Chapter 401 It Has Nothing to Do with Me

Auntie Sun repeatedly assured her that no one else would find out, and only then did Wu Jingyi dare to let her leave, "helpfully" pointing out where Jiang Yu was.
Watching her march off angrily, Wu Jingyi leisurely turned and walked away.
Meanwhile, Jiang Yu tightened her coat, feeling cold after staying outside too long.
Wu Jinshun frowned. "Why hasn’t Jingyi come back yet? She’s been gone way too long."
Just as Jiang Yu was about to go look for Wu Jingyi, she spotted Auntie Sun approaching.
Her aggressive stance made it clear she was here for trouble.
"Auntie Sun, it’s work hours—how did you get in?" Jiang Yu spoke first.
Auntie Sun put her hands on her hips. "Don’t worry about how I got in! First, tell me why you’re causing trouble by egging my daughter-in-law on to divorce my son! Because of you, Wang Tong won’t budge—she’s hell-bent on divorce!"
Jiang Yu lowered her head, packing up her drawing tools. "Auntie Sun, if you want to know why Sister Tong is divorcing, ask her yourself. It has nothing to do with me."
"Someone saw you talking to Wang Tong with their own eyes—you’re the one turning her against him! Wang Tong and my son were doing just fine all these years. How could she suddenly want a divorce? Someone must’ve pin everything on her!"
Jiang Yu felt exhausted. Did she look like an easy target that people could pin everything on her?
She could tolerate it, but Cai Xiaole had a fiery temper.
"Look here, Auntie, your son never comes home, and you never see a dime of what he earns—and you call that 'just fine'? Sister Tong is supporting her mother-in-law and child all by herself. Isn’t that pretty much divorced already? Oh wait, no—it’s worse than widowhood! Even widows don’t have to work to support their dead husband’s mother!"
Auntie Sun was so furious she almost stumbled backward, her nostrils flaring as she trembled and pointed at Cai Xiaole.
"How dare you curse my son!"
Cai Xiaole scoffed. "That trash? I wouldn’t waste my breath cursing him!"
Jiang Yu, worried Cai Xiaole’s sharp tongue would set Auntie Sun off, tried to intervene—
But Cai Xiaole cut her off with a frown. "If we don’t lay it out straight, she’ll keep thinking Sister Tong is the one in the wrong. I’ve seen plenty of heartless people—my own family’s full of them—but a grandma this heartless? That’s rare!"
Auntie Sun still felt wronged. "How am I heartless?"
Cai Xiaole shot her a scornful look.
"Don’t tell me you’re still clueless, Auntie Sun—there’s been a rumor going around our factory. Folks saw your son holding hands with another man from our factory at the movies. Does your son even like women, or are you, his mother, still clueless?"
Auntie Sun’s face turned purple with rage, and she roared, "You’ve gone too far!"
Even Cai Xiaole was startled by her reaction and hid behind Jiang Yu.
"I’m not lying! Everyone at the factory’s gossiping about it!"
Her words only added fuel to the fire of Auntie Sun’s fury.
"How dare you! My son is innocent! How could you slander him like this? Jiang Yu, I actually thought you were decent, but you’re just helping others smear him! I’m reporting this to your boss—this isn’t over!"
Seeing Auntie Sun’s explosive rage, Cai Xiaole finally realized her big mouth had caused trouble.
But she still felt wronged. "It wasn’t me who started it—everyone at the factory’s gossiping about it."
Jiang Yu looked at her helplessly and whispered, "He is her only son. How could she not be furious?"
That’s exactly why Wang Tong hadn’t told Auntie Sun.
He is her only son—how could she possibly believe the cruel truth that Sun Yuan liked men?
Cai Xiaole’s words cut deep, like a knife to the heart.
"Auntie Sun, some of what Xiaole said was too harsh. Just ignore it. As for Sister Tong’s matter, she’s a grown woman. Even if I did try to stir things up, doesn’t she have the ability to judge for herself?"
Auntie Sun was seething, her heart in agony, and she refused to let it go easily, demanding they face the supervisor.
At first, Cai Xiaole panicked, afraid of implicating Jiang Yu.
But seeing Auntie Sun doggedly blaming Jiang Yu, she too grew furious.
"Fine by me, let’s go. I’m not afraid, even if we have to stand in front of the supervisor. These factory rumors have been around forever—everyone knows about them. Why can’t I say it?" Cai Xiaole’s tone was cold and unyielding, going toe-to-toe with Auntie Sun.
"You two have destroyed my family!"
Auntie Sun was hysterical with rage, wailing and crying.
Cai Xiaole shouted that she would call security. "It’s working hours—how did an outsider get in? What if she’s a spy? Auntie Sun, if you don’t leave now, I’ll have someone carry you out!"
Auntie Sun snorted coldly and planted herself on the floor.
"Go ahead and call security. Today, I’m going to show everyone who you really are and let them see how vicious you are! You’ve destroyed my family!"
She was an old woman—let’s see who’d dare touch her.
Jiang Yu’s head was pounding, her temples throbbing.
And hot-headed Cai Xiaole wouldn’t back down.
"What’s the point of arguing with her? It just makes us look guilty of pushing Sister Tong to divorce. Whether Sister Tong divorces or not, it has nothing to do with us in essence."
Cai Xiaole still refused to back down. "How is it unrelated? We saw with our own eyes—"
Jiang Yu shot her a sharp look. "Xiaole!"
Cai Xiaole clamped her mouth shut, fuming.
Wang Tong finally came over, drawn by Auntie Sun’s outburst.
"Mom, what are you doing here? Everyone’s working—if you hold things up, can you handle the consequences?"
Auntie Sun shoved her aside, redirecting her anger at her.
"Why do you think I’m here? If it weren’t for you insisting on divorcing Sun Yuan, would I have come looking for you? I’ll say it plainly today—why do you want a divorce? Did Jiang Yu poison your mind?"
Wang Tong’s expression darkened, and she snapped, "Mom, what does Jiang Yu have to do with this? I’ve barely even met her! I’m in the workshop all day—how would I even get in touch with someone from the office building? That’s ridiculous!"
But Auntie Sun refused to believe it. "People saw Jiang Yu whispering in your ear, pushing you to divorce—it’s true! Wang Tong, all these years, I’ve helped raise your child and managed the household. Sun Yuan worked outside and never caused you trouble. How can you be so cruel?"
Bystanders, as always, enjoyed the drama without caring about the consequences.
No matter what they really thought, they naturally urged reconciliation, not separation.
"Wang Tong, your mother-in-law hasn’t treated you badly. You can’t be so ungrateful."
"The child isn’t little anymore—what’ll happen to them if you divorce now?"
"A perfectly good family, ruined just because you’re being stubborn—how can you justify that?"
Every single word was meant to blame Wang Tong.
Wang Tong remained unmoved; she had heard these words many times before.
Yet no one could persuade her not to divorce.
"Mom, my business has nothing to do with Jiang Yu. If you really want to know, I’ll tell you at home."
She went to grab Auntie Sun’s arm, but the older woman yanked herself away.
"I’m not leaving! If you have something to say, say it here. My family has nothing to hide! Do you have any idea what they were saying about us? She claimed Sun Yuan is into men! To make you divorce, they didn’t hesitate to slander your husband. If you’re okay with that, I sure as hell am not!"
