Chapter 121: I’m Not Getting Married!
by 六六小可爱Chapter 121: I'm Not Getting Married!
Tong Fang's voice echoed throughout the entire residential compound.
Jiang Yu couldn't help but walk out of the room, almost thinking she had heard wrong.
"Who? Who died?"
Lin Donghua was stunned. "I heard Tong Fang say... Fu Xiangyang died?"
This is too sudden!
In the time it took to say this, Tong Fang had already run in, heading straight for the Fu family's house.
"Aunt Lin, someone asked me to send you a message. Fu Xiangyang died! Fu Xiangyang was killed by his wife!"
Lin Hongxia's legs gave out, and she collapsed to the ground.
Shocked to the core, she sat there stunned for a long time.
"What did you say? What happened to my Xiangyang?"
Tong Fang quickly repeated, "I heard it from someone else. Xiangyang was driven to death by his wife, and he's still at the hospital now!"
Lin Hongxia wailed, "Xiangyang! My son, how did you die so tragically! My Xiangyang!"
Xu Lihua hurriedly said, "Mrs. Lin, don't cry. Go to the hospital first. There might still be a chance to save him!"
With Tong Fang's support, Lin Hongxia walked out with faltering steps.
"Family misfortune! Family misfortune!"
Xu Lihua sighed. "He was so full of life this morning. How could he be gone just like that? What must Jiang Ting have done to drive someone to death?"
With such a big incident, Sun's mother also came out of the house and coldly remarked, "Mind your own words."
Old Master Duan also came out of the house. "Everyone, go back to your rooms. I'll go check on the hospital."
Everyone waited at home for news, and even people from other residential compounds came to inquire.
They waited until evening when everyone had returned from work.
As soon as He Tingyue entered, he noticed white cloth hanging at the entrance of the courtyard and paused in his steps.
"Aunt Xu, why are you doing this?"
Xu Lihua said, "Xiangyang has passed away. I'm here to help..."
"Stop talking nonsense! Xu Lihua, I see you've got ill intentions, wishing death upon my Xiangyang. My Xiangyang is fine!" Lin Hongxia had returned at some point.
Xu Lihua was surprised. "So he was saved?"
"Resuscitated my foot! My Xiangyang is perfectly fine; he just fainted."
She had cried her heart out, rushing to the hospital and sobbing over someone else's father.
A young man nearby reminded her, "Auntie, have you cried at the wrong funeral?"
Only then did she realize that Fu Xiangyang was still alive.
Jiang Yu saw He Tingyue come home and pulled him into the house.
"Fu Xiangyang is okay, right?"
"He's okay, just suffered a shock and passed out."
Jiang Yu clicked her tongue in disapproval, "He's too weak. No wonder he's so thin."
He Tingyue raised an eyebrow, teasingly, "You don't like thin guys?"
He remembered last time Jiang Yu had complained that Sun Zailiang was too short and thin.
Jiang Yu looked at him sideways, "I like someone like you."
Tall and broad-shouldered, with muscles that show when he takes off his shirt.
"Tsk."
He wrinkled his brow, "Don’t mess with me, alright?"
Jiang Yu pouted, "Who's messing with you? You're shameless."
She walked out and stirred the chicken soup on the stove, putting the mushrooms in.
"How about skipping the steamed buns tonight and making some pulled noodles instead? Let's have chicken soup noodles, what do you say?"
He Tingyue's pulled noodles are always so chewy and delicious. Thinking about the zha jiang mian from last time still makes her mouth water.
"Okay, I'll go knead the dough."
He rolled up his sleeves and headed to the kitchen.
Before long, He Feiyan and her two younger siblings also came home.
"It smells amazing! Is that chicken soup I'm smelling?" He Lilan took a deep breath, enjoying the scent.
Jiang Yu tapped her on the nose, "You've got the best nose around. Go wash your hands and have some chestnut cakes first, they're fragrant and sweet."
He Feiyan didn't need reminding and had already washed her hands and ran to get the chestnut cakes.
The chestnut cakes were still warm at this point, the sweetness of jujube mixed with chestnut, delicious!
"Having a sister-in-law around is bliss."
Without Jiang Yu around, He Tingyue never cooks, and we all end up eating at the cafeteria.
He Feiyan squatted at the door eating chestnut cakes and soon saw Zeng Chang walk up to Sun's mother, furious.
"Xiu Yu, who hit you? Who beat you up like this?"
Sun’s mother wiped away her tears, looking heartbroken, "Don't ask. Let's just make a big issue into a small one. Who else can I blame? I lost my husband young, and now I’m just an easy target for bullies."
Zeng Chang felt a deep ache in his heart, "What are you saying? Isn't there still me?"
Sun’s mother gave a bitter smile, "You're getting married. How can I still hold you back? You shouldn't come see me anymore, or people will gossip. This is my life, and it's settled."
Zeng Chang blurted out in pain, "I’m not getting married! I’ll spend my life with you and no one else!"
Jiang Yu: "..." What kind of person is this.
Sun's mother shook her head. "Absolutely not, Brother Zeng. I hope you find someone who truly cares for you and can take good care of you. Please don't stay single because of me; I'm not worth that!"
"What nonsense are you saying? Who else is worth it besides you? I'll go to South River Village tomorrow and call off this engagement!"
Sun's mother looked troubled. "Is this really a good idea?"
Zeng Chang's expression was solemn as he shook his head and took some money out of his pocket, stuffing it into her hand.
"I'll handle this matter. Just trust me. Take this money and use it to take care of yourself. Don't be polite with me!"
He Feiyan looked at the chestnut cake in her hand and suddenly lost her appetite.
She stared blankly at the scene and whispered to herself, "So, he’s not going through with the marriage?"
Jiang Yu shook her head. "I don't know either. This Aunt Ruan is really quite skillful."
Xu Lihua's little tricks were no match for Sun's mother.
If Zeng Chang really went to South River Village to call off the engagement tomorrow, Yang Cuilan would definitely cause a scene.
He was really naive. By now, Jiang Li's reputation had already been tarnished. Yang Cuilan wouldn't let go so easily.
After a while, He Tingyue came out. "Wife, the noodles are ready."
Jiang Yu opened the chicken soup on the stove, and the rich, overpowering aroma filled the entire yard, making the neighbors' kids practically drool over it.
"The chicken soup is about done too. Just cook the noodles in the water, then drain them. Later, pour the chicken soup over."
"Okay."
Once the noodles were cooked, there was a large basin full of them.
Jiang Yu and He Feiyan, He Lilan ate less, only taking a bowl of noodles each, and the rest were divided among the three of them.
But the meatier parts, like the chicken legs, were naturally passed to the women.
The chewy noodles, soaked in rich mushroom chicken soup, had everyone focused on eating, too busy to talk.
Once full and warm, Jiang Yu's eyes smiled, her heart filled with a deep sense of satisfaction. "So delicious!" she sighed contentedly.
He Tingyue added some more noodles to her bowl. "Eat more; you barely took any."
"Enough, I’m full with just this. I still have some soup left."
The entire pot of chicken, both the soup and meat, was finished. The soup was so delicious, she couldn't bear to waste any of it.
He Tingyue stopped her from putting food back. "Eat! You’re not eating enough!"
Jiang Yu couldn't suppress the corner of her mouth. "Alright then."
