Chapter 223: Saving Someone
by 一盞紅爐Chapter 223: Saving Someone
The two immediately grappled in a messy fight, neither giving an inch.
Aside from onlookers, others tried to pull them apart, making the spot the center of attention for the entire venue.
Even Ye Xiaoxiao looked their way.
"Who's fighting?!"
Causing trouble at someone else's wedding would offend multiple families—no one would be so foolish.
Huang Zhi pinned Xu Jianli beneath him, gripping his throat. "You’ve lost your damn mind! Even your brother wouldn’t dare fight me."
Xu Jianli stared defiantly, his breathing growing increasingly labored.
Huang Zhi had spent the past two years away because he landed in hot water over fights—but he clearly hadn’t learned a thing and remained just as arrogant.
Deng Xuefeng and others quickly stepped in to break up the fight.
Deng Xuefeng pried Huang Zhi’s hands away. "Cut the crazy act! Why stir up shit here?"
With so many elders present, even the big-shot kids from powerful families didn’t push their luck.
Huang Zhi chilled out a little. His earlier outburst had been out of sheer rage, not an actual desire to cause trouble.
He released Xu Jianli, but the latter wheezed frantically, as if struggling to breathe.
Huang Zhi’s expression changed.
Deng Xuefeng panicked. "Jianli! Jianli! Do you have your medicine?"
"Shit… We gotta get him to a hospital!"
Moving someone with a bad asthma attack was risky.
The commotion had everyone staring.
Zhao Hongxia rushed over. "Jianli! What’s wrong?!"
She usually reminded Xu Jianli to carry his medicine, but swamped with wedding prep since morning, she had completely forgotten. Now, she was completely at a loss.
When Ye Xiaoxiao and Lu Hanchuan arrived, all they saw was chaos.
The crowd was packed tight, making it hard to push through.
Ye Xiaoxiao patted herself down—in formal wear, she wasn’t carrying any meds.
But Lu Hanchuan’s car held her small medical kit since she still had to go to Haihe Garden after the banquet.
Ye Xiaoxiao said, "Back up, people. No one can breathe."
With no one taking charge, her order got people moving.
Aside from Xu Jianwen’s family, only Huang Zhi, the guy who started it, stood rooted.
When he saw Ye Xiaoxiao approach, he snapped, "The hell do you think you are—"
Before he could finish his sentence, he was yanked aside and dumped unceremoniously.
Lu Hanchuan said coldly, "Stay out of the way."
Huang Zhi still wanted to speak but clammed up instantly upon seeing Lu Hanchuan.
He still didn’t know that Lu Hanchuan was Ye Xiaoxiao’s boyfriend—or he’d be on his knees by now.
Once they’d made room, Ye Xiaoxiao crouched down and applied pressure to several acupoints on Xu Jianli’s body with her hands since she didn’t have needles.
Xu Jianli’s breathing slowly evened out, and he opened his eyes.
Ye Xiaoxiao turned her head and said, "Grab the first-aid kit for me."
Lu Hanchuan nodded and hurried off to fetch it.
Huang Zhi was still dazed, only just now realizing that the person who had walked over earlier was Ye Xiaoxiao.
To be honest, after not seeing her for two years, she had become even more beautiful—more striking than her younger self.
But her interaction with Lu Hanchuan just now left him puzzled.
Deng Xuefeng glanced at Huang Zhi and said, "You’re screwed."
Zhao Hongxia, seeing Xu Jianli open his eyes, quickly reached out. "Son, are you okay?"
Ye Xiaoxiao said, "Don’t jostle him."
Zhao Hongxia: "..."
She wanted to retort but didn’t dare now.
Xu Jianli was now fully conscious but too weak to lift a finger.
"Sister Xiaoxiao!"
Ye Xiaoxiao said, "Don’t talk. Rest for a bit."
When Lu Hanchuan brought the medical kit over, Ye Xiaoxiao carefully inserted a few more needles.
Once he was completely stable, she said, "You’ll still need a hospital visit."
Zhao Hongxia and Xu Jianli’s father were probably tied up at the moment, and the elderly couple from the Xu family hadn’t arrived yet.
If they saw their grandson having an attack, they’d haul him to the hospital on the spot.
Xu Xia called her son. "Take Jianli to the hospital."
Xu Xia’s son nodded and hurried off to get the car.
A cousin steadied Xu Jianli as they went downstairs.
Ye Xiaoxiao recommended the hospital just to be safe—her acupuncture had already steadied him, but the Xu family didn’t fully trust her. If complications arose, she couldn’t risk advising further.
Though Xu Jianli had left, the earlier incident had the group of people who had been secretly gossiping now buzzing about the scuffle.
Ye Xiaoxiao had no intention of staying for the feast. Little did she know she’d still be the topic before leaving.
It turned out that part of the reason Xu Jianli and The jerk Huang Zhi fought was because he was running his mouth and insulted her.
Ye Xiaoxiao wasn't even mad.
Who was Huang Zhi again…
Lu Hanchuan glanced at the spot where Huang Zhi had been—he was already gone.
He got away too easy back there.
Huang Zhi had left the capital because he got into trouble, and his family pulled strings to get him off. Seeing him still so lively, it seemed it was time to settle some old scores.
Though Lu Hanchuan didn’t say a word when he left, he had already made a mental note about Huang Zhi.
Bai Mengan saw Ye Xiaoxiao was about to leave.
She stood up too—if Ye Xiaoxiao hadn't shown up, she would've sent Mom instead after giving the gift money.
"Total waste, should've sent Mom instead."
Though she wanted to leave, Bai Mengan still felt skipping the free meal felt like a waste.
“Xiao Xiao, where you headed after this?”
Ye Xiaoxiao: “I’m going to Haiheyuan later. My master is there.”
Haiheyuan was sprawling, and Bai Mengan hadn’t expected her to be heading to the sanatorium—a place where cars couldn’t even park, and they'd chase you off within two minutes.
Bai Mengan muttered, “Alright then, text me when you get there.”
Ye Xiaoxiao nodded.
Only once they were in the car did Lu Hanchuan ask, “I thought you’d wait until the bride and groom came out before leaving.”
Ye Xiaoxiao leaned close to Lu Hanchuan, batting her lashes. “Isn’t it better if I leave early? After all, I can't stand the sight of the groom.”
With all the chaos earlier, half the crowd had already dipped.
By the time Xu Jianwen and Hao Yanyan came out, they’d probably notice the party's half-dead.
Lu Hanchuan quirked a smile. “To Haiheyuan?”
Ye Xiaoxiao: “To the Haiheyuan Sanatorium. One of my master’s patients is there, which is why I brought the medical kit.”
Lu Hanchuan understood and didn't press, heading straight there.
Unauthorized vehicles couldn’t even enter the place.
Even though Lu Hanchuan’s car was already top-tier.
Lu Hanchuan pulled up to the gate, and Ye Xiaoxiao went in with her pass.
The guards at the entrance still called it in before letting her in.
Ye Xiaoxiao waved at Lu Hanchuan.
The two agreed to have a family dinner together the day after tomorrow.
Once inside the sanatorium, Ye Xiaoxiao worked on Zhang Kaiyuan's rehab as usual.
They had initially expected results in three months, but in less than one, Zhang Kaiyuan’s legs had already started responding, allowing him to do basic exercises.
