Chapter 124: Want to Stick to You Every Day

The office was pretty bare-bones, with only a few computers.
Su Lichen led him into his personal office.
"Just take a seat for now, I'm going to help out. If you get bored, you can watch videos on my computer. I'll probably be done in an hour or two."
"Okay, do you need any help? I can lend a hand."
"No need, I'll take care of it with the warehouse manager. If you helped, I'd have to take time to show you around, and I don't have that right now. That's not to dismiss your abilities."
Xu Moxing nodded, sat down in Su Lichen's ergonomic chair, and started messing around on his phone.
Seeing how at ease he was, Su Lichen smiled.
"The computer password is our... well, it's 1011. Feel free to turn it on if you want."
With that, Su Lichen left, hoping to wrap things up quickly.
Xu Moxing heard the password and realized what Su Lichen had initially intended to say—he was probably going to say "the password is the date we officially became a couple."
After playing on his phone for a while, Xu Moxing couldn't resist opening the laptop. The wallpaper was an old photo of them together.
An hour later, Xu Moxing went out to see how he was doing. Su Lichen was still busy, his coat already taken off.
Su Lichen was talking to the warehouse worker in coveralls, pointing at stacks of goods, flipping through documents, signing off. He spoke quickly, unlike his usual style.
Xu Moxing watched his back and truly felt that, to outsiders, starting a business seemed like being your own boss without having to deal with the crap of being an employee. But only those in the know understood the hardships involved.
Of course, from an employee's perspective, one might think, "You're the boss, you make so much money—why should I feel sorry for you?"
That's not an unreasonable way to think.
All lives are reasonable; people don't need to understand each other in every way, no need to sympathize for no reason.
Xu Moxing just watched Su Lichen from a distance, busy at work, and didn't disturb him.
To be honest, the warehouse smelled pretty rank. With so many goods, the smell of cardboard and tape was nasty, not to mention the scent of the products themselves. Good ventilation is key in a place like this.
Xu Moxing watched for a while, then quietly went back to the office to play on the computer.
A little later, Su Lichen walked in. "Mo, ready to head out? It's 4:30. You hungry?"
"All done?"
Xu Moxing shifted his gaze from the computer screen to Su Lichen.
"Yeah."
"Isn't 4:30 too early to eat?"
Xu Moxing wasn't hungry yet.
"We can go take a look. This season, they have homegrown sugarcane there. We can have some fruit first and then take our time ordering."
"Alright."
Su Lichen drove him to the farmhouse restaurant they had visited before.
The farmhouse was nicely set up, with a stone path that felt fun to walk on.
Apart from the path, everything else was used for planting. The setting really reminded Xu Moxing of his rural hometown, which he hadn't visited in years.
The owner brought over two sticks of hot, steaming sugarcane. Xu Moxing took one; it was warm and smelled sweet.
"Roasted sugarcane?"
"Yeah, try it. It's really different roasted like this—moist and warm."
Xu Moxing took a bite. Sweet and fragrant. He chewed happily. "So good."
They ate sugarcane as they strolled around the garden, picking vegetables they wanted for dinner. They hung out there until 6 p.m. before finally having dinner.
"Got any plans for tomorrow?"
Su Lichen picked up some food with chopsticks and asked Xu Moxing, who was eating happily.
"No plans. Just gonna sleep in."
"Oh, then when you wake up, can I come over and hang out? We can cook something."
Xu Moxing looked up at him. To be honest, Su Lichen's intentions were pretty clear, and he probably didn't want to hide them.
Su Lichen was straightforward, unashamed, and unabashedly letting Xu Moxing know that he wanted to cling to him every possible second.
"Sure, I'll text you when I'm awake. But I'm not sure what time I'll wake up. If you get hungry, go ahead and eat without me."
Xu Moxing didn't want this agreement to disrupt his weekend plans. He was really enjoying being able to do whatever he wanted these days, without having to think about anyone else.
If he set a specific time, he'd be thinking about it all day and wouldn't be able to fully enjoy his weekend.
"Okay, no worries. You can get up whenever."
After dinner, Su Lichen drove back to the city.
Xu Moxing saw it was still early. After a moment's hesitation, he said, "Can I come over to your place to see Little Tabby? Haven't seen him in a while."
"Of course, you're always welcome. He's probably missed you, too."
Su Lichen was more than happy to spend extra time with Xu Moxing.
When they arrived at Su Lichen's place and opened the door, Little Tabby was already sitting at the door.
Seeing Xu Moxing, the cat meowed and came over and rubbed against his pant leg.
"Little Tabby~ Do you still remember me?"
Xu Moxing bent down and scooped him up. Little Tabby purred loudly in his arms, nuzzling his chin.
"He definitely remembers you."
Xu Moxing didn't respond. He sat down on the sofa with the cat in his arms.
Little Tabby kneaded his lap, curled into a ball, and squinted his eyes.
Su Lichen went to the kitchen, poured two glasses of water, set them on the coffee table, and sat down beside Xu Moxing. They sat in silence, and the cat's purring was loud in the quiet room.
Little Tabby dozed a bit, then got up and zoomed around again. Xu Moxing picked up its toy and started playing with it.
Su Lichen sat on the sofa, watching the two of them with a smile.
An hour later, Xu Moxing set the cat down on the sofa and stood up.
"I'm heading back."
"I'll walk you out."
Su Lichen stood up too.
"No need, I'll just take a cab."
"I'll walk you out."
Su Lichen had already grabbed his jacket.
Xu Moxing didn't refuse again. The two went downstairs and got into the car.
They drove along the road. Su Lichen no longer needed GPS for the route to Xu Moxing's place.
The car was very quiet; neither spoke, but both felt relaxed and at ease.
When they reached the intersection, Xu Moxing spoke up: "Just stop here. Otherwise it'll be hard for you to turn around. I'll walk the rest of the way."
"Okay."
Su Lichen pulled over. Xu Moxing unbuckled his seatbelt.
"See you tomorrow."
Su Lichen looked at Xu Moxing; reluctantly, he couldn't help saying those words.
"Yeah. Eat if you're hungry, don't wait for me. I'll text you when I wake up."
Xu Moxing pushed the door open and stepped out. The cold wind rushed in.
He closed the door and headed toward his rental.
Su Lichen sat in the car, watching until Xu Moxing disappeared from sight before driving away.
He was really happy today—not ecstatic, but a steady, calm kind of happy he hadn't felt in a long time.
He knew Xu Moxing was also letting him in slowly, bit by bit—letting him see him off, eat with him, go to the warehouse, and make plans for tomorrow.
It takes two to love, and it takes two to fix a relationship.
Shortly after Xu Moxing got home, he received a call from Xu Jianqing.
"Hey, bro? I went home for a bit, and when I came back, I noticed Mom had lost a lot of weight."
Xu Moxing frowned. "What's wrong with her?"
"No idea. She said she's on a diet, but something feels off. She's been trying to lose weight for years and never actually lost any. I rushed back and sent her some money to go see a doctor."
"Alright. After she sees the doctor, I'll call her and ask."
They chatted a bit and then hung up.
Xu Moxing had been in a great mood, but his spirits sank after getting that call about family stuff.
