Chapter 566: Finished Listing the Benefits
by 六六小可爱Chapter 566: When Benefits Run Out
Wei Xiuru's face turned pale, her panicked gaze instinctively flickering toward He Jingyi.
However, the woman in the cheongsam wasn’t about to let her go.
Having finally seized this opportunity, she was hell-bent on humiliating Wei Xiuru.
"Now that you've succeeded, my husband wants to divorce me and marry your cousin. You happy now?"
Wei Xiuru shrank back, avoiding her gaze as she denied it. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."
"I’m saying that back when you hooked up with Chief He, I only knew you were skilled as a whore. Who knew you’d be just as good at pimping?"
"That trash? Take him—gladly—I’ll hand him over to your cousin. Let’s see how long your kind lasts."
She had long planned to divorce, but resentment had festered in her heart.
Now that someone had handed her this chance, she finally felt vindicated.
Wei Xiuru seethed with humiliation; she dug her nails into her palms, drawing blood.
The woman’s parting glance, in particular, was pure disgust—as if looking at garbage.
He Jingyi closed his eyes, weariness dragged at him.
Humiliation after humiliation because of Wei Xiuru—no one could stay composed under such circumstances.
"What did she mean? Did you introduce Lao Geng to your cousin?"
Wei Xiuru forced a laugh. "I’m no pimp! Why would I introduce my cousin to Lao Geng for no reason? They met by chance. You know Lao Geng—the man’s a pig. He must’ve set his sights on my cousin because she’s pretty. But being beautiful isn’t her fault!"
"And now Lao Geng wants a divorce for your cousin?"
Wei Xiuru hurriedly distanced herself. "How should I know? Maybe it’s for some other reason—it might not have anything to do with my cousin."
He Jingyi gave her a cold sidelong glance. "It better fucking not."
"Of course not!"
Wei Xiuru boiled with rage. When she had pulled this stunt, she only meant to win Lao Geng over—never expecting it would backfire so badly.
If she ever found out who had set her up, she wouldn’t let them off!
He Jingyi, worn out, body and soul, didn’t return to the He family. Instead, he went straight to the military base.
He had kept his arrest quiet, passing it off as a short leave.
As long as he pretended those three days didn’t matter, no one would know he’d been detained.
At the base, he was still the revered Chief He.
But the act didn’t fool anyone.
Because news of his and Wei Xiuru’s detention had already spread through the ranks.
Most didn’t dare mention it to his face, but he could clearly sense their sideways glances and stiff silences.
Only when he pressed did he learn that the story had been circulating since the very first day of his detention.
He Jingyi continued to deceive himself, thinking that only by staying unbothered could he act like it never happened.
After all, they wouldn’t dare say it to his face.
But before one mess was cleared up, another popped up.
Someone had sent a letter to the military district, turning Wei Xiuru in.
Though he and Wei Xiuru weren’t legally married, they were practically married in everyone’s eyes.
To outsiders, he and Wei Xiuru were one and the same.
She was accused of breaking up military marriages, pushing her cousin onto Lao Geng for her own gain.
It happened right when Lao Geng had filed for divorce. The backlash was too big, and Lao Geng was immediately suspended from duty.
Even He Jingyi got dragged into it.
To steer clear of suspicion, he was barred from intervening and had to step down temporarily, returning home to await the investigation’s outcome.
Jiang Yu heard every bit of it.
He Tingyue didn’t usually step in, since he wasn’t the type to start drama.
But this time, He Jingyi and Wei Xiuru had gone too far.
"If the allegations are proven true, will your father face disciplinary action?"
"Yes."
In theory, this matter had little to do with He Jingyi.
But he was unlucky enough to be tied to someone like Wei Xiuru.
The outcome satisfied Jiang Yu.
"Serves him right for not seeing it coming. Wei Nan’s next, right?"
Since they had acted, they had to hit them where it hurts—enough to teach Wei Xiuru a lesson.
"I’ve got this. Don’t sweat it."
Jiang Yu covered her mouth, trying not to laugh. "If your father finds out it was us, he’d probably blow a gasket."
He Tingyue had never intended to hide it. "He’ll find out soon."
Jiang Yu kicked her feet, splashing water from the basin onto the floor.
"I’m done. I’m all sweaty."
Only a jerk like He Tingyue would make her soak her feet in this weather.
He Tingyue dried her feet and took the basin out.
It was dark, so he didn’t see the person outside—until an entire basin of foot-washing water was splashed right over their head.
Wei Xiuru screamed, "What are you doing?"
Jiang Yu came running at the noise.
"What are you doing here at this late hour?"
Wei Xiuru shook with rage and was ready to walk out right then.
But remembering the purpose of her visit, she gritted her teeth and forced herself to stay.
"Jiang Yu, let me inside to talk."
Jiang Yu stood blocking the doorway, calmly watching her.
"Spit it out right here. You're not welcome in our home."
Wei Xiuru took a deep breath and wiped the water from her face.
The darkness concealed her reddened eyes, so Jiang Yu didn’t notice the venom in her eyes.
"I know all about it."
Jiang Yu raised an eyebrow. "Know what?"
Wei Xiuru spat through gritted teeth. "Hong Yizhen, and the anonymous letter, it was all you."
Hong Yizhen was the woman in the *qipao* who had humiliated her—Lao Geng’s ex-wife.
At the same time, she was also Jiang Yu’s cousin, the daughter of Director Chen from the Gynecology Department at People’s Hospital.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend, so of course she and Hong Yizhen joined forces immediately.
"Oh, you found out. And?"
Her indifferent attitude infuriated Wei Xiuru.
"How could you do such a thing! That’s your father-in-law, your husband’s father! Jiang Yu, what good does opposing us do you? A woman like you will never deserve the He family’s recognition in this lifetime!"
Jiang Yu gave a nonchalant, "Oh." "Done listing the perks? What about the drawbacks? Will the He family's recognition make me queen of the world? I’m not some universal favorite—I don’t care if everyone likes me."
Wei Xiuru’s face flushed red with frustration. She couldn’t win in a fight, nor could she out-argue her.
Sometimes she wondered if Jiang Yu was her personal nemesis.
Had she committed too many sins in the past, angering the heavens enough to send Jiang Yu to torment her?
"Jiang Yu, continuing this feud benefits neither of us. Let’s call a truce."
Jiang Yu tilted her head. "How is there no benefit? Seeing you suffer makes me happy."
Wei Xiuru felt her chest constrict, almost blacked out from anger.
"Then let's make a deal! In exchange, help me resolve the anonymous letter situation!"
Jiang Yu shot her an icy glare, arms crossed.
"And what’s your bargaining chip?"
Wei Xiuru: "I have Wei Baiyun’s dirt in my possession!"
