Chapter 127: How Can You Be This Adorable?

Not long after hitting the highway, they ran into traffic.
Su Chen drove slowly, and Xu Moxing, sitting there, felt much better, his brain starting to work again.
"A Li, did you cancel the hotel?"
"Huh? I forgot. Use my phone to cancel it."
"Okay."
Xu Moxing skillfully unlocked Su Chen's phone, opened an app, and canceled the hotel they'd booked for their intended trip.
Su Chen had booked a standard twin room, but ever since they got together, they always booked a room with a king bed.
But now, since he was single and being pursued, out of respect, he had to book a twin room.
The whole drive, Xu Moxing kept finding things to talk about with Su Chen.
From daily life and hobbies to their respective jobs, he just wouldn't stop talking.
Su Chen thought Xu Moxing was too worried about his mother and that was why he was talking so much, so he couldn't help but reassure him.
"Mo, don't worry too much. Kidney stones just need to be blasted away—it's no big deal.
Diabetes is trickier, but if you take care of yourself—take your meds on time, follow the doctor's orders, keep your blood sugar in check and watch your diet—it's no different from a normal person. Don't worry too much; it won't cost a lot each month."
Xu Moxing nodded. He'd already done a lot of research and wasn't that worried anymore.
"I bought snacks and drinks. When you're hungry, just tell me. If it's hard to eat, I'll feed you."
"That's so thoughtful of you?"
During the traffic jam, Su Chen turned to Xu Moxing with a smile in his eyes.
"Well, since I can't drive, I gotta make sure you, the driver, are happy."
Xu Moxing's mind wandered, and he suddenly said, "Maybe after we deal with this, I'll go get my driver's license?"
"Huh? You want to buy a car?"
Su Chen remembered that when he used to tell Xu Moxing to get his license, Xu would always say he'd do it when he decided to buy a car.
Xu Moxing shook his head. "I was thinking, I can trade off with you so you don't get too tired from driving."
Su Chen's heart warmed at Xu Moxing's thought. "Sure, then go get it, and next time we go on a road trip, we'll take turns."
Midway, they stopped at a rest area. After using the bathroom, they walked around and ate something.
Xu Moxing had been really forward-thinking and bought a ton of stuff, so after they finished eating, they continued driving toward Xu Moxing's home.
It was already three in the morning, and there were occasional short traffic jams on the highway.
Su Chen noticed that Xu Moxing wasn't sleeping and was instead keeping him company by talking.
"Mo, if you're tired, take a nap. It'll still be exhausting once we get home, so sleep now."
Xu Moxing shook his head. "No, I have to keep talking to you. I'm worried you'll get too tired and fall asleep—that wouldn't be good. I bought tea, coffee, and energy drinks to keep you alert."
Su Chen finally realized that Xu Moxing had been talking to him all along to keep him from getting sleepy.
"Haha, Mo, how are you so cute?"
Xu Moxing's ears turned red at the compliment. He didn't think there was anything odd about what he was doing.
After all, this was the first time they had driven such a long distance together. It would take six or seven hours normally, but with traffic, it would probably take over eight hours, so of course he was worried about something going wrong.
Finally, a little after six in the morning, they got off the highway and reached the small county town where Xu Moxing's family lived.
"Let's check into a hotel first?"
Xu Moxing checked the hotels in the county. There were chain hotels, but the conditions probably weren't great, but they shouldn't be full since this was just a no-name little county.
"No rush. Let's take your mom to the hospital first. Just tell her I gave you a ride since you couldn't get a ticket at the last minute—say I'm a friend."
Xu Moxing hesitated for a moment but finally nodded.
"The hospital departments aren't open yet. Let's rest a bit first and grab some food."
"Sure. How about those local specialties you told me about? Take me to try them."
Xu Moxing perked up a bit and took Su Chen to his favorite breakfast spot.
The blanched vegetable shop wasn't open yet, but the noodle shop was.
As they ate their noodles, Xu Moxing looked at Su Chen expectantly.
"How is it? Does it taste good?"
Su Chen chewed the toppings and slurped a mouthful of noodles.
"So good! Can't we take some back to Shen City? I want to share it with my parents and Jiang Xingzhou."
Xu Moxing shook his head.
"No, no preservatives, so it'll go bad fast. Can't take it back."
Then he reconsidered: "Maybe it's possible. Since you drove here, if we keep it on ice, it might last longer.
If they can eat it the same day, it probably won't spoil, but I'm not sure how it'll taste after being refrigerated."
"We'll try that on the way back."
"Sure."
Xu Moxing took another big bite of noodles.
After they'd eaten their fill, Xu Moxing made Su Chen sleep in the car for a bit before driving to pick up Shen Qin.
"Wait in the car. Let me talk to my mom first to prep her mentally."
Actually, Xu Moxing was afraid Shen Qin might say something harsh in front of Su Chen. If she scolded him, that was fine. But if she put down Su Chen, Xu Moxing would really resent her.
Xu Moxing entered the house. Shen Qin and Xu Lan were still asleep.
He went straight to their door and knocked. "Mom, wake up. Let's go to the hospital to get you checked out."
Xu Lan was woken up and let out a string of vulgar insults, heavily peppered with 'your mom' curses.
Shen Qin has really lost a lot of weight. So it turns out that diabetes was the reason for her losing so much weight.
Xu Moxing completely ignored the other person and took Shen Qin away.
"My friend drove me back. He's very kind and said he'd take us to the hospital on the way. Please don't say anything bad about him."
"I'm not a shrew. The way you say that makes it sound like I go around scolding people every day."
Xu Moxing said nothing and led the way.
Of course Shen Qin doesn't scold everyone she meets—she only scolds when it comes to anything involving her own child. Outside, she fawns over others, flatters her own family, and tries to please relatives and friends who would never help her anyway.
Shen Qin followed Xu Moxing into the car.
Su Lichen gave a cheerful smile befitting a younger person.
"Hello, Auntie. I'm Mo Xing's good friend. My name is Su Lichen. Mo Xing couldn't get a ticket at the last minute, and I happened to want to come here for a visit, so I came back with him."
"Oh, Xiao Su, hello. Thanks for going out of your way to bring him back. There was no need for that—he could have just taken the bus. Taking the bus isn't tiring, but driving is much more exhausting for you."
Xu Moxing didn't respond. After confirming she was seated, Su Lichen drove to the hospital following the navigation Xu Moxing had set.
"It's no trouble. Driving isn't tiring at all. Actually, taking the bus is quite exhausting—nowhere to put your feet, bad smells, noisy environment, and it doesn't run at night. You can only curl up in a cramped seat and can't sleep comfortably. Driving yourself is much more comfortable—much cleaner and more comfortable."
Su Lichen remembered how Xu Moxing always complained to him about how uncomfortable the bus was, so he said a few words in his defense.
With Su Lichen there, Shen Qin didn't want to say too much, so the topic was dropped.
