Chapter 161 Public Display of Affection
by 一盞紅爐Chapter 161 Public Display of Affection
Ye Xiaoxiao hadn’t even reached the bottom of the stairs when she attracted a lot of attention along the way.
Most of the girls in the dormitory dressed modestly, and it was rare to see such a fashionable lady, so many people secretly observed her.
After Ye Xiaoxiao went downstairs, she directly found Lu Hanchuan.
Lu Hanchuan looked at his girlfriend, "You look stunning today, Xiao Xiao."
Ye Xiaoxiao: "Aren’t I beautiful every day?"
Lu Hanchuan curled his lips, "You’re always beautiful, but I don’t get to see you every day."
"You’re such a sweet talker."
Lu Hanchuan put his arm around Ye Xiaoxiao's shoulder and took her away, "You haven’t eaten since class, have you? We’re not in a rush. Let’s grab a bite first."
The banquet was bustling, and when everyone arrived, it was mostly just to show up and have a good time. It was hard to say if they’d even get a proper meal, and he couldn’t bear to let Xiao Xiao go hungry.
Ye Xiaoxiao looked up, "Isn’t the whole point of going to Old Mr. Han’s birthday to eat?"
Lu Hanchuan: "Let’s grab a snack first, or we might end up waiting forever."
Lu Hanchuan wasn’t in any rush. He took Ye Xiaoxiao out for a meal and then headed to the Beijing Hotel with the gifts.
Old Mr. Han’s sixtieth birthday was held on the third floor of the Beijing Hotel. Originally, the old man was very low-key, but the younger generation in the family wanted to organize this birthday for him.
It was also his sixtieth birthday, so it was a big deal.
Mr. Han let the children go their way.
In fact, he was happy just to see his own younger generations; others might not be as eager to meet them.
When Lu Hanchuan went to park the car, the restaurant's parking lot was already filled with many vehicles, most of which were Jeeps.
Ye Xiaoxiao glanced around and thought that even on the streets of the capital, one probably wouldn't see so many at once. Mr. Han's status was indeed special.
"Will Grandpa and Grandma come?" Ye Xiaoxiao asked.
"After the gathering here disperses, they will visit the Han family for a while, but they won't come here because it's too crowded."
Lu Hanchuan's parents wouldn't be coming either, so he had to bring heavy gifts as a junior member of the family.
Ye Xiaoxiao nodded, "Then let's go in."
At the entrance, there were naturally people arranged by the Han family to guide them.
Lu Hanchuan handed the gift in his hand to the registrar and led Ye Xiaoxiao inside.
The banquet hall was already bustling with people.
Ye Xiaoxiao looked surprised upon entering. Was this the glamorous scene of the 1980s?
She had thought it would just be a slightly more luxurious restaurant.
A place where everyone gathered around a table to eat.
But it turned out to be a buffet-style banquet hall, filled with champagne and red wine, exuding an air of opulence.
Ye Xiaoxiao quickly composed herself after a brief moment of surprise.
She was no stranger to high-profile events and knew how to keep her cool.
Han Xing and some of Lu Hanchuan's friends had been waiting for him.
The moment Lu Hanchuan walked in, Han Xing stepped forward to greet him.
He was eager to meet this sister-in-law and get on her good side early.
Then he spotted Ye Xiaoxiao holding hands with Lu Hanchuan.
Ye Xiaoxiao looked stunning today, and paired with Lu Hanchuan, they were the picture-perfect couple, turning heads as they entered the banquet hall.
Han Xing’s eyes nearly popped out of his head!
"You two! Seriously?"
"Xiao Xiao’s my sister-in-law? Since when?"
Ye Xiaoxiao smiled apologetically, "Sorry, I forgot to mention it last time."
Han Xing cringed, recalling what he’d said and the embarrassing things he’d done the last time he saw Ye Xiaoxiao.
He felt like the ground had just dropped out from under him.
He shot Lu Hanchuan a glare, muttering through clenched teeth, "No wonder you were being so nice."
Figures.
Looking back, all the signs were there.
Lu Hanchuan had given her his number right off the bat—clearly, he’d had his sights set on her from the beginning.
What a sly fox.
Ignoring Han Xing’s glare, Lu Hanchuan said, "Where’s Grandpa Han? I should pay my respects first."
Han Xing bit his tongue and led Lu Hanchuan to his grandfather.
Old Mr. Han, dressed in a sharp dark blue Zhongshan suit, was surrounded by a crowd, looking as lively as ever.
"Xiao Chuan, it’s been too long."
Old Mr. Han was quite fond of Lu Hanchuan.
He considered the young man far more impressive than his own disappointing grandson.
Though Han Xing was a big shot in his own right, he held little sway with his grandfather, especially after rejecting the path Old Mr. Han had set for him—a decision that had left the old man fuming for ages.
"I’ve been tied up with army duties and haven’t had much time to visit. How’ve you been, Grandpa Han?"
Old Mr. Han chuckled, "Never better."
Lu Hanchuan introduced Ye Xiaoxiao, "Grandpa, this is my girlfriend, Xiao Xiao."
Ye Xiaoxiao greeted him sweetly, "Hello, Grandpa."
Han Xing felt like he was walking into a trap.
Sure enough, his grandfather was clearly interested, "Xiao Chuan has a girlfriend now, good, good, she's a good kid. Unlike our Han Xing, who still doesn't have a wife. I wonder when I’ll get to hold my great-grandchild."
Han Xing immediately stepped forward and said, "Grandpa, why the hurry? I’ll make sure you get to hold one."
Old Mr. Han glared at him, "Then bring your girlfriend home this year."
Han Xing fell silent.
Lu Hanchuan chatted with the old man for a few more moments before stepping back.
After all, there were too many people wanting to greet the old man today. If everyone chatted for even a few minutes, the old man wouldn’t have the stamina.
Lu Hanchuan took Ye Xiaoxiao to the rest area.
Han Xing couldn’t contain himself anymore, "What’s going on with you two? You’re not pulling my leg, are you?"
Han Xing was sure that Lu Hanchuan hadn't met Ye Xiaoxiao before they went to Songlin Town. If he had been interested in her earlier, wouldn't Ye Xiaoxiao have stayed with Xu Jianwen?
If Lu Hanchuan had even hinted at his feelings, the Hao family would have jumped at the chance to send her over.
Lu Hanchuan gave him a sideways glance, "Pulling your leg?"
The tone was light, but Han Xing could sense the underlying meaning.
Using a relationship to pull your leg? You’re not that big of a deal.
Han Xing: "Alright, alright, you’re the real deal, and I’m just a fake brother, right?"
Lu Hanchuan didn’t know what Han Xing was on about and ignored him.
Ye Xiaoxiao also blinked innocently.
She hadn’t kept it from Han Xing; she just hadn’t found the right moment to tell him.
Han Xing led Lu Hanchuan to the sofa in the rest area.
Although it was an open area, this spot was clearly undisturbed.
The sofas were arranged in a circle, and sitting inside were six or seven men, all childhood friends of Lu Hanchuan and also top dogs in the Beijing social scene.
As Lu Hanchuan approached, they all looked over.
Lu Hanchuan sat down with Ye Xiaoxiao by his side.
The man across from him put out his cigarette and smiled at Lu Hanchuan, "It’s a rare sight, Hanchuan. Aren’t you going to introduce us?"
"Ye Xiaoxiao, my girlfriend."
Then he introduced the people across to Ye Xiaoxiao one by one.
"Liang Chengxu, Jiang Yi, Xu Linfeng, Qi Zheng..."
Lu Hanchuan introduced them all, but because there were so many, she hadn’t yet put all the names to the faces.
Ye Xiaoxiao smiled slightly, not at all intimidated, "Hello, everyone."
