Ye Xiaoxiao was relying on Lu Hanchuan to help her identify people, so naturally, she had no objection to his words.

But Lu Hanchuan didn’t think the same way; he saw it as a sign their relationship was progressing.

After hanging up the phone, Lu Hanchuan finished his military duties and took some time to return to the family estate.

His parents were busy, so only Grandpa Lu and Grandma Lu were at home.

Although they had retired, their status was still firmly established, and the state regularly sent people to take care of them. The elderly couple lived a leisurely and comfortable life.

"What brings you back today?" Grandpa Lu was in the yard playing with his birds and only gave his grandson a sideways glance.

"I’m here for a reason. Are my parents not home?" Lu Hanchuan walked over to his grandfather.

Lu Guofeng answered coolly, "No."

Inside, Grandma Lu heard the commotion and called out to Lu Hanchuan, "Xiao Chuan, you’re back. Why aren’t you coming inside?"

Lu Guofeng started his usual marriage talk, "You keep coming back alone. It’s getting on my nerves."

Cheng Yan stood up for her grandson, "Our Xiao Chuan doesn’t come back often. Keep it up, and I’ll get mad."

Grandpa Lu was the head of the family and wasn’t afraid of anyone, but he was a bit henpecked.

Cheng Yan had been a cultural soldier in her youth, lively in character, and even in her old age, she remained a lovely old lady.

Hearing his wife’s words, Lu Guofeng stopped talking, muttering to the birds, "You’re always spoiling him. I doubt I’ll live to see a great-grandson. I think the girl from the Cheng family is quite nice, but he’s still not interested."

Cheng Yan stood at the door, "You old fuddy-duddy, this is the kids’ business. Why are you so anxious? Ever heard of free love?"

Lu Hanchuan walked up and supported his grandmother, smiling, "Grandma’s got a point, but Grandpa, you don’t need to worry about me. I already have a girlfriend."

At this, both elders looked over.

Lu Guofeng stopped fussing with the birds and walked to the door to get a clear answer.

Cheng Yan pulled her grandson inside, "Whose daughter is she? Why haven’t you mentioned her before? You’re not pulling our leg, are you?"

Though she asked, Cheng Yan knew it must be true.

Her grandson was stubborn; if it weren’t true, he wouldn’t bother lying.

Like that girl from the Cheng family, she’d been after him for ages, but he still hadn’t been caught.

Lu Hanchuan wasn’t one to save face.

Lu Guofeng asked, "Whose girl is it? Are you keeping it quiet because she’s not into you?"

Cheng Yan pulled him, "Enough already."

Lu Hanchuan: "..."

"Grandpa and Grandma probably know her. She’s the child who was accidentally switched between the Hao and Ye families."

Cheng Yan frowned. As someone who often mingled in the family estate’s grandmother circles, she had naturally heard these rumors.

"Which one are you talking about? The one who came back or the one who left?"

Lu Hanchuan: "The one who left, her name is Ye Xiaoxiao."

This was the talk of the military compound.

Even Lu Guofeng caught wind of it, and he asked with suspicion, "Isn’t she the future daughter-in-law of the Xu family?"

Lu Hanchuan raised his eyelids, his expression sharp, "She used to be, but not anymore."

Lu Guofeng looked around, trying to find something handy to give this brat a couple of whacks.

"You’re asking for trouble. Did you go and poach someone else’s girl?"

Cheng Yan intervened, "I’ve seen her before—she’s stunning and has a great presence."

Cheng Yan had only seen Ye Xiaoxiao from afar before, not knowing her personality, but her appearance was striking and unforgettable.

Lu Guofeng gave her a skeptical look.

Cheng Yan then said, "Besides, isn’t the Hao family setting up their new daughter with the Xu family? I think the past is in the past, and if Xiao Chuan likes her, there’s no harm in them being together."

Lu Hanchuan: "If Grandma says it’s okay, then you’ve got to have my back when I bring her home."

Word travels fast around here, and Ye Xiaoxiao’s identity is complicated. He didn’t want anyone to say anything unpleasant.

Cheng Yan patted her chest and assured, "She’s one of us now, and I’ll make sure no one messes with our family."

Lu Guofeng cleared his throat, making sure he was heard.

"So, when are you bringing her around?"

Lu Guofeng had five sons, four of whom died on the battlefield. By Lu Hanchuan’s generation, he was the only grandson left.

It wasn’t so much about the old man pushing for marriage as it was about his own fears.

As he got older, he just wanted to see the family grow.

Cheng Yan: "I remember she’s still pretty young."

Lu Hanchuan: "She just started college."

Cheng Yan: "Really? Which university?"

Lu Hanchuan: "Jinghua University."

Cheng Yan clapped her hands exaggeratedly: "Wow, she’s really smart! Jinghua University is no joke. I’ve always admired people with brains."

Lu Guofeng watched the two of them banter and subtly reminded, "Ahem."

Cheng Yan: "What’s with the cough? I’m just being honest."

Lu Guofeng: "Being young isn’t a problem—you kids just need to figure each other out. Don’t pull a Liang Chengxu, bringing home a different girl every week. He’s going to be the death of old Liang."

The old man was talking about Liang Chengxu, Lu Hanchuan’s childhood friend, a real charmer and a total ladies’ man.

Even though he couldn’t settle down, he was a loyal friend and got along great with Lu Hanchuan.

Cheng Yan: "You’ve made your point. But since our Xiao Chuan has a girlfriend, next time the Cheng girl’s around, mind your manners."

Lu Guofeng: "That's natural. Remember to make it clear to her, and don't keep the girl waiting."

Cheng Yan glared at the old man with a look of annoyance.

Wasn't it you who usually welcomed her warmly? Now you're changing your attitude so quickly, leaving me to take the blame.

Cheng Yan pulled Lu Hanchuan aside and secretly gave him some money. "When you're in a relationship, treat her well. Don't be stingy."

Lu Hanchuan was both amused and frustrated. "Grandma, I have money."

Cheng Yan: "I know, but this is my way of showing I care."

Lu Hanchuan had no choice but to accept the roll of money from the old lady. "Then I'll thank Xiao Xiao for you."

The old lady patted Lu Hanchuan on the back. "Did you come all the way home specifically to talk about this?"

Lu Hanchuan: "I just wanted to give the family a heads-up, so I don't have to face the cold shoulder every time I come home."

Lu Guofeng glared at him. "No respect for your elders. Who do you think I've been busting my back for?"

Lu Hanchuan wasn't home to argue. "It's for me, so you can stop worrying now."

Lu Guofeng clasped his hands behind his back. "We'll talk more when you tie the knot."

Though the old man was proud, he felt a sense of relief.

It meant his grandson was still in good health, just a little choosy.
