Chapter 192: On the Road to the Exam

Ye Xiaoxiao stood there, at a loss for words for a moment, then left the two pretty sick people behind in her thoughts and headed to the restroom to find Bai Mengan.

When the two returned to the private room, Bai Mengan was still bothering Ye Xiaoxiao, asking where those two people had gone.

Ye Xiaoxiao simply said, "They went to the hospital for a check-up," and shut down the chatty Bai Mengan.

Lin Zhilu turned to the two older sisters, "You two were in the restroom forever."

Bai Mengan: "Can you be a little more polite?"

Lin Zhilu: "The restroom is already polite enough, okay!"

Su Tong also asked, "You two were gone for quite a while."

Bai Mengan waved her hand, "Don't mention it, we ran into a couple of jerks."

At her words, even the others who were chatting about gossip fell silent and looked over.

Bai Mengan immediately gave a colorful account of what had just happened at the entrance, and after finishing, she asked Ye Xiaoxiao, "Do you have anything to add?"

Ye Xiaoxiao: "No, even a journalist couldn't sum it up as well as you."

Bai Mengan touched her head, "Really? Thanks for the compliment."

She really started to bask in the praise.

Ye Xiaoxiao's side wrapped up the gathering on a happy note, agreeing to get together again sometime, but the atmosphere next door was not so relaxed.

During the meal, two people disappeared, inevitably making the rest feel that Xu Jianwen was sulking.

"Could Jianwen really be mad at us over just a few words?"

"Is it really that big a deal? He's getting more and more stingy."

Deng Xuefeng also felt that the meal was ruined and stood up directly, "Pay the bill and leave, go have some fun somewhere else."

    The others also got up.

Then, as soon as they opened the door, they ran into the people from the next room.

"Hey, I was wondering where Jianwen went during the meal, he didn't sneak off to your place, did he?"

    Someone said with a laugh.

Although they were all kids from the same compound, their social circles were clearly separate, and Bai Mengan didn't really mix with them.

And Xu Jianwen's buddies treated Ye Xiaoxiao just like before.

But Ye Xiaoxiao was not the original host, and upon hearing this, she just coldly said, "We've got white wine and beer here, no green tea or crazy people."

The person who had just spoken frowned, "What crazy people?"

Bai Mengan was not so polite, "This is a welcome party, not a dump. If you're looking for trash, go to the landfill."

The other person understood what was said.

"If he's not here, then he's not here. No need to insult anyone," the man who was snapped back at turned pale.

"If this is considered an insult, then saying Xu Jianwen is with us would be the real insult."

    "You!"

Deng Xuefeng intervened, stopping the person who had just spoken. "It's a misunderstanding, don't be so angry."

He then turned to Ye Xiaoxiao, "Xiao Xiao, did you really not see Jianwen?"

Ye Xiaoxiao: "He probably followed my advice and went to the hospital to have his eyes checked. He used to have bad taste, and now it seems his eyesight is failing too."

As soon as Ye Xiaoxiao spoke, everyone except Deng Xuefeng looked at her strangely.

She really doesn't care for Xu Jianwen anymore, speaking so bluntly.

You see, in the past, because of her affection for Xu Jianwen, Ye Xiaoxiao was very respectful and eager to please his friends.

Whenever they met, she would immediately latch onto them and ask about Xu Jianwen.

Now she's so composed, even reluctant to mention Xu Jianwen's name, which means she's truly moved on.

The evidence is right there, making it hard to doubt.

Deng Xuefeng, however, was already aware of Ye Xiaoxiao's change. He smiled and said, "So he went to the hospital. It seems we misunderstood."

"Why would he go to the hospital? Let's go check it out."

The guys who were feeling uneasy earlier, upon hearing that Xu Jianwen had gone to the hospital, immediately grew concerned.

They left in small groups, intending to go see Xu Jianwen.

Ye Xiaoxiao considered Hao Yanyan's injury, figuring that by the time they got to the hospital, the minor bruise would have faded.

Deng Xuefeng bid farewell to Ye Xiaoxiao and left as well.

Bai Mengan specifically warned, "This Deng Xuefeng is no good. Stay away from him."

Ye Xiaoxiao: Sis, wake up. We're the bad guys here.

Ye Xiaoxiao, holding the script, was full of thoughts but had no one to share them with.

"Let's go, hang out at my place a bit longer, sober up, and then I'll take you home."

Bai Mengan slung her arm around Ye Xiaoxiao's shoulder and headed downstairs.

Aside from running into two people she didn't want to see midway through, the dinner was perfect.

    ...

The following day was Ye Xiaoxiao's exam day.

Before she left, Lu Hanchuan called.

"I can't go with you, so be careful during the exam."

Ye Xiaoxiao: "Don't worry, I drive like a pro."

Driving well didn't help, as Ye Xiaoxiao collided with another car during the test.

Ye Xiaoxiao aced the written test in the morning, and in the afternoon, she had the road test.

There were hardly any cars around, and the test route was chosen in a very remote area, so cars rarely passed by.

But accidents can happen out of nowhere.

A car that came out of nowhere smashed right into Ye Xiaoxiao's car due to improper overtaking.

The examiner in the passenger seat was shocked.

He had Ye Xiaoxiao step out of the car first, then got out to talk to the other driver.

It was a Volga sedan, and a woman around thirty years old got out, her tone less than friendly.

"Do you even know how to drive? You're crawling like a snail."

"Ma'am, this is a test route, and this is a student driver's car. Moreover, it's entirely your fault."

The examiner stepped out to explain the situation and radioed the traffic police at the intersection.

The woman glanced at the car, then at the examiner, and resigned herself to her bad luck.

"I didn't know this was a test route. How much do I owe? Just say it."

People who drive imported cars aren't short on cash.

The examiner called the cops to deal with the accident and then told Ye Xiaoxiao to wait aside.

"Hang on, we'll switch cars and give it another go."

The examiner said to Ye Xiaoxiao.

Ye Xiaoxiao, who had been looking downcast, perked up at this.

    "Okay!"

She could retake the test, so she cheered up.

Ye Xiaoxiao stood by, watching the examiner deal with things, occasionally glancing at the woman who was paying.

The woman was bundled up in long sleeves despite the summer heat, and there were several large white patches on her exposed hands.

    It looked like vitiligo.

When the woman was about to leave, Ye Xiaoxiao reminded her.

"Madam, have you been feeling depressed, irritable, having insomnia, and experiencing light menstrual periods recently?"

The woman then looked at Ye Xiaoxiao, "How do you know?"

Ye Xiaoxiao: "Your skin condition is likely caused by liver stagnation and qi stagnation, as well as blood deficiency and wind dryness."

The woman stood by the roadside, no longer in a hurry to leave.

"Young girl, which hospital are you from? You seem quite skilled."

Ye Xiaoxiao: "I am Ye Xiaoxiao, an intern at Rende Pharmacy. If you have time, you can come to Rende Pharmacy for a consultation."

The woman, who had been troubled by her skin problems for a long time, unexpectedly found hope again because of a traffic accident.
