Chapter 110: Catching the Perpetrator

At the hospital, Fang Kaixuan's parents were already there.

Two police officers were also there, investigating the incident.

Fang Kaixuan's injuries were not severe, as the assailants were just common troublemakers who had struck out haphazardly, ultimately injuring Fang Kaixuan's thigh.

The police officers asked for details of that night from the victim and then decided to first question the students from Room 208, who had previously clashed with Room 206.

Today, the wounds on He Jing's face looked much better, though the bruises appeared more pronounced.

Wang Jiao and Xia Li were in a similar state; although they had also been badly beaten, their injuries were not severe.

Fang Kaixuan's parents were both in the hospital room.

Wang Jiao and Xia Li didn’t dare go in and stayed in the hallway.

"Sobbing... Officers, you must find those troublemakers; they are too brazen."

Wang Jiao's cries could be heard from a distance.

Ye Xiaoxiao and the others were just coming up the stairs when they heard it.

"Don't worry, we will look into this more thoroughly."

After understanding the situation, the police officers reassured them and prepared to continue their investigation.

After the police officers left, Ye Xiaoxiao and the others went over to see how Wang Jiao and Xia Li were doing.

He Jing: "Did you two stay here all night?"

Wang Jiao's tone was reproachful: "You went back yesterday and didn’t even come to check on us."

Tang Xiuxiu explained: "It was raining, and the counselor told us not to leave. Besides, the counselor did come to see you."

Wang Jiao looked away.

Xia Li: "Then the counselor contacted Fang Kaixuan's parents..."

It was clear that Fang Kaixuan's parents were probably not very friendly towards these two girls who were with their son.

Wang Jiao had been ignored by Fang Kaixuan, and her current attitude was just her being upset and embarrassed.

Ye Xiaoxiao asked: "Is Fang Kaixuan okay? Are you staying here, or should we head back to the dorm?"

Wang Jiao: "I’m heading back to the dorm."

Xia Li: "I’ll go back too."

They got their injuries treated quickly at the hospital.

After staying up all night, they were too exhausted to keep their eyes open.

Ye Xiaoxiao glanced into the hospital room.

"I don’t think Fang Kaixuan’s parents want us visiting."

Just then, a woman in the room walked to the door to close it tightly.

"Sorry, Kaixuan isn’t seeing anyone right now."

Ye Xiaoxiao was speechless.

Fang Kaixuan’s mother slammed the door shut.

Tang Xiuxiu: "Let’s go back to the dorm."

So Ye Xiaoxiao and the others hurried back.

When they returned to the dorm, everyone in room 208 was already gone.

They must’ve been taken in by the police for questioning.

Wang Jiao gave the door of room 208 a hard kick.

Students passing by stopped to stare at her.

"What’s the big deal? Never seen someone this gorgeous?" Wang Jiao snapped.

The students hurried away.

Ye Xiaoxiao opened the dorm door.

"Be careful going out—those attackers might come back."

Xia Li: "Didn’t the police take the neighbors in?"

Ye Xiaoxiao: "Without evidence, they’ll probably be let go soon. Jia Shengnan’s not stupid—she might’ve hired someone else to do it."

Tang Xiuxiu: "Xiao Xiao’s got a point."

They all stormed into the room.

Wang Jiao lay on the bed, wondering if she could retaliate the way Jia Shengnan had.

The police wrapped up their investigation quickly. Since the gang couldn’t be found and there was no direct evidence linking Jia Shengnan to the attack, the people in room 208 were not detained.

But as suspects, everyone in room 208 was confined to campus during the investigation.

When Wang Jiao heard the outcome, she marched over to the next dorm and banged on the door.

Jia Shengnan opened the door, "What… you looking for a fight?"

Wang Jiao fumed, "It was you, wasn’t it? You’re the one who tried to hurt us!"

Jia Shengnan crossed her arms, "Got any proof? Even the cops can’t pin this on me. Keep spreading lies, and I’ll have you arrested too."

Wang Jiao: "Just you wait—I don’t need proof."

Wang Jiao slunk back, defeated.

Xia Li: "Don’t get mad—let’s see if we can find some evidence for the cops."

Wang Jiao: "Easy for you to say—where are we supposed to find anyone?"

Xia Li muttered, "I’m literally lying down here."

Ye Xiaoxiao grabbed her letter and package, ready to send them off to Ye Changning.

Tang Xiuxiu asked, "Xiao Xiao, are you going out?"

Ye Xiaoxiao replied, "I need to go to the post office."

Tang Xiuxiu said, "I'll go with you."

In the dormitory, only the two of them were energetic enough to go out.

The other four were either recovering from a violent incident, busy with classes and part-time work, or still shaken from the day before.

Ye Xiaoxiao gave a nod.

Jinghua University's campus was huge, and it took them half an hour to walk from the medical school to the main gate.

The post office was just a stone's throw from the school entrance.

After Ye Xiaoxiao sent off her package and left the post office, Tang Xiuxiu suddenly grabbed her arm.

"What is it?"

Tang Xiuxiu said, "I want to make a phone call. Come back inside and wait for me a bit."

Once inside, Ye Xiaoxiao asked, "What did you notice?"

Tang Xiuxiu hadn't said anything about making a call earlier.

Tang Xiuxiu pointed through the glass window, "Look at those two guys in the corner."

There were two men in hats, heads down, wearing plain blue jackets.

"Are those two goons?"

Ye Xiaoxiao was stunned that, even with the police investigating, they were still so brazen.

Tang Xiuxiu said, "These local toughs have wide connections and know how to handle the police. Even if they assault someone, they'd only get a few days in jail."

"Then let's call the cops right now and get them arrested."

Tang Xiuxiu said, "I'll head out first, and then you call the cops."

Ye Xiaoxiao said, "Are you nuts? They're here to attack people."

Tang Xiuxiu replied, "But the cops need to catch them in the act."

Ye Xiaoxiao said, "Then I'll go out. I know some pressure points. I might not win, but I can stall them."

Tang Xiuxiu sized Ye Xiaoxiao up.

"Don't be ridiculous. With your delicate frame, going out there would be suicide."

As they argued, someone else walked into the post office.

"What a small world."

Qiao Yunhu came in to make a call and spotted Ye Xiaoxiao right away.

Tang Xiuxiu eyed Qiao Yunhu; he was pretty tall and muscular.

"Someone you know?"

Ye Xiaoxiao nodded.

"What’s going on... are you in trouble?"

Qiao Yunhu stood behind the glass, looking through the small window to spot the two suspicious men across the street.

Ye Xiaoxiao: "It’s a small issue."

Qiao Yunhu had recently heard about the incidents at their dormitory.

"What’s there to think about? Just beat them up and turn them in to the cops. Are you waiting for them to make the first move before calling the police?"

Qiao Yunhu’s voice had a mocking edge.
