Gou Wa covered his mouth and snickered, determined to make Jiang Yu pay through the nose today, for not giving them meat!

But he didn’t know that the moment he stepped in, Black Egg had proudly raised its head, its beady black eyes fixed on him, not blinking once, ready to strike.

Unaware of this, Gou Wa wandered around the yard, only to find that the rooms inside, including the kitchen and the bathhouse, were all locked.

His face fell, thinking Jiang Yu was definitely guarding against him!

"Hmph! Then I’ll eat every last chicken of yours!"

At Jiang Yu’s coop, only two hens and two wild chickens were left, one of them given by Lin Chenghui just yesterday.

Not interested in the smaller hens, Gou Wa had his eye on Black Egg, who was big and plump.

In a flash, he reached for Black Egg’s neck.

Just in time, Black Egg flapped its wings and rose up, its sharp beak lunging for his forehead, delivering a forceful peck.

Gou Wa felt the world spin for a second, and a bump immediately popped up on his forehead.

He clutched his head, wincing in pain, wondering how a wild chicken could be so tough.

Not willing to give up, Gou Wa reached for Black Egg again.

This time, Black Egg leaped right onto his head, its claws sinking into his scalp.

"Cluck-cluck-cluck!"

"Ow! Damn bird, get off! If you don’t, I’ll pluck your feathers!"

Black Egg clucked away, standing steadily on his head, and only flapped its wings to fly down when Gou Wa reached up to grab it.

Its outstretched wings slapped Gou Wa’s face a few times, filling his mouth with chicken feathers.

"Ptoo, ptoo, ptoo! Damn bird, stinky bird! I’ll roast you today!"

"Cluck-cluck-cluck!" You come up here!

Seeing Black Egg perched on the wall, its rear end turned towards him, Gou Wa, though knowing it was just a chicken, felt utterly provoked.

Furious, Gou Wa shouted, "Come down if you dare!"

"Cluck-cluck-cluck!" You come up!

Gou Wa’s eyes shifted. There were other chickens in the coop; he didn’t have to have Black Egg.

He turned and reached for the two hens, but before his hand even got inside, Black Egg jumped down and pecked his head several times in quick succession.

Outside, Er Niu, who was keeping watch, heard the commotion and peeked inside curiously.

What she saw made her gasp in shock!

"Brother!" Er Niu whispered loudly.

Before Gou Wa could respond, a voice behind her spoke up.

"Er Niu, what are you doing at the southern room's door?" It was Duan Yuzhen.

Er Niu's entire body stiffened, and goosebumps broke out on the back of her neck.

Duan Yuzhen walked over and, clearly knowing the answer, asked, "Er Niu, what are you doing here? Where's your brother?"

Er Niu replied timidly, "I don't know!"

She stood in the doorway, trying to block Duan Yuzhen's view.

But because she was small, Duan Yuzhen easily saw Dog Wa in the room, battling wits with Black Egg.

Duan Yuzhen smirked coldly and deliberately raised her voice, "Dog Wa, what are you doing here? It's only been a few days, and you're already out stealing again!"

Dog Wa panicked, no longer bothering with Black Egg, and hurriedly ran out of the south room.

However, Duan Yuzhen was standing right in the doorway, blocking his escape.

Xu Lihua came out because of the noise and saw Duan Yuzhen grabbing Dog Wa.

"What's all this ruckus?"

Duan Yuzhen spoke up, "Aunt Xu, I caught Dog Wa stealing things!"

Er Niu immediately defended him, "My brother didn't steal anything!"

"Then what were you doing inside?" Duan Yuzhen questioned.

Er Niu avoided eye contact and lowered her head, too scared to speak.

Xu Lihua exclaimed, "This is bad! He was disciplined just the other day, and now he's stealing again! We can't have a kid like that in our courtyard!"

"Yuzhen, call your grandfather. If we don't send these two children away, we won't be able to rest peacefully," Dog Wa's mother suggested.

Jiang Ting stayed quiet, and when she saw that Dog Wa had stolen from Jiang Yu's house, she was secretly pleased.

At that moment, Li Saozi walked in, saw Dog Wa's injuries, and assumed Duan Yuzhen had caused them.

"How dare you hit my son!"

She screamed without stopping to listen and lunged at Duan Yuzhen. She grabbed her head and slapped her several times.

Dog Wa shouted from the side, "Mom! Hit her! Keep hitting her!"

Seeing this, Xu Lihua shouted, "Donghua! Donghua, come quick! Your sister-in-law's getting beaten!"

Lin Donghua stormed out of the room, broom in hand, and when she saw Duan Yuzhen getting beaten badly, she swung the broom at Li Saozi.

Outmatched, Li Saozi let go of Duan Yuzhen and turned to face Lin Donghua.

Duan Yuzhen, her face covered, hid the hatred in her eyes. She definitely wasn't going to let those slaps go unanswered.

"Sister-in-law, don't argue with her. Go call Grandfather. This matter isn't over today!"

Lin Donghua gave a cold snort, dropped the broom, and went to get Old Master Duan.

Li Saozi, seeing this, sat down on the ground, kicked her legs, and started throwing a tantrum.

Duan Yuzhen barked, "Crying won't do you any good! Ask everyone, did I lay a hand on your dog?"

Xu Lihua, surprisingly eager, chimed in, "Your son went to the south house to steal things and got into a fight with Black Egg. Yuzhen caught him and didn’t lay a hand on him. Black Egg can be vicious. If Jiang Yu wasn't home, none of us would dare approach the south house!"

Li Saozi's sharp cries suddenly halted as she stared at her in a daze.

So, did she hit the wrong person?

A pang of regret hit Li Saozi. Today was not looking good.

Her thoughts spun. Dog stealing was bad enough, but getting caught by Duan Yuzhen—how hateful!

With a heavy heart, Li Saozi slapped the dog's buttocks.

"I told you not to steal things, not to learn bad habits!"

Sun Muqin said lightly, "Li Suqin, don't hit him. There's plenty of flesh on the buttocks; it won't hurt much."

Li Saozi's hand paused, her fingers curling.

She couldn't bear to hit him anywhere else.

Seeing Lin Donghua calling Old Master Duan out, Li Saozi had no choice but to slap the dog's face.

The sharp sounds rang out in the courtyard.

Given her behavior, Old Master Duan couldn't possibly send her away.

"Forget it, just be more cautious next time. This is the last time. If the dog does something bad again, I won't give another chance."

Though hatred rose in her heart, Li Saozi nodded along. "I'll make sure he behaves."

When she returned home with the two children, her anger hadn't faded, her face still dark and brooding.

"Er Niu, why did your brother go to steal things from the south house? You explain."

Er Niu bit her lip, tears falling.

"The gate to the south house yard wasn't locked."

Li Saozi clenched her teeth. "How did you know the gate was unlocked?"

Er Niu looked up timidly. "Auntie Duan came to tell me."

Furious, Li Saozi realized it all led back to Duan Yuzhen.

"Duan Yuzhen, well played! She just can't stand us! You all better behave recently and don't give her any more reasons to catch you. If we really get kicked out, everything will be ruined!"
