"Let me measure the space to see if this fridge fits in my kitchen, along with the TV. I didn’t design the living room to be very big."

While the appliances were being moved, Ye Xiaoxiao remembered she needed to return to Rende Pharmacy.

"Mom, wait for me a moment. I prepared some herbal tonic for Grandpa and Grandma—I’ll bring it along."

Yun Chengxiu replied, "Sure, no hurry. Should the driver take you there?"

Yun Chengxiu then directed the workers to arrange the appliances and took her time walking around the courtyard.

"This courtyard is great for retirement living," she remarked.

After the movers left, Yun Chengxiu waited a while longer, but when Ye Xiaoxiao still hadn’t returned, she said,

"Xiao Li, lock up. Let’s go to Rende Pharmacy to pick up Xiao Xiao."

Xiao Li replied, "Yes, Minister."

Driver Xiao Li locked up—the keys were left on the windowsill by Ye Xiaoxiao, which Xiao Li handed to Yun Chengxiu.

Meanwhile, Ye Xiaoxiao went to Rende Pharmacy to fill a prescription but encountered a troublesome customer.

By the time she finished up, twenty minutes had passed. She quickly wrapped up her tasks, gathered her things, and headed downstairs.

Ye Xiaoxiao was carrying the medicine and hung it from the bicycle handlebars.

She was just about to leave when Zhang Kaining suddenly shouted to her from the hospital entrance.

"Xiao Xiao, don’t leave yet. Come here, I've got something to tell you."

Ye Xiaoxiao had to park her bicycle and walk toward Zhang Kaining. "What is it?"

Zhang Kaining had been smiling, but his expression suddenly changed.

Jesus! Just as Ye Xiaoxiao had taken two steps, a runaway tractor came barreling down the street opposite Rende Pharmacy.

The tractor plowed right over the bicycle. If she hadn’t walked those few steps just now, Ye Xiaoxiao would’ve been hit.

But when she turned around, she saw the tractor backing up and crushing the bicycle again.

"Is this guy blind or drunk?!"

Ye Xiaoxiao could feel Yun Chengxiu’s hands trembling. "Maybe you should go inside Rende Pharmacy and sit down for a while?"

But Yun Chengxiu insisted, "I'm not going anywhere yet. Let’s see who the tractor driver is!"

Xiao Li was already hauling the driver out of the tractor.

"Minister, he's clearly drunk. Want me to take him down to the station?"

Drunk drivers like this are a menace, and crossing paths with him was pure bad luck. The most they could do was throw him in jail.

If Ye Xiaoxiao had really been hurt today, it would’ve only been the driver who paid the price.

But the fallout would’ve been too much for both the Lu family and the Ye family to handle.

Ye Xiaoxiao looked up at the tractor driver—he was out of it, messy—long hair, scraggly beard, obviously drunk or high.

"I think he looks familiar."

"He's someone from our village. There was some bad blood with our family way back, but that was ages ago, and everyone let it go.

Why would he suddenly show up and even find me?"

Yun Chengxiu’s expression turned serious. "Xiao Xiao, we gotta dig into this guy’s background. What he did wasn’t random, and the fact that he found you so precisely means he must’ve been staking you out for days."

Ye Xiaoxiao also found the situation strange.

And it was definitely targeted at her.

Yun Chengxiu was no longer trembling, coolly telling Xiao Li to haul him downtown to the police.

"Xiao Li, get the cops to file a report first. This matter must be clarified—whether he’s working alone or has backup."

Having worked in the system for so long, Yun Chengxiu had good instincts.

This drunkard was skinny as a rail, and Xiao Xiao had just mentioned not seeing him for years.
