Chapter 466 You Won’t Understand Even If I Tell You
by 六六小可爱**Chapter 466: You Wouldn’t Get It Even If We Explained**
After finishing grocery shopping with He Tingyue, Jiang Yu was about to head home when she ran into He Qianqian.
He Qianqian was being pestered by He Guangcai, though Jiang Yu couldn’t hear what they were talking about. Still, she could tell He Qianqian was annoyed.
From afar, Jiang Yu called out, “Qianqian!”
When He Guangcai saw her, his face fell, and he bolted without a word.
He Qianqian finally relaxed and jogged over to Jiang Yu.
“Sis Jiang Yu.”
“What did your big brother want?” Jiang Yu glanced at He Guangcai’s retreating figure.
He Qianqian scowled. “My parents have made up their minds not to acknowledge him anymore, and he wants me to put in a good word for him.”
Ever since the family split, He Guangcai and Chen Xiuying had been struggling more and more.
Now, He Guangcai missed the old days, filled with regret. He kept wishing he could go back to how things were before—in other words, he wanted the family back together.
But it wasn’t that simple. He Youfu and Liu Junmei couldn’t stand him now, thinking he was nothing but bad luck. They didn’t even want to look at him, let alone live under the same roof again.
“I’m sick of them too—they keep finding ways to bother me. And Zhang Chunhua’s gone nuts, claiming we from Nanhe Village stole her treasure.”
Since she rarely got the chance to talk to Jiang Yu, He Qianqian decided to walk home with her and chat.
Jiang Yu raised an eyebrow. “Treasure?”
“Yeah, Zhang Chunhua runs up to our back mountain every day saying there’s buried treasure. She’s caused such a fuss that people from other villages have started coming to dig for it.”
He Youfu was furious. His family had lived in Nanhe Village for generations—if there really was treasure, wouldn’t they have known?
No matter what he said, no one believed him.
Even some villagers had joined the treasure hunt.
“Jiang Yu, do you think there really is treasure on our mountain? That Zhang Chunhua’s gone nuts—one minute she says there’s treasure, the next she accuses us of stealing her treasure.”
Jiang Yu chuckled. “Maybe there was.”
He Qianqian’s eyes lit up. “Should I go look for it too?”
Jiang Yu tapped her on the head. “Don’t be silly—don’t you have work?”
He Qianqian rubbed her head. “If I find treasure, I might never have to work again.”
But she wasn’t exactly lucky—she’d never even picked up spare change off the street, let alone treasure.
“Jiang Yu, my parents always say you’re lucky. Wanna go treasure hunting with me?”
Jiang Yu eyed her hopeful look, debating whether to tell her that there was no more treasure left on the mountain.
“You won’t find treasure,” she said, “but maybe we can find some wild eggs. Want to try?”
“Wild eggs are better than nothing—at least it’s food.”
He Qianqian tugged her sleeve and whined, “Sister Jiang Yu, come with me. It’s not cold anymore, and it’ll be nice to take a walk—think of it as a spring outing. I’ll even find buried treasure!”
Jiang Yu glanced at He Tingyue. “Are you going?”
Though they had caught a wild boar last time, she didn’t really have fun.
But if He Tingyue didn’t go, she definitely wouldn’t either.
To be honest, running into Sun Biao on the mountain last time had really shaken her up.
He Tingyue saw that she was uneasy and nodded.
“It’s good to go out for a walk.”
Taking Jiang Yu back to the mountain might help—she shouldn’t associate it with that incident forever.
He Qianqian was thrilled, bouncing out the door like she’d already found gold.
She’d just left when Yuan Jiayin showed up.
Seeing He Tingyue at home, she paused briefly before acting normal and walking in.
“Jiang Yu, my uncle gave me some pastries from Shunlinzhai.”
Jiang Yu rested her chin in her hand. “Which uncle?”
Yuan Jiayin hesitated, giving an awkward laugh.
“You know which one… only the one…”
“He Jundao, right?” Jiang Yu cut in flatly.
At the name, He Tingyue’s face darkened on the spot.
“He Jundao? Did he come to see you?”
Jiang Yu shook her head. “No, Chu Yunmei came instead. She spouted nonsense, and I ignored her.”
Yuan Jiayin flinched, wishing she'd never agreed to play delivery girl.
She had only learned recently that He Jundao was actually He Tingyue’s real uncle.
She had never made the connection before.
He Tingyue said, “Just ignore them from now on.”
Jiang Yu quickly nodded. “I know.”
Yuan Jiayin suddenly felt like the pastries in her hands weighed a ton—it seemed she wouldn’t be able to give them away after all.
“Jiang Yu, forget it then. I’ll just take them back.”
Jiang Yu cut in firmly, “From now on, don’t play messenger for your uncle.”
“Alright, I understand.”
She didn’t know what had happened between He Jundao and He Tingyue, but she knew better than to ask.
If she opened her mouth without knowing anything, she’d only overstep her bounds.
Before they knew it, the day off arrived, and He Tingyue finally had a whole day to relax.
Trips to Nanhe Village usually took all day, so He Tingyue had prepared enough supplies.
He Feiyan and her two younger siblings wanted to come along too, but Jiang Yu refused.
"You kids stay home and behave. I’ll take you next time."
With that said, they set off for the countryside.
Xu Lihua saw them getting ready and asked, "Jiang Yu, where are you headed this time?"
"Just going out to the countryside."
Xu Lihua hurried over and asked, "Are you going treasure hunting?"
Jiang Yu gave her a sidelong glance. "Aunt Xu, you've heard about that too?"
"Zhang Chunhua was going on about how Sun Biao buried treasure on your back mountain."
Jiang Yu shrugged. "I wouldn’t know. We’re just going hunting—maybe gather some wild eggs if we’re lucky."
Xu Lihua said, "You’ve got the luck. Keep an eye out—you might just hit paydirt."
Jiang Yu chuckled. "Sure thing. If I do, I’ll share some with you."
Little did they know, the treasures on the mountain had already been unearthed by her.
If she could strike gold every time she went up there, her luck would be downright miraculous.
Jiang Ting sat under the eaves listening to their conversation.
Only after Jiang Yu left did she scoff.
"At a time like this, she still has the mood to go out and have fun."
She counted the time—the fire would break out tomorrow night.
He Tingyue might not live to see tomorrow. Let’s see if Jiang Yu can still laugh then.
Xu Lihua thought that was an odd thing to say.
"What's wrong with having fun now? Jiang Ting, you've been acting awful strange lately."
Jiang Ting curled her lip and stood up to go inside.
"Who’s acting strange? You wouldn't understand even if I told you. You'll see soon enough."
She hadn’t even been completely straightforward with Fu Xiangyang—no way would she let the cat out of the bag with them.
Even if she did, they probably wouldn’t believe her anyway.
Old Lady Sun watched her go inside and whispered to Xu Lihua, "She really has been acting weird lately. Last time, I heard her talking about making Fu Xiangyang get recognition. Mrs. Lin must be losing her marbles to actually believe her."
In recent days, they’d been acting as if Fu Xiangyang had already gotten recognition and moved up in the world.
Xu Lihua was stunned. "Daydreaming? Out of the blue, what chance does he have to get recognized?"
Old Lady Sun shook her head. "How should I know?"
