Chapter 312: Wedding House
by 一盞紅爐Chapter 312 The Newlyweds' Home
"Ye Xiaoxiao, long time no see."
Xu Jianwen stepped forward to greet her.
When he first saw Xiao Xiao, his eyes lit up with admiration.
It had been years, and she’d grown even more beautiful.
Manager Ma, noticing they knew each other, said, "So Reporter Xu knows our Dr. Ye? That’s great. Dr. Ye is an excellent traditional Chinese medicine doctor at Rende Pharmacy. You can ask her anything."
Xu Jianwen nodded. Although he had hoped to interview Mr. Song Guangjing, Ye Xiaoxiao was also a good alternative.
A young and beautiful TCM doctor would draw plenty of attention.
Moreover, Mr. Song Guangjing had flat-out refused the interview.
Xiao Xiao nodded politely at Xu Jianwen. "Long time no see."
And truthfully, she’d rather not see him again.
Xu Jianwen seemed much more mature now, no longer as arrogant as before.
But he wasn’t as magnetic as before.
Maybe marriage had changed him.
"Mind doing an interview?"
"I’m still new here. If you’re conducting interviews, I can recommend some experts from the hospital."
Xu Jianwen didn’t know about Xiao Xiao’s connection to Rende Pharmacy and assumed she’d just started working there after school.
"We’ll mostly interview the experts, and you can chime in."
That was acceptable. To help Rende Pharmacy, she agreed.
Xu Jianwen got his crew ready.
To keep the hospital running smoothly, they scheduled it for lunch.
Xiao Xiao asked Manager Ma to arrange for a few experts to answer the reporter’s questions.
Manager Ma said, "You’re not joining in?"
Someone as photogenic as you should be on camera!"
Xiao Xiao shook her head. "Even if I were to participate, it wouldn’t be now. If people saw my photo, they wouldn’t think about how skilled TCM is—they’d get distracted."
She might even end up as tabloid bait simply for being a beautiful woman.
That’s why Xiao Xiao had said no to photos earlier.
As for how the reporters would frame the story, she had no idea.
Once the interview wrapped up, the others cleared out.
Only Xu Jianwen stuck around.
"Do you have something else?"
Ye Xiaoxiao looked at Xu Jianwen's hesitant expression and asked.
Xu Jianwen: "Do you have time to get lunch or dinner together?"
Ye Xiaoxiao declined, "Maybe another time. I still have work in the afternoon. If it’s about eating, you know I’m getting married soon, right? You’re welcome to attend my wedding—we’ll have a great meal then."
Liking Xu Jianwen was the original owner’s thing. Ye Xiaoxiao felt nothing for him, so she felt completely indifferent.
Xu Jianwen looked at her calm expression, unsure of what to feel.
"Are you really sure? Marriage isn’t something to joke about."
Ye Xiaoxiao: "Of course. We’ve already registered."
Xu Jianwen: "..."
"See you. I’m heading back to work—no need to see me out."
Ye Xiaoxiao walked away without looking back.
...
By the end of August, Ye Xiaoxiao’s courtyard house was finally completed.
The interior decoration was nearly done, and most of the furniture had been custom-made—just waiting on appliances now.
The interior design company had been set up by Han Xing.
Now that the renovation was finished, the first guest to visit the courtyard was none other than Han Xing himself.
"So? Satisfied?" he said.
Han Xing looked like he was waiting for praise.
"Looks great," Ye Xiaoxiao said. "Thanks for your help." It had been a while since Ye Xiaoxiao last saw Han Xing, and he was as cheerful as ever.
Han Xing: "No trouble at all. Just wanted to finish quickly so you two can get married. Speaking of which, what’s up with Brother Lu? Why is the home for your marriage bought by you?"
Han Xing thought Lu Hanchuan was totally out of line.
How could someone like him even get married? Truly unfair.
Ye Xiaoxiao simply said, "I picked the place, so of course I bought it. And I didn’t even run it by Lu Hanchuan beforehand."
Han Xing gave her a thumbs-up. "Still calling the shots, I see. Anyone else wouldn’t dare treat Brother Lu like this."
"What about you? I remember your family’s been on your case about settling down. Any luck yet?"
Ye Xiaoxiao noticed Han Xing hadn’t changed much, which probably meant he was still single.
Han Xing shrugged helplessly. "It’s not that easy. No such luck. The ones who like me, I don’t like. The ones I like, aren’t interested."
Ye Xiaoxiao smiled. "So you do have someone you like."
Han Xing gave a gloomy nod.
If Lu Hanchuan had asked, he would’ve kept it to himself. But Ye Xiaoxiao’s warm smile made it easy to open up.
"Still working on it."
Ye Xiaoxiao raised an eyebrow, "Well, keep at it then."
Han Xing really wanted to ask how Brother Lu had landed Ye Xiaoxiao.
But upon second thought, it was pointless—Lu Hanchuan's face isn't exactly common.
"Do you need help with any household stuff?"
Ye Xiaoxiao: "No need, I've got it covered."
Han Xing: "Alright then, just let me know if you need anything."
Ye Xiaoxiao wanted to invite him for a meal, but Han Xing had other matters and left first.
Ye Xiaoxiao decided to scope out the place before heading out to buy the appliances.
……
"Xiao Xiao, are you planning to buy appliances for the new house? Mom can go with you to pick them out."
The call was from Yun Chengxiu, who had likely heard about Ye Xiaoxiao setting up the new place.
"Sure, Mom. Why don’t you come take a look at the courtyard first, and then we can go shopping for furniture together?"
"Alright, I’ll come pick you up soon."
Yun Chengxiu brought a driver to pick up Xiao Xiao and also took the opportunity to visit the small courtyard.
She had long heard about Xiao Xiao building a house here. Upon arrival, she didn’t even need to search—it stuck out like a sore thumb among the many old houses.
The newly built style was a modern traditional Chinese-style courtyard, though the materials were much newer than those of the older houses.
When they stepped inside, the courtyard was spacious.
Ye Xiaoxiao happened to be inside taking measurements when she heard the commotion and came running out.
"Mom."
"Xiao Xiao, this courtyard is really nice. What’s the empty space for?"
"I want to build a greenhouse to grow flowers and herbal medicines."
Yun Chengxiu: "That’s great. You young people always come up with good ideas."
She then checked out the inside and noticed all the furniture was already set up.
"You’ve already decorated everything here by yourself. We didn’t even get to pitch in."
Ye Xiaoxiao: "Lu Hanchuan helped me line up the contractors."
Yun Chengxiu: "That's his job. You’re already busy with work—how could you have time to oversee this?
The neighborhood's nice. Though the houses are old, they’re all old-school Beijingers. It’s close to your master and Rende Pharmacy, and having your own courtyard is much better than an apartment."
Ye Xiaoxiao looped her arm through Yun Chengxiu's, "That’s exactly what I thought."
Yun Chengxiu took Ye Xiaoxiao straight to Beijing’s largest department store, ready to buy out the entire appliance section for Xiao Xiao’s home.
Ye Xiaoxiao: "Mom, wait, we don’t need all this."
Yun Chengxiu: "You've gotta have at least a fridge, TV, and washing machine. With your schedules, who has time to hand-wash clothes?"
