Chapter 359: “Accidental” Miscarriage
by 一盞紅爐Chapter 359: A "Mishap" Leading to Miscarriage
Before long, it was already November, and the weather in Beijing had turned freezing.
Hao Yanyan was now three months pregnant and required routine prenatal visits.
Normally, her mother-in-law would go with her.
The only one with free time at home was Zhao Hongxia.
But this time, Zhao Hongxia had to care for Elder Xu, who was ill, and Xu Jianwen was away on a business trip, so Hao Yanyan had to bring the housekeeper along.
After her last traumatic outing, Hao Yanyan now insisted on having someone accompany her whenever she went out.
Though she didn’t have a professional bodyguard, the housekeeper’s presence eased her nerves.
While Hao Yanyan was in for her exam, the housekeeper waited outside.
After the examination, she sat on a hospital bench, waiting for the housekeeper to pick up the pending results.
She grew restless from sitting too long and stood up to walk around.
Unbeknownst to her, someone was staring fixedly at her.
Han Zhiyin was also at the hospital for a check-up. Ever since her son was imprisoned, she’d declined mentally and physically.
Moreover, He Qiaoxiang’s attitude had left her feeling betrayed and furious.
Running into Hao Yanyan today was unexpected, but her rage had been building to a breaking point.
So when she saw Hao Yanyan standing up and walking alone, she charged at her.
Hao Yanyan let out a cry, collapsing to the ground.
"It's you! You ruined my son!" Han Zhiyin screeched.
"Let go of me… my stomach!" Hao Yanyan curled up on the floor, as fists pounded her stomach.
The commotion sent bystanders rushing over.
Staff jumped in to pull them apart.
The Xu family’s housekeeper had just returned with the test results when she saw Hao Yanyan lying on the ground, blood spreading beneath her.
The housekeeper ran over, panicked, asking what had happened.
The agony knocked her out.
Han Zhiyin was pinned down and arrested.
...
Coming to, Hao Yanyan instinctively reached for her belly.
Her belly, once swollen, had sunk completely—sending a wave of terror through her.
He Qiaoxiang and Zhao Hongxia were both in the ward and turned their attention to her when they saw Hao Yanyan waking up.
"Yan Yan, are you in any pain?"
He Qiaoxiang asked.
Hao Yanyan grabbed He Qiaoxiang's hand. "Mom, where's my baby? How is the baby?"
He Qiaoxiang tried to reassure her, "It’s okay. You’re still young—you can have another child."
Hao Yanyan let go of her hand and collapsed back onto the bed.
Zhao Hongxia was even more devastated. Who would have thought that just coming in for a routine check-up could end like this?
"That Han Zhiyin is Yan Yan’s aunt—her mother’s sister-in-law. What grudge does she have against your family that she’d shove Yan Yan like that?"
Hao Yanyan hadn’t gotten a good look at the person’s face before falling. And while lying on the ground, she could only feel someone punching her abdomen, unable to hear anything around her.
Upon hearing that the one who pushed her was Han Zhiyin, Hao Yanyan lifted her head, eyes burning with hatred.
"It’s her, Mom… She must be arrested. We can’t let her off easily."
Hao Yanyan rasped, half out of her mind, "She did it on purpose. She wanted to hurt me."
Zhao Hongxia had held back at first, mindful of family ties, not wanting to say much in front of He Qiaoxiang. But seeing Hao Yanyan’s reaction, she immediately said, "Don’t worry, Yan Yan. This is intentional harm—there’s no chance she’ll get off easy."
At that moment, the doctor opened the door. "Family of Hao Yanyan, please step outside for a moment."
He Qiaoxiang stood up. "Yan Yan, try to rest. I’ll go see what’s going on."
Seeing He Qiaoxiang leave, Zhao Hongxia sat down beside Hao Yanyan.
Once filled with anticipation for a grandchild, Zhao Hongxia now felt even more crushed than Hao Yanyan.
"Yan Yan, tell me what you’d like to eat. I’ll fix you something nourishing. First, you need to recover."
Hao Yanyan whispered, "Mom… I don’t want anything."
Zhao Hongxia replied, "That won’t do. If you don’t recover well, how will you ever have another child?"
"Patient Hao Yanyan suffered a miscarriage due to abdominal trauma, with damage to the endometrium. Her chances of conceiving again are slim."
He Qiaoxiang had barely stepped into the doctor’s office when she heard this shattering diagnosis.
"Doctor, is there any treatment? How can she face never having children?"
The doctor shook his head. "The odds are just significantly reduced—not zero. However, given the patient’s current condition, even if she does conceive, habitual miscarriages may occur."
He Qiaoxiang’s heart sank.
She begged the doctor, "Please keep this between us. Don’t tell my daughter either—I’m afraid she might do something drastic…"
The doctor nodded. "Unless the patient asks directly, we won’t volunteer it. As for others, aside from immediate family, we keep all patient information strictly confidential."
He Qiaoxiang managed a shaky thanks.
Her reaction was not only to keep Hao Yanyan in the dark, but more importantly, to prevent the Xu family from finding out.
Seeing Zhao Hongxia’s heartbroken expression made it clear how much she had longed for a grandchild.
If Zhao Hongxia learned about Hao Yanyan's current physical condition, she might get the wrong idea.
After returning to the ward, He Qiaoxiang said considerately to Zhao Hongxia,
"I remember you still need to take care of your father-in-law. I can stay here with Yan Yan."
Zhao Hongxia replied, "The old man’s fine—others are looking after him."
He Qiaoxiang persuaded her, "He’d want you there. Yan Yan is young and just needs rest. Once she’s discharged, I’ll take her home to recover."
Zhao Hongxia saw the sense in this. With so many people around, Hao Yanyan wouldn’t be able to rest properly.
Besides, being with her own mother would relax her more.
He Qiaoxiang only had this one daughter, and Zhao Hongxia believed she would take good care of her, so she took her leave.
The Xu family's housekeeper also left, going home to make food to bring later.
She was panicked, afraid the family would blame her. Fortunately, no one brought her up.
Not long after Zhao Hongxia and the housekeeper left, He Wenqiang arrived at the hospital.
"Qiaoxiang, Yan Yan! Zhiyin never meant for this to happen. I apologize on her behalf—please write a letter of forgiveness and let her go."
He Wenqiang’s first words were begging.
Han Zhiyin was still detained at the police station; intentional injury could land her in prison for years.
He couldn’t bear the thought of both his son and wife locked up.
Already, many in the capital looked down on him and criticized him. If this got out, there would be no coming back from this.
Hao Yanyan couldn’t stand the sight of this so-called uncle of hers.
Even during her time with the Ye family, she had never encountered such shameless relatives. Yet He Wenqiang, who acted all high-and-mighty as a city man, was exceptionally despicable.
"Brother, after all this, you’re still defending your wife. Do you even know Yan Yan had a miscarriage?"
He Qiaoxiang shot He Wenqiang a disgusted look.
