Chapter 64: He Has His Eyes on He Feiyan
by 六六小可爱Chapter 64: He Has His Eyes on He Feiyan
Jiang Yu could understand every word, but when they were put together, she found herself confused.
"What opportunity?"
Zhuang Yihang was quite pleased with himself, puffing out his chest.
For some time now, he had wanted to seek out Jiang Yu but had restrained himself, as his mother had said that Jiang Yu would come looking for him because marrying him would be her honor.
At first, he hadn't believed it, but now, seeing her, it was clear.
"You probably haven't found a guy from the city to date, right? It's understandable. As a girl from the countryside, it's not easy to marry a city guy. Fortunately, I think you're quite suitable for me. As long as you listen to my mother, I might consider dating you."
Jiang Yu: "...Should I thank you then?"
Zhuang Yihang smiled, "That won't be necessary. Even though you don’t quite match up to me, I’ll settle for you."
Jiang Yu scoffed, "What status do I have, and what status do you have? Aren't we both proletarians and successors of socialism? Or are you some feudal-era prince who needs a royal match?"
These few words were enough to throw Zhuang Yihang into panic.
"Don't misunderstand, I didn't mean..."
Jiang Yu lifted her chin, "Then explain to me, what do you mean my status doesn't match yours?"
Zhuang Yihang stammered, "I meant you are a country girl."
"So what if I am a country girl? Does that mean you look down on us country folks? My family has been poor farmers for generations; we have a good background. How dare you look down on us self-reliant proletarians? Your thinking is really off base!"
Zhuang Yihang was lost in Jiang Yu’s logic, struggling to follow her train of thought.
He hadn't meant it that way!
Finally, Sister Ren stepped in, "Girl, why are you always putting labels on people? Don't bully honest young Zhuang. If you're here to make amends, show some sincerity. Why play hard to get? You should know, young Zhuang is quite popular. If he didn’t have his eyes on you, many city girls would want to marry him."
Jiang Yu chuckled, "Big sister, if you like him, take him. When did I ever say I liked him? I already have someone."
Sister Ren was stunned, and looking at Zhuang Yihang's foolish expression, it was clear to her.
Zhuang Yihang had been deluding himself; Jiang Yu wasn’t interested in him at all.
"Then you're here to see Director Yao?"
"Yes, could you please call her?"
Before Sister Ren could respond, Yao Xiangling emerged from inside.
"Let's go. I heard you from inside."
Jiang Yu smiled brightly and took her hand.
"Auntie, let’s grab a bite out. I’ve got some good news to tell you."
As their figures faded into the distance, Zhuang Yihang stood there, dazed and unable to recover.
Sister Ren sighed, "Zhuang, don’t get your hopes up. She’s already seeing someone. You’re not young anymore. How about I introduce someone to you?"
Zhuang Yihang felt an indescribable mix of disappointment and frustration.
Who is Jiang Yu's boyfriend, does he have a stable job, and are his conditions better than hers?
Why doesn't she like me? What’s wrong with me?
"Alright! Sister Ren, please introduce me to someone better than Jiang Yu."
Sister Ren gave a dismissive look. "Which city girl isn't better than her? I have a niece; her father is the principal of a middle school, and her family conditions are quite good."
Zhuang Yihang pondered for a moment. This description reminded him of Zhang Xiyue.
"What's her name?"
"Zhang Xiyue, would you like to meet her?"
Zhuang Yihang felt awkward. "I know her, but doesn't she already have someone?"
Sister Ren snorted. "They broke up. Her parents never approved; it was all a moment of confusion on Zhang Xiyue's part."
It was said that the man initiated the breakup, and Zhang Xiyue had cried for several days, unable to get over it until now.
Zhang Xiyue's mother and Sister Ren were sisters. After discussing it, they decided to marry Zhang Xiyue off as soon as possible.
Zhuang Yihang hesitated for a moment. Would it be wrong to date my cousin's ex-girlfriend?
But Zhang Xiyue's qualities were indeed excellent. She looked great, except for her slight arrogance.
"Sister Ren, I need to go home and inform my mother."
"Go ahead, discuss it with her."
...
On the other side, Jiang Yu and Yao Xiangling walked hand in hand towards the state-run restaurant.
Coming here twice in one day felt like a luxury to Jiang Yu.
But Yao Xiangling, after hearing her good news, thought it was worth celebrating.
"This is wonderful news! Since you've confirmed the relationship, have you talked about when to get married?"
In those days, it was common to start preparing for marriage after meeting and finding each other suitable.
When they talked about marriage, Jiang Yu felt both excited and shy.
"Let's spend some time together first. If things work out, we could get married next month."
Yao Xiangling wanted them to get married as soon as possible to avoid any changes.
But seeing that Jiang Yu had her plans, she didn’t push further.
"As long as you’re sure, Aunt, I just hope for the best for you. He Tingyue is a good guy. After you're married, treat each other sincerely; that's how marriages last."
"I understand, Aunt. He treats me well, and I'll do the same for him."
Jiang Yu's good mood lasted the entire day, all thanks to He Tingyue.
Her good mood continued into the next day.
She told Xie Feifei about her relationship with He Tingyue.
Xie Feifei sighed, "My cousin is indeed a bit inferior compared to Section Chief He."
He Feiyan had already heard about it, though not from He Tingyue directly.
"Yesterday, when Duan Yuzhen returned to the courtyard, she went to find Jiang Ting to talk about this. Your sister was really shaken up by it."
Jiang Ting always acted superior around Jiang Yu, simply because she married Fu Xiangyang.
So, when Jiang Yu found someone even better, no wonder she was furious.
He Feiyan looped her arm through Jiang Yu's and tilted her head.
"Can I start calling you 'Sister-in-law' now?"
Jiang Yu blushed and said, "We're not married yet, so it’s a bit early for that."
He Feiyan smiled without saying a word. She knew her brother—if he sets his sights on someone, he doesn’t waver.
Xie Feifei, however, turned to look at her with a somewhat meaningful gaze.
"My cousin didn’t get to see you yesterday, did he?"
Jiang Yu nodded, "I heard he was on a mission."
Xie Feifei said, "He was on a mission, but he left a message for my parents, saying that he’s pushing away the other women he was seeing. He’s already got someone in mind."
Jiang Yu looked puzzled, while Xie Feifei stared intently at He Feiyan.
"My cousin said he’s set his sights on Comrade He Feiyan."
He Feiyan: "..."
We barely talked, how could he have already set his sights on me?!
She raised her hands in a gesture of surrender.
"We did talk, but we barely exchanged ten words!"
Xie Feifei didn’t care about the process, only the result.
At least someone finally caught Huang Zefang’s attention.
"Feiyan, what about you? How do you feel about my cousin?"
He Feiyan hesitated for a moment, "Should I tell the truth?"
"Of course, you should."
He Feiyan: "He's handsome and has good conditions, but I don’t have strong feelings for him."
It’s weird, I just didn’t feel any chemistry.
Xie Feifei let out a disappointed ah, knowing that feelings can't be forced.
