    Chapter 306 Getting Married

"Did you go home for the New Year, Fourth Brother? How’s everything at home now?"

Ye Changsheng replied, "Things are good at home. Last time I went back, Dad fixed up the yard again and built a few more rooms. Mom is in the city helping Eldest Brother take care of his kid."

"Eldest Brother took on a mining operation himself, and Sister-in-law enrolled in night school. She attends classes in the evenings—they’re keeping busy."

Ye Xiaoxiao knew she definitely had to go home this year.

There’d been so many changes, and she had no idea about them.

"It’s good Eldest Brother went into business for himself," Ye Xiaoxiao said, though she was a little worried.

But she wasn’t against it. All the other Ye siblings had their own careers, and Ye Changqing, as the eldest, naturally had to find something to do as well.

Otherwise, he’d start feeling left out, and that could lead to problems.

They might not fight, but the Ye family wouldn’t remain as united as they were now.

Ye Changsheng nodded. "Eldest Brother took out a loan and also borrowed some money from Third Brother. Whether he’ll strike anything, though, is still uncertain."

Ye Xiaoxiao said confidently, "It’ll work out for sure. I believe in Eldest Brother."

Ye Changning got back that afternoon. By then, Ye Xiaoxiao and the others had already finished lunch and were sitting in the living room watching TV.

The TV wasn’t huge, but it was color. Ye Xiaoxiao had put on a cartoon.

When Ye Changning came home and saw what his younger siblings were watching, he couldn’t help but laugh. "Aren’t you guys too old for this?"

Ye Xiaoxiao replied, "I haven’t seen this one."

It was an old cartoon—even in her past life, she rarely watched animations.

The children in their family mostly read books, especially medical texts. Their idea of fun was extra classes.

Ye Changning said, "Go ahead and watch. Once it cools off later, I’ll take you all out for a stroll."

Ye Changsheng was in the capital to sightsee.

Wan Baonian figured he’d seen it all.

His roommate’s third brother was indeed a wealthy man—this place was way too fancy.

Ye Changsheng and his classmate rested here, and Ye Xiaoxiao also stayed overnight. The next day, she tagged along with Ye Changsheng and the guys to visit some tourist spots.

Most of these places, she hadn’t been to either, so she made the most of the trip.

    ...

Lu Hanchuan’s marriage paperwork went through. Surprisingly, the first person to find out was his father.

"Why didn’t you talk to the family first?" Lu Xingzhou came straight to the military base to confront his son, his tone accusatory.

Lu Hanchuan glanced at his father. "We’re not signing papers yet."

Lu Xingzhou retorted, "You still should’ve talked to the family. Don’t you need to invite relatives to the wedding?"

Lu Hanchuan thought that made sense.

Such matters were usually handled by his mother, and it was the first time his father had asked about it.

"You can go ahead and notify them now, but we haven’t set a date for the wedding yet—maybe in a month or two."

Lu Xingzhou was more and more sure that his son was unreliable.

"Just inviting our relatives? Don’t we need to invite Xiao Xiao’s parents to discuss things?"

Lu Hanchuan: "I know, I’m working on it."

Lu Xingzhou told him, "Since the marriage application is approved, pick a good date to get registered."

After a pause, he added, "The sooner, the better."

    Lu Hanchuan: "..."

Lu Xingzhou: "And we’ll need to prepare the bride price. I’ll discuss it with your mother when I get back."

The Lu family certainly wouldn’t mistreat their daughter-in-law. Even though the Ye family hadn’t brought it up, they still needed to do things properly.

These were matters for the elders to handle, so Lu Xingzhou assigned his son one task—get registered as soon as possible.

After seeing off his concerned father, Lu Hanchuan took leave from base.

One thing his father said was right—it was better to get registered sooner than later.

When Dr. Ye was at Rende Pharmacy, Lu Hanchuan showed up at her work.

Dressed in his army uniform, handsome and impressive, his presence immediately drew many eyes.

"Are you here for a consultation or to pick up medicine?"

A nurse at the reception desk approached Lu Hanchuan as he looked around.

Lu Hanchuan: "I’m here to see someone. Is Dr. Ye available?"

The nurse, hearing him speak, thought to herself—not only was he good-looking, but his voice was just as gorgeous.

"You’d need an appointment to see Dr. Ye."

These days, Dr. Ye saw patients nonstop.

Moreover, Dr. Ye hadn’t been working full days lately—she only stayed for half a day before leaving.

Lu Hanchuan explained, "I’m not here for a consultation. I’m her fiancé."

"Oh!" The nurse’s eyes widened—Dr. Ye actually had a fiancé? "She’s in Room 203 upstairs."

Lu Hanchuan nodded politely. "Thank you."

    "N-no problem."

Anyone would get flustered when a handsome man spoke to them.

Lu Hanchuan went upstairs, but with patients still there, he waited until they were all done before entering.

Ye Xiaoxiao saw off her last patient of the morning and stretched with a yawn.

Since Ye Changsheng was still in Beijing, she planned to visit him in the afternoon and wasn’t on duty.

Even so, Ye Changning still thought she shouldn’t push herself too hard and should take a couple more days off.

Lu Hanchuan pushed the door open just as Ye Xiaoxiao was stretching her arms.

    “What brings you here?”

Ye Xiaoxiao stared at Lu Hanchuan. Don’t tell me...

    “Did you schedule a visit?”

Lu Hanchuan chuckled. “Dr. Ye, are you really going to examine me?”

Ye Xiaoxiao motioned for him to sit. “Let me check your pulse.”

Lu Hanchuan raised an eyebrow. “You’re kidding, right?”

Ye Xiaoxiao: “You came to see me? Isn’t it because you’re feeling unwell?”

As she spoke, she had already placed her hand on Lu Hanchuan’s arm.

Last time, Lu Hanchuan had been injured—though it was just a minor wound—but she figured she’d check on him.

Ye Xiaoxiao carefully checked him over and had to admit that he was in excellent health, even better than her.

    “You seem... fine.”

    Ye Xiaoxiao withdrew her hand.

Lu Hanchuan: “I get a yearly checkup. I’m in great shape.”

Ye Xiaoxiao scoffed. “Funny, I seem to recall someone getting hurt last time.”

    “…”

Even the healthiest people get hurt sometimes.

But Lu Hanchuan kept that thought to himself. He had come today to register their marriage with his wife, not to argue.

Lu Hanchuan handed the marriage approval paperwork to Ye Xiaoxiao.

After reading it, she realized why he was here.

“So, should we go register our marriage now?”

Ye Xiaoxiao stood up. “I should go home and change.”

Lu Hanchuan couldn’t help but laugh. “No hurry, we’ve got all day. Shouldn’t we pick a good day?”

Ye Xiaoxiao shot back, “As long as I’m with you, every day is a good day.”

Lu Hanchuan even asked if she wanted to go to a professional makeup artist.

After all, they’d need to look their best for the marriage license photo.

Then Ye Xiaoxiao thought of the currently trendy bridal makeup with red floral accents.

She insisted that she could do her own makeup.

Lu Hanchuan was wearing his military uniform and didn’t need to change, while Ye Xiaoxiao went home, put on a red dress, and applied some light makeup.

She already had good natural coloring, and the makeup only made her look even more radiant.

Even with such simple styling, it was enough to impress Lu Hanchuan.

"Do I look good?" Ye Xiaoxiao asked playfully.

    "Beautiful," he replied.
