.

"That's not the face you were wearing a minute ago."

Ye Changning got Ye Changsheng to help him lift Li Deshu onto his back.

They couldn't help but jostle his leg, making Li Deshu yelp in pain.

"That's not just a sprain, you broke your leg, didn't you?"

Ye Xiaoxiao remarked coolly, "He needs to go to the hospital. Going back to the village won't help."

Feng Yan was too distracted to even curse these opportunists in her mind.

"Then get him to the hospital, quick!"

Ye Changning almost dropped Li Deshu.

"You expect me to haul him to the hospital? Find someone else."

Feng Yan stammered, "You... how can you be so heartless?"

Ye Xiaoxiao: "The hospital's too far, and we can't risk jostling him on the way. You should first go back to the village and find the village doctor to stabilize his leg, then find a vehicle to take him there."

Feng Yan was at a loss, facing this situation for the first time.

She had no choice but to go along with what others suggested.

She pressed Ye Changning to hurry up.

Things would be better once they got to the village. There were many relatives of Li Deshu's family in the village who would help her.

Ye Changning took him to Li Deshu's uncle's place.

Not because this uncle had a good relationship with Li Deshu, but because the uncle's house was close by.

Once they got there, Ye Changning made to leave.

Feng Yan was taken aback, "You're just going to leave like that?"

Ye Changning: "What else? You want to feed us too?"

Feng Yan: "This is outrageous. You took the money and just dumped him here."

Ye Changning: "Look, we were just helping out. Your husband shoved that money at me. Otherwise, not even a thousand yuan would make me carry him.

Getting him back here is more than enough. What more do you want?"

Ye Changning gave a curt nod to the folks inside, "Uncle Li, we're off."

Li Deshu's uncle's place was a madhouse. Hearing this, the uncle came out to thank Ye Changning, promising to return the favor later.

Ye Changning waved it off, "No need. You've got enough on your plate."

Then he made a quick exit with Ye Xiaoxiao and Ye Changsheng.

On their way back, they ran into Zhang Erni.

Zhang Erni: "I heard Li Deshu's back. Did you see him?"

Ye Changning: "Yeah, he broke his leg. He's at his uncle's place."

Zhang Erni: "Really? That's fantastic."

The three of them stared at her, and Zhang Erni quickly backtracked.

"I mean... that's terrible."
