Chapter 638 Your Complaint Cannot Be Accepted

With that, Jiang Yu turned and left.
No use wasting breath on them.
The other officer quickly called out, "Officer Jiang, aren’t you filing a report?"
Jiang Yu scoffed. "It’s not that I’m not filing a report—I just don’t trust you people. I’m going to the police station to file a complaint against you."
Hearing the word "complaint," Zeng Anping didn’t get angry—instead, he smirked, unfazed.
"Chang, let her do what she wants. I’ll just put in a word with my uncle."
Jiang Yu tsked, her smile cold.
"So this officer has pull, huh? You think you can get away with anything because someone’s got your back?"
The officer called Chang was caught in the middle, torn.
Jiang Yu had hit the nail on the head—Zeng Anping indeed had pull, and nobody at the precinct messed with him.
This wasn’t the first time he’d pulled this kind of guilt-tripping.
Normally, Chang would have ignored it.
But Jiang Yu clearly wasn’t someone to mess with.
With a snort, Jiang Yu turned and went downstairs, hopping on her bike and speeding off.
From the window, Chang watched her leave; he frowned worriedly.
"Anping, she is old, but look at the mess she made in that house. Letting this go doesn’t feel right."
Old Lady Zhao scrambled to her feet, tossing aside the clothes in her hands as she protested her innocence.
"I didn’t steal anything! I just took a few clothes! At my age, I just wanted to pick up a couple of things to wear—was it really necessary to call the police? Kids these days got no heart!"
Zeng Anping nodded. "Chang, it’s just a few clothes. Not even worth the paperwork. That Jiang Yu was blowing things out of proportion. Let’s just drop it and go."
Chang hesitated. "But—"
Zeng Anping gave him an icy look. "But what? Do I need to repeat myself?"
Chang fell silent and followed him out.
Meanwhile, Jiang Yu went straight to the nearby police station to file another report.
The desk sergeant recognized her. "Didn’t Chang already take someone over there?"
Jiang Yu replied calmly, "My home was robbed, and they told me to cut slack because the thief was some old lady. They refused to take action and covered for her."
The officer checked the records and, seeing Zeng Anping’s name, thought ‘here we go again’—this was nothing new.
"Officer Jiang, our officers follow procedure. Since they’ve already responded, there’s no need to waste more manpower. Just do what they said."
Zeng Anping was the station chief’s nephew—he wasn’t gonna rock the boat.
Jiang Yu gave a humorless laugh. "Then I’ll report him for not doing his job."
The man repeated the same line: "Our officers strictly follow protocol, and there are no violations. We can't process your complaint."
Jiang Yu raised an eyebrow. "Fine."
She didn’t press him further and turned to leave.
There were plenty of ways to seek justice—it didn’t have to be here.
She rode her bike around the neighborhood for a while before heading to find Lin Chenghui.
After being transferred to the police department, he had performed exceptionally well, racking up several commendations. He was now the head of CID.
She didn’t go to the bureau to look for him but instead stopped by to see Wang Yunshan.
Wang Yunshan’s daughter, Niu Niu, had already started taking her first steps, chubby and downright adorable.
When Jiang Yu arrived, Wang Yunshan was holding Niu Niu downstairs, chatting with neighbors.
When she saw Jiang Yu, her eyes lit up.
"What brings you by today?"
Jiang Yu said, "It’s my day off. Actually, I came to see Hui Zi, but thought I’d drop by to see you too."
Wang Yunshan tutted. "You're terrible. And here I was, thinking of you."
Jiang Yu pinched the plump flesh of her cheek. Wang Yunshan used to be painfully thin, but since marrying Lin Chenghui, she had put on some healthy weight.
Her complexion had improved, and she was glowing.
"Thinking of me for what?"
Wang Yunshan giggled. "Thinking of Ning Ning’s formula. We’re out of formula coupons."
Jiang Yu quickly replied, "Just have Hui Zi come by and say the word—grab what you need. Since when have you become so polite?"
Lai Liuzi and his crew often traveled to Inner Mongolia, so milk powder was never in short supply.
"It’s not about politeness. He’s been so busy lately, hardly ever home." Though she complained, there was more fondness than resentment in her tone.
Jiang Yu said, "Bad timing then."
Wang Yunshan squeezed her hand. "Don't be silly. Just say the word and we're there."
So Jiang Yu told her about Old Lady Zhao.
"This is a matter for the precinct. Bringing it straight to Hui Zi might not be ideal. But this Ceng Anping—his backer is probably either the station chief or the deputy chief. He basically owns the place."
Without help, the matter would likely be dropped.
Wang Yunshan handed Niu Niu to her. "Let me call him. Wait here."
A short while later, she returned.
With a smile, she said, "All set."
Jiang Yu grinned. "You're really leaning into this captain's wife thing now."
Wang Yunshan rolled her eyes. "What captain’s wife? I’m just a regular Jane."
Jiang Yu held her daughter Niu Niu and was playing with her for a while, chatting with Wang Yunshan.
It had been a while since they last met, and it seemed they had a ton to catch up on.
When the topic turned to her family back home, Wang Yunshan’s face fell a little.
“I’ve heard about it. Ah Ye’s mountain chicken farm—it was my mom who reported it.”
She felt guilty toward Jiang Ye and had been meaning to apologize to Jiang Yu.
Jiang Yu waved it off with a smile. “That’s not on you. It wasn’t your doing. Anyway, last year’s application for the collective sideline (a community-run business) was approved. Now that the weather’s warming up, Uncle He should be getting chicks and ducklings, right?”
Wang Yunshan had recently visited the countryside and heard some news.
“They’re haggling over prices with the breeders. If the price is right, they’ll seal the deal.”
Jiang Yu suddenly asked, “Have you seen Wang Pandi lately? When I gave birth to Ning Ning, there was another new mom named Mao Huihui, who seemed to have some connection with Lai Zhijie.”
Wang Yunshan was also aware of the matter and spoke more bluntly than Jiang Yu.
“I know. Lai Zhijie was stepping out, saying Wang Pandi couldn’t have children, so he went out and found another woman to bear his child. At first, Mao Huihui didn’t even know he was married when she got involved with him. Later, somehow, Lai Zhijie convinced her to keep the baby.”
But after giving birth, Mao Huihui changed her mind and refused to let Wang Pandi raise the child.
“What happened afterward?”
Wang Yunshan scoffed. “She insisted Wang Pandi divorce Lai Zhijie. For the sake of the child, Lai Zhijie actually considered it. But Wang Pandi isn’t the type to roll over and take it—she reported them for illicit relations, got compensation, divorced Lai Zhijie, and washed her hands of him.”
Jiang Yu didn’t comment. It sounded exactly like Wang Pandi’s style.
“What about her now?”
Wang Yunshan curled her lip. “After the divorce, she tried to freeload at my place. I kicked her out.”
Wang Pandi had shown up in the middle of the night with her luggage, counting on Wang Yunshan’s soft-heartedness to let her stay.
She promised it would only be for one night, but the next morning, she intercepted Lin Chenghui as he was leaving, batting her eyelashes and begging her brother-in-law to let her stay.
Lin Chenghui pretended not to understand her intentions and politely refused, trying to let her save face.
But Wang Pandi took it as encouragement and stubbornly lingered until evening, attempting to throw herself at Lin Chenghui.
Wang Yunshan caught her, gave her two good slaps, and threw her out of the house.
“After that, she went back to Nanhe Village and even complained to my mom, saying I hit her. Isn’t that ridiculous? Two slaps—that’s nothing.”
Auntie Du doted on Wang Pandi the most and actually came over to curse at Wang Yunshan, practically trying to drag her through the mud.
Wang Yunshan argued with her and didn’t even let Auntie Du inside. Eventually, she slunk away in defeat.
“I’m not putting up with her. She’s insane.”
Now, Wang Pandi was back to relying on that family. If she bothered to send gifts during the holidays, that was already generous.
Jiang Yu quietly approved. “That’s exactly how you should handle it.”
She checked the time and said, “I should go check on how my great-aunt’s doing. I’d better get going. I’ll bring the formula over tomorrow.”
