Chapter 101: The Cat Is Sick
by 作业做了没Chapter 101: The Kitties Are Sick
In the middle of the night, Su Lichen heard a noise and got up to check. The two cats had come out and were scratching around in the litter box.
He didn't turn on the light, only used the flashlight on his phone. The tuxedo cat noticed him first, stopped, and tilted its head to look at him.
The kittens' eyes glowed like little night lights in the dark.
He reached out. The cat came over, sniffed his hand, and walked away.
Su Lichen crouched there, suddenly wondering if they might miss him?
Miss the person who rescued them from downstairs.
He didn't know. Su Lichen didn't know much about cats, but he did miss the guy who had gotten a bit of a tan.
Xu Moxing had also gotten quite tanned from work for a while before, and there was a clear tan line on his arm back then.
And Xu Moxing was a mosquito magnet. In the summer, he could only wear long pants, even at home, or he'd get bitten. As a result, apart from his arms and neck, everywhere else was fair and tender.
Su Lichen used to love touching the inside of his thighs, because Xu Moxing's skin there was cool and tender, and it tasted delicious.
Thinking of that, Su Lichen gulped. It had been a long time since they'd gotten any. Since Xu Moxing regained his memory on New Year's Day, not only had they not had sex, but they hadn't even shared a real kiss.
That meant Su Lichen had been in a dry spell for nearly half a year. During the nine months they were apart before, at least he had pleasured himself, even if when he did, his mind was on Xu Moxing.
Seeing that the kittens were fine, Su Lichen went straight back to his room to relieve himself.
On the third night after bringing the kittens home, before Su Lichen could use the cats as an excuse to contact Xu Moxing, something went wrong.
When Su Lichen called, Xu Moxing was eating. Seeing Su Lichen's incoming call, he frowned.
His first thought was that Su Lichen might have changed his mind and wanted to return the cats to him. It would be normal. Xu Moxing answered the phone.
"Hello?"
"The cats are sick," Su Lichen's voice was tight. "Throwing up and having diarrhea, low energy."
Xu Moxing put down his chopsticks. "Is it serious?"
"I don't know. I'm taking them to the hospital now."
"Which hospital?"
"The nearest pet hospital to my place. Are you coming? I'll send you the address."
"I'll be right there."
Xu Moxing took a taxi over. When he arrived, the two cats had already finished their examinations.
Su Lichen was sitting on the bench outside the consultation room, with the cat carrier beside him. Both cats were lying motionless on his lap.
Xu Moxing rushed over and stood next to him. "What did the doctor say?"
"They ran a bunch of tests. Said it might be gastroenteritis. Gave them shots for vomiting and diarrhea, applied external dewormer and gave them internal dewormer... told me to take them home and observe."
Neither of them had ever owned a cat, so they had no idea if the doctor knew what he was doing.
Xu Moxing crouched down, looking at the two cats on Su Lichen's lap, gently pet them. The cats let out a soft, obedient meow.
"I need to take them back. You..."
Xu Moxing hesitated for a moment, then still made a somewhat rude request: "Can I come over to your place to see them and go back later?"
"Sure, let's go. I drove here."
Xu Moxing helped put the cats into the carrier and noticed the red scratch marks on Su Lichen's hands.
"Did you get scratched by them?"
"Yeah, when I was trying to get them into the carrier, they fought back and scratched me. It's mainly because I didn't know the proper way to handle them. I'll get better with practice."
"Mm."
Xu Moxing followed Su Lichen to his home. It was his first time entering as a guest, and he felt surprisingly calm.
Xu Moxing sat on the sofa, quietly watching the two sleeping cats.
Su Lichen hadn't eaten yet. He had worked a bit late today, and as soon as he got home, he noticed the kittens were unwell, so he rushed them to the hospital.
"Uh, I'm going to order takeout. Have you eaten?"
"I was in the middle of eating, not full either. Let me treat you."
Xu Moxing felt a bit embarrassed. Last time, Su Lichen had spent so much money on him, and when he tried to transfer the money back, Su Lichen wouldn't accept it. Now the cats were sick, and Xu Moxing had sneaked a look at the bill—five thousand yuan!
Just a few tests and two shots, and it cost five thousand!
Su Lichen's eyes lit up. "Really? Then how about we eat out? Takeout would take at least forty minutes to arrive. We could go out, eat, and come back in that time."
"Sure, let's go. No time for a fancy restaurant, just something simple, okay?"
"Of course, let's go."
Su Lichen agreed readily. The two of them settled the cats and went out to eat.
It was the most peaceful meal they'd had in a long time, at least with no resistance from Xu Moxing.
They didn't go far, just found a small fast-food place near the neighborhood and ordered some stir-fried dishes.
Xu Moxing let Su Lichen order first. Su Lichen took the menu and said to the server, "Stuffed tofu with vegetables, dry-pot cauliflower."
Hearing the dish names, Xu Moxing looked up at Su Lichen, just as Su Lichen handed the menu to him. "Mo, you order a couple too, or it won't be enough."
Xu Moxing took the menu. Those two dishes alone would be enough for him, but they were both his favorites. He felt he should order at least two dishes for the other person, so he thought...
"Pickled pepper lotus root tips with beef, and spicy tripe."
Hearing those dish names, Su Lichen glanced at Xu Moxing and couldn't help silently smiling.
He had ordered Xu Moxing's favorites, and Xu Moxing had ordered his.
After they finished eating, Xu Moxing paid the bill, and they went back together to check on the kittens. No vomiting or abnormalities.
Xu Moxing checked the time. It was nearly 9:30. He stood up and said to Su Lichen, who was sitting on the other end of the sofa, "I'll head back now. Call me if anything happens."
"Okay, I'll walk you out."
"No need, the subway is fast at this hour."
"Let me see you off. You still have to walk to the subway station, and after you get off, you'll have to walk a bit more to get home."
Su Lichen had already walked to the door. Seeing his insistent stance, Xu Moxing didn't refuse anymore.
