Chapter 599 He Must Be Rich
by 六六小可爱Chapter 599 He’s Bound to Have Money
Auntie Du looked at Jiang Yu's cold-hearted attitude, as if seeing Wang Yunshan.
After raising her for so many years, it only made her hate us.
No, Wang Yunshan was even more ruthless than Jiang Yu—she never gave any support money for us, let alone holiday offerings.
The more she thought about it, the more hatred swelled in her heart.
She pulled Wang Meili aside and whispered, "Jiang Yu has got too big for her britches now—you can't provoke her. But don’t you still have another son?"
Wang Meili froze. "You mean Jiang Ye?"
"Exactly! Didn’t he say he was an apprentice at a repair shop? Even as an apprentice, he should be getting pay!"
Wang Meili mumbled, "He keeps his distance from us."
She had considered targeting Jiang Ye before but was scolded by Jiang Yonghua.
Jiang Ye wasn’t a child she raised—why would he willingly give her money?
"Not close? So what? He still came from your womb. Listen to me—go find him. He must have money."
Auntie Du’s confident tone got Wang Meili curious.
"How do you know he has money?"
Auntie Du lowered her voice. "You know that chicken farm up in the mountains, right?"
Wang Meili gave her a sideways glance. "I heard it was you who reported it?"
"I did report it, but nothing came of it, did it?"
Auntie Du still felt regretful. If she weren’t afraid of Jiang Yu’s retaliation, she would’ve spilled the beans.
"I’ll lay it out for you—that chicken farm belongs to Jiang Ye! Hard to believe, isn’t it? I never would’ve guessed—Jiang Ye seemed so honest."
Wang Meili was shocked. No matter what, she couldn’t believe Jiang Ye would have the guts to pull this!
"Are you sure? It’s really Jiang Ye’s doing?"
Auntie Du glanced at Jiang Yu, who had already walked far away, her face full of disdain.
"You think Jiang Yu is being so generous out of the goodness of her heart, forking over a thousand kuai to our village? She must be trying to bribe the team leader to cover for her brother. That chicken farm—it might sound all official calling it a collective sideline, but in the end, the money won’t end up in our pockets. It’ll all go to the team leader and Jiang Yu."
Auntie Du curled her lip. "That’s why I kicked up a fuss. Later, we’ll be the ones slaving away, working ourselves half to death—what good will we get out of it?"
Wang Meili listened and actually saw the logic in it.
"But if I just go ask Jiang Ye for money, he definitely won’t give it to me."
Auntie Du scoffed. "If he won’t give it, then drop the act. It’s not like he genuinely wants to acknowledge you anyway. If he refuses, just report him for speculation—see if he ponies up the cash then!"
Wang Meili hesitated. She knew how Jiang Yu operated—if she really reported Jiang Ye, this daughter might cut her off too.
"We’re all family. If this blows up, my old man will read me the riot act."
Jiang Yonghua was all about saving face—he definitely wouldn’t agree.
"Hmph, do you really expect both sons to stay by your side? You gotta pick one—even if you want both, Yang Cuilan won’t agree."
If both sons were to support Wang Meili in her old age, Yang Cuilan would get nothing and would surely kick up a fuss.
"Think it over carefully. I’ve already given you the solution."
Wang Meili drifted into thought, her mind wrestling with doubt.
Meanwhile, Jiang Yu left Nanhe Village and returned to the city, heading straight to find Jiang Ye.
He was no longer an apprentice—he had earned his way to a full-time position and had gained some reputation in the repair shop.
It was rare for her to visit, and when she brought up the chicken farm, Jiang Ye brushed it off.
"Forget about it. I’d already considered shutting it down—just never did."
He’d already made enough money anyway; all he regretted was that He Xing’s family would lose their income.
Jiang Yu said, "I mentioned it to Uncle He, suggesting they turn the chicken farm into a community sideline. If it works out, your efforts won’t have been in vain."
Jiang Ye wasn’t particularly concerned about Nanhe Village.
Yang Cuilan raised him cold; he cared about few people.
"Ah Ye, how much have you saved up?"
Jiang Ye had kept track. "Just under three grand."
It was a considerable sum.
Mostly because he lived cheap, eating and lodging at the repair shop, hardly spent a thing.
Now that he was a full-fledged mechanic, he could even pick up side gigs.
"I’ve asked your brother-in-law to look into places for sale. Have you ever thought about buying a place?"
They could figure out transferring his household registration later.
Jiang Ye was genuinely interested. "Where?"
"East or West City."
Jiang Ye hesitated. "Not cheap, right?"
"Not cheap, but we can take our time. A smaller place would do for now. If needed, I can pitch in some."
Jiang Ye shook his head. "Don’t worry about it. If I have enough, I’ll buy. If not, I’ll keep saving."
Jiang Yu might be capable, but her money was hard-earned.
It’s not right for a married woman to keep supporting her younger brother.
Jiang Yu chuckled and tweaked his ear. "Since when do you keep me at arm’s length?"
Jiang Ye pursed his lips, cheeks flushing.
"It’s not about distance. I can earn my own way. If it were a small amount, I wouldn’t argue."
Jiang Yu didn’t push further, shifting the topic with a smile. "If you have time, don’t just chase cash. Review your textbooks—don’t slack on your studies."
Jiang Ye quickly grasped the implied meaning behind Jiang Yu's words.
He didn’t ask further, simply nodding.
"Sis, I understand."
"There’s one more thing, related to He Xing. Her grandmother isn't doing well. Have you visited her?"
Jiang Ye looked up in surprise. "I don’t go back often, so I didn’t know."
He Xing’s nature was to only share the good, never the bad.
Afraid of burdening him, she kept him in the dark about most things.
"When did this happen? Has she been to the hospital?"
Jiang Yu shook her head. "The old woman’s stubborn and refused to go. She must know she’s dying. She entrusted He Xing to me and told me something else."
"What is it?"
"He Xing isn’t her biological granddaughter—she took her in. I was wondering whether to file a police report. Maybe there might be police records."
If He Xing had been abducted by traffickers or accidentally lost by her family, they would have surely filed a report.
Having lived in Nanhe Village for so many years, Jiang Ye had never known this secret existed.
He felt conflicted. Blind Granny had always cherished He Xing.
But no matter how much she loved her, given their situation, He Xing had it rough.
"Sis, go to the police. What if He Xing’s family is still waiting for her to come home?"
Jiang Yu thought the same. "I haven’t mentioned this to He Xing yet. I need her consent first.
My idea is, if anything happens to Granny, I’ll get He Xing set up with a job in the city."
That way, even if He Xing reunites with her family and they treat her poorly, she’ll have an out.
"I’ll take leave and go back tomorrow. You don’t have to come—no point in both of us going." Jiang Yu shook her head. "I’ll go with you. There are things a man wouldn’t put right. It’ll be better if I’m there, and He Xing will be more comfortable too."
