Chapter 199: He’s Not a Suitable Match
by 六六小可爱Chapter 199: He's Not a Suitable Match
Hearing this, Old Master Duan looked up and pondered briefly.
"With you here, Elder Lian, why would there be a need for me to step in and uphold justice?"
Elder Lian smiled smugly, narrowing his eyes. His two hands rested on the cane in front of him.
"Since that's the case, I'll decide on Zhang Juxiang's behalf then. How about asking Li Saozi to pay her three dollars?"
Zhang Juxiang felt secretly pleased, but she wore a hesitant expression.
She frowned. "Three dollars isn't enough. If I send my Xiao Shan to the hospital for a check-up, three dollars won't be enough!"
Seeing no one was speaking up for her, Li Saozi thought to ask Tong Fang for help.
Just then, Duan Yuzhen spoke, "These two children have made many mistakes and haven't changed. It's best to send them back to the village."
Li Saozi's face fell. "Yuzhen, my two children have no relatives left in the village. If I send them back, how will they survive?"
Duan Yuzhen smiled and met her gaze.
"Li Saozi, of course you'll go back with them. After much thought, once I marry Tong Fang, I'll take care of Tong Yuan, so there's no need for you. It's best if these two children go back to the village with you and you can properly educate them."
Li Saozi was taken aback. She had thought Duan Yuzhen was kind-hearted.
It turned out she had been planning this all along, intending to send them away.
In this whole compound, with so many families, no one spoke up for her, which disheartened her.
Li Saozi suddenly knelt down, holding her two children and sobbing.
"Yuzhen is right. It's our fault. I'll take the two children back to the village. As a weak, helpless woman, how can I manage with the children? Don't blame me for being heartless; I can only take you to find your father."
Gou Wa and Er Niu were frightened and cried loudly in her arms.
"Mom, Er Niu is scared. Er Niu doesn't want to find Dad."
Seeing Li Saozi in such a pitiful state, how could Tong Fang bear to send her away? Jiang Yu thought to herself.
Sure enough, the next moment, Tong Fang's voice was heard, "I'll pay the three dollars on behalf of Li Saozi. Don't send her family away."
Duan Yuzhen was too late to stop him, and Tong Fang's words had already left his mouth.
She gritted her teeth in anger. How could Tong Fang be so foolish?
Li Saozi's family had three mouths to feed. Didn't that cost money?
His salary wasn't high, yet he offered to pay compensation without thinking about his own son.
Duan Yuzhen suddenly doubted whether choosing Tong Fang was a good decision.
Old Master Duan understood that the matter between Tong Fang and Li Saozi was also a complicated situation and secretly shook his head.
Yan Wenxuan wasn't a good match, and Tong Fang wasn't much better.
But when Duan Yuzhen brought up this matter, he had remained silent.
Thinking they were all in the same compound, under the Duan family's watchful eyes, at least Yuzhen wouldn't be bullied.
Now it seems he is somewhat uncertain.
Ultimately, things turned out the opposite of what Duan Yuzhen had expected.
Tong Fang lost money, and Li Saozi's family stayed.
Duan Yuzhen had a terrible look on her face as she returned home angrily.
Lin Donghua couldn't stand Tong Fang's generosity and stepped in.
"Tong Fang, let me add my two cents. If you and Yuzhen get married, are you planning to live on your small salary to support Yuzhen, your son, and Li Saozi's family?"
Tong Fang looked hesitant. Even before marrying Duan Yuzhen, he was already struggling with his salary.
If we add one more person, wouldn't that make things even harder?
Lin Donghua thought Duan Yuzhen might be heading for trouble again.
"Yuzhen is your wife, and Tong Yuan is your son. Of course, you should support them, but why take care of these three?"
Li Saozi felt unhappy hearing this.
"Lin Donghua, Yuzhen knew about my existence before she started dating Tong Fang, right? If she minded, she could have chosen not to date him."
Lin Donghua sneered at this. She really had no shame.
"Tong Fang, is that how you feel too? If Yuzhen is unwilling, would you break up with her?"
Tong Fang was troubled and couldn't make up his mind.
He furrowed his brow. "Sister Lin, her family-in-law is gone. There's no one to take care of these two kids, so she has to keep them with her. Li Saozi is not in an easy position."
"Her hardship isn't your fault. She's not your responsibility, so why should you support her?" Lin Donghua asked patiently.
But Tong Fang, whether faking ignorance or really being naive, was dragging his feet and couldn't make a decision.
In the end, he still pitied Li Saozi's family and couldn't bring himself to be harsh.
Lin Donghua snorted and turned away, heading inside.
"Mom, if you ask me, it'd be best to cut ties between Yuzhen and Tong Fang. He's not the right match."
Before Wen Yan could say anything, Duan Yuzhen got upset.
"He's not the right match? Can you set me up with someone better, Sister?"
Lin Donghua was speechless. She wasn't lacking people to introduce, but she was worried Duan Yuzhen would reject them and end up offending people.
After the drama was over, Jiang Yu went inside to freshen up.
Seeing He Tingyue was still awake, she handed him the towel.
"Do all you men sympathize with people like Li Saozi?"
"I do, but it's not just men. Don't you feel the same way?"
"I can't do that either," He Tingyue said indifferently.
Tong Fang's way of handling things wasn't about sympathy, but his own character.
Jiang Yu loosened her hair and waited until it was almost dry before guiding him to lie down.
"Go to sleep, we've got to wake up early tomorrow."
Usually, she could sleep in once a week, but tomorrow they were going to Yunjiao Village, so no sleeping in.
He Tingyue stroked her hair. "How about you don't go tomorrow?"
Jiang Yu nestled against him. "But I really want to go."
She wanted to go and catch some silverfish too.
He Tingyue didn't say another word and held her tightly as they fell asleep.
The next day, they woke up feeling refreshed.
Jiang Yu put on a thick cotton coat. Instead of wearing the scarf He Tingyue had knitted, she wrapped herself in He Feiyan's old scarf.
The family happily got ready to head out.
Whenever Jiang Yu went on these trips, she usually came back with meat.
Xu Lihua greeted Jiang Yu with an especially warm smile. "Where is the family off to?"
"Aunt Xu, we're heading out to the countryside."
"Going fishing?" Xu Lihua immediately stood up. "If you catch any, I'm claiming two!"
Jiang Yu shook her head. "I can't promise anything."
If she promised and only brought back two fish, Xu Lihua would take them all.
"Don't be so stingy. I'm not asking for handouts like some people," Xu Lihua said pointedly, glancing at Sun's mother.
Sun's mother snorted in disdain, grabbed her washbasin, and walked into the house.
Zeng Chang stared, not wanting to look away.
Jiang Li twisted his ear forcefully, gritting her teeth. "What are you looking at?"
Zeng Chang winced. "Ow! Not looking at anything!"
