Chapter 507 She Works for Me
by 六六小可爱Chapter 507 – She Hired Me
Jiang Yu didn’t know what things were like at Yu Lan’s home. She had said everything she could—the decision was up to Yu Lan.
Fortunately, Yu Lan had her wits about her.
The next day, Yu Lan showed up at Factory No. 2.
As she was filling out the paperwork, Ding He arrived again.
“The girl is waiting for you at the gate. Why don’t you go check it out?”
Jiang Yu replied, “Got it.”
She told Yu Lan to keep working on the forms and went outside to talk to Ding He.
“Sister Jiang Yu, will Yu Lan take me in?”
Jiang Yu shook her head. “Ding He, she’d help if she could, but she’s in no position to.”
Ding He hung her head in disappointment. “But other than you, I don’t know anyone else.”
Her intention was clear—she just wanted to tag along with them.
But Yu Lan could hardly take care of herself, let alone look after someone else.
And Jiang Yu couldn’t possibly bring her home either.
The situation felt hopeless.
At that moment, Jiang Yu remembered what Lan Raoping had said the day before.
She was willing to take Ding He in.
Yet for some reason, Jiang Yu instinctively resisted getting too involved with Ding He.
She felt a strange sense of guilt. She didn’t consider herself overly compassionate, but was she being too cold?
“Ding He, you—”
Before she could finish speaking, Lan Raoping appeared again.
“Jiang Yu, this child is here again?”
Jiang Yu sighed inwardly. It felt like fate—or maybe it was just meant to be.
Before Jiang Yu could say anything, Ding He’s pleading gaze turned toward Lan Raoping.
“I asked Sister Jiang Yu if I could stay with her, but she seems to have her hands full.”
Lan Raoping then offered, “Would you like to crash at my place for a while? I live alone—there’s plenty of room. You can stay as long as you need, until you remember where you live, and I’ll take you home.”
Ding He asked timidly, “Seriously?”
“Of course.”
And just like that, the two came to an agreement, and Ding He decided to stay with Lan Raoping.
Jiang Yu was at a loss for words. She couldn’t shake the feeling that Lan Raoping’s appearance was a little too convenient.
Or was Ding He’s timing just a little too perfect?
She hated thinking so poorly of a teenager.
"Jiang Yu, could you help me request leave from the factory? I’ll take Ding He to buy some things and move her luggage over."
Jiang Yu plastered on a smile and teased, "You still need to ask?"
"Gotta follow the rules. We’ll head off first," Lan Raoping waved.
Jiang Yu watched their retreating figures, standing still for a while.
A moment later, Ding He glanced back, beaming and waving.
"Thank you, Sister Jiang Yu!"
That smile held a clear challenge.
At that moment, Jiang Yu was certain—Ding He was sharper than she let on.
When Jiang Yu went back inside, Yu Lan’s paperwork was already processed.
She was assigned to the workshop where He Qianqian used to work, and with someone guiding her, everything went smoothly.
"Director Lin, Yu Lan has no place to stay. Can she apply for factory dormitory housing?"
"Of course. If needed, just come to me to fill out the forms."
The family housing was full up, but a dorm bed could be arranged.
Once she’d checked, Jiang Yu explained the application process to Yu Lan.
"Remember to apply early—approval will take a few days."
Yu Lan couldn’t thank her enough. "I really don’t know how else to thank you."
"Just do good work—that’s thanks enough," Jiang Yu smiled encouragingly.
Yu Lan was about to respond when someone outside called, "Yu Lan, someone’s looking for you—says she’s your sister-in-law."
Yu Lan’s face fell as she hurried out.
Not wanting trouble, Jiang Yu followed, keeping her distance and watching from afar.
Yu Lan’s sister-in-law took one look at her and started yelling, "You were supposed to go on a blind date today! What are you doing here? He waited around forever, and you didn’t even show your face—how’s that fair?"
Yu Lan replied coldly, "I never agreed—you did. You want the date? You go."
The sister-in-law was furious. "If you don’t bother coming home today, don’t ever come back!"
Jiang Yu stepped forward then. "Sister-in-law Yu, the house Yu Lan lives in belongs to her parents. Who said you could kick her out? Besides, she doesn’t even take up space at home—she sleeps in the earthquake shelter. Lucky it’s not winter, or she’d have frozen solid!"
The sister-in-law snapped, "Butt out! Don’t think being a supervisor gives you the right to meddle in my family’s business! Yu Lan, think straight—what’s she ever done for you? Did she give you money or a job?"
"She gave me a job," Yu Lan said quietly.
The sister-in-law’s rage stalled mid-breath.
She stood stunned for a long moment before her brain finally processed it.
"Wh-what did you just say?"
Yu Lan looked up at her and said firmly, "She gave me a job. I just got hired, and I’ll apply for the dorm later, so I won’t trouble you anymore, sister-in-law."
Yu Qin’s wife was floored.
She had been married to Yu Qin for so many years without ever getting a job, yet Yu Lan landed one the moment she came back— and at the Second State Cotton Mill of all places?
"You didn't get tricked, did you? Why would they give the job to you!"
Yu Lan was puzzled. "Didn’t you just say Jiang Yu wouldn’t give me a job? Now that she did, why aren’t you happy?"
Her sister-in-law’s face flushed dark red—how was she supposed to be happy?
Because she believed she was more qualified than Yu Lan.
"Sister-in-law, I’ve got to go. It’s my first day, and I still have a lot to learn."
With that, Yu Lan turned and walked away.
Yu Qin’s wife was about to call after her when she spotted Jiang Yu nearby, her face instantly putting on a fake smile.
"Oh, Jiang Yu—"
Jiang Yu ignored her and walked straight into the factory.
Furious, Yu Qin’s wife stamped her foot and swore under her breath.
"So full of herself!"
After settling Yu Lan’s job, Jiang Yu returned to her office, where Cai Xiaole broke some news to her.
Jiao Zongyao had gotten his position back.
Jiang Yu didn’t bat an eye. "Him getting his job back was bound to happen. Nothing surprising."
Cai Xiaole admired her calmness.
"But once he’s back, he’ll start bullying you again."
Jiao Zongyao didn’t just push Jiang Yu around—even Director Zheng had to kowtow to him.
If not for Qian keeping him on a leash, Jiao would’ve been even worse.
Jiang Yu brushed it off. "I wasn’t scared of him before, and I’m not now."
Once her shift was over, Jiang Yu headed home.
As soon as she walked into the compound, Xu Lihua yanked her aside.
"I heard you took someone to the factory for hiring?"
Jiang Yu had to admit, Xu Lihua’s gossip network was fast.
"Yeah, it’s all settled."
Xu Lihua gaped at her. "But I thought that spot was for Jiang Ting?"
"Aunt Xu, what are you saying? What do I have to do with Jiang Ting that I'd go begging for her to get a job?"
As if!
Xu Lihua chuckled nervously. "Then I must've misunderstood. I really thought before..."
It's caused the whole apartment complex to misunderstand.
Jiang Yu walked into the house and saw that Lin Hongxia had come back.
"Xiangyang and Jiang Ting got divorced, so Mom Lin was let out. She went through hell in there. How awful."
"How awful?" Jiang Yu scoffed. "If she's considered pitiful, then the women from Yunan must’ve lost half their lives."
From the moment Lin Hongxia did something like this, she should’ve known what was coming.
Xu Lihua thought with a sigh and shook her head.
