Chapter 481 Seamless Connection
by 六六小可爱**Chapter 481: Seamless Handoff**
Jiang Yu glanced at He Qianqian and patted her shoulder.
"Work hard. If anything comes up, go to Department Head Miao—she’s reasonable and will back you up."
He Qianqian nodded eagerly. "Thank you, Sister Jiang Yu!"
Miao Shilan gave a wry smile. "You’re really afraid she’ll get picked on."
"Department Head Miao, don’t forget where the money for your imported synthetic fibers came from. Without Qianqian, the factory would still be struggling financially." Jiang Yu made her point bluntly.
Miao Shilan let out a resigned sigh. "I know. I’ll look out for her and make sure she doesn’t get pushed around, okay?"
Jiang Yu seemed satisfied and turned to leave the office.
Just as she reached the door, she looked back and said, "Department Head Miao, I don’t have much patience. This is already Qian Wei’s third strike—there won’t be another."
Miao Shilan nodded, taking note of her words.
"I know you hold grudges. I’ll rein them in."
Jiang Yu waved and closed the door behind her.
She had no intention of going back to her office—after all, she’d already taken leave and could leave anytime.
As she walked downstairs and passed by the warehouse entrance, she heard Qian Wei’s voice.
She rubbed her temples, thinking that she and Qian Wei really had a weird connection.
Looking inside, she was surprised to see Wei Nan there too.
"Ugh… She’s just unbearable! When are you going to get her transferred out of publicity? If you were the head, I wouldn’t be getting treated like this!"
Wei Nan gently patted her head, his voice laced with worry. "That might be difficult. She’s pulled her weight before, and management thinks highly of her—I can’t just ease her out."
Qian Wei shot him a resentful look. "So you’re just going to let her walk all over me?"
Wei Nan drew her into a hug, his tone soft. "Of course not. You have no idea how much it worries me to see you like this."
Caught off guard by the sudden gesture, Qian Wei flushed red and shyly pushed him away.
But the fresh, woodsy scent of him only made her like him more.
Fidgeting awkwardly, Wei Nan offered an apologetic smile. "Sorry—I couldn’t help myself."
Qian Wei stood flustered, biting her lip.
"So… are we… dating now?"
Wei Nan hesitated, then grimaced as he shook his head.
"Qian Wei, I’m so much older than you. I can’t be with you."
Her eyes brimmed with tears. "But we like each other. Why can’t we? I’ll talk my parents around. You’re such a catch—they won’t say no."
Still, Wei Nan shook his head, his expression heartbroken.
"You’re still young—you’ll find someone better than me."
Qian Wei, shedding her earlier shyness, threw her arms around him.
"No! I only want you. No matter how handsome or young other guys are, I don’t want them—I only like you!"
Wei Nan couldn’t hold back anymore and wrapped his arms around her.
"I feel exactly the same, but I really can't hold you back. I'm sorry."
The two lovers, forced apart, held each other and cried for a long time.
Until Wei Nan finally pulled away.
"Vivi, you should go back first. If we're both gone too long, folks might start wondering."
Heartbroken, Qian Wei left the warehouse.
Jiang Yu quickly hid to the side, watching Qian Wei walk away. Just as she was about to step out, she noticed another suspicious figure slipping into the warehouse.
Jiang Yu froze, then quietly peeked through the crack in the door.
This person had also come for Wei Nan—like clockwork.
"I thought you'd forgotten about me!"
This woman was more forward than Qian Wei, flinging herself at Wei Nan.
Judging from Wei Nan’s reaction, this wasn’t their first encounter.
Jiang Yu thought to herself—no wonder he's still single.
"Silly, I just didn’t want to drag your name through the mud," Wei Nan coaxed.
The woman shot back, "I’m a widow with a child. What do I care about reputation? Whether I find a man or not, people will gossip behind my back anyway."
Before long, the two were locked in a passionate kiss.
Jiang Yu’s eyes widened. Was this really for her eyes?
Fortunately, they stopped at kissing. Soon after, the woman left, already setting up a next meeting with Wei Nan.
Just as Jiang Yu thought it was over, another woman arrived.
Jiang Yu recognized her—Zou Yan, a workshop team leader in her forties, married with children.
Her kids were teenagers now, yet she still carried a seductive charm.
Her hourglass figure—even earned Jiang Yu’s quiet appreciation.
"You jerk, finally remembered me?"
Wei Nan wrapped an arm around her waist and grinned slyly.
"I could forget anyone but you."
Jiang Yu had once seen Zou Yan with her husband—their relationship was distant, nothing like the heated looks they exchanged now.
"Haven’t you got a new fling lately? That girl from finance seems head over heels for you."
Wei Nan chuckled. "She’s just a naive kid who doesn’t know anything. How could she compare to the fun of being with Sister Yan?"
Zou Yan teased, “Then when are you going to invite me to your place?”
Wei Nan didn’t live in the family compound; he had his own separate apartment.
His parents weren’t living with him—only his married sister.
Anyone who saw his situation would find him desirable.
“If you want, come over next day off. I’ve got a surprise for you.”
“What surprise?”
Wei Nan toyed with a strand of her hair. “If you knew in advance, how could it be called a surprise?”
Zou Yan kissed him. “Then I’ll look forward to it.”
Jiang Yu stood still, waiting for Zou Yan to leave.
It suddenly occurred to her—Wei Nan had also scheduled a meeting with that widow for the same next day off.
Damn, with only one day off, his time management was impeccable.
That aside, Jiang Yu had assumed Zou Yan would at least be the last.
But then another person arrived—this time, a young man.
As he drew closer, he looked about twenty, fair and gentle-looking, with a shy, boyish air.
Jiang Yu blinked. “…Well then.”
This was getting juicier.
She peeked around, trying to get a better angle.
But this young man was much more reserved, speaking softly, so she couldn’t hear what they were saying.
After watching for a while, Jiang Yu got bored and turned to leave.
On her way back, she kept thinking to herself—Wei Nan was swinging both ways.
She had just exited Factory No. 2 and reached the gate when she saw a car pull up.
Jiang Yu raised an eyebrow. Not many people had cars back then.
The woman wore a form-fitting cheongsam, her hair curled, lips painted with bold red lipstick.
She looked straight out of a fashion magazine—just like the models in the magazines Qin Yunan had sent her.
But here in Beicheng, it was pretty daring.
“Excuse me, I’m looking for Wei Nan from the publicity department. Can you let me in?”
Jiang Yu froze, a thought crossing her mind.
Soon, the woman continued, “I’m Wei Nan’s sister.”
The guard said, “You’ll need to sign in.”
Jiang Yu hid a smirk. This was Wei Xiuru, He Tingyue’s stepmother.
"Hey there, are you looking for Wei Nan?" she asked, approaching.
Wei Xiuru studied Jiang Yu carefully. "You know him?"
Jiang Yu smiled. "Deputy Section Chief Wei from the Propaganda Department? He's pretty popular at our Second Factory. I just saw him—let me take you there."
A flicker of disdain passed through Wei Xiuru’s eyes. She assumed Jiang Yu had a crush on Wei Nan and was using this as an excuse to talk to her.
No surprise—her brother had always been that impressive.
Wei Nan’s last girlfriend had even killed herself trying to force him to marry her. Talk about delusional.
"Alright, lead the way," Wei Xiuru said.
Jiang Yu led her toward the warehouse but stopped before getting too close.
"I won't go any further. Deputy Section Chief Wei is right there. I saw him talking to someone earlier—I didn’t wanna interrupt."
Wei Xiuru was confused. If Jiang Yu wanted to get close to Wei Nan, she should have taken the opportunity to bring her straight to him.
Was she playing hard to get?
"Then thank you. I’ll go by myself." She wasn’t buying it.
Jiang Yu didn’t seem bothered and turned to leave.
Wei Xiuru narrowed her eyes slightly. Had she read her wrong?
She shrugged it off and walked toward the warehouse.
Before going inside, she saw two people through the window.
One was clearly Wei Nan, while the other was obviously a man, his face obscured.
Wei Xiuru squinted. Even if they were talking, they should keep a safe distance—they were way too close.
Wei Nan was tall, towering half a head over the other man.
He was leaning down slightly, one hand tilting the man’s chin up.
From where Wei Xiuru stood, it looked like he was cradling his face.
At that distance, their breaths mingled—the tension between them was obvious.
Her breathing quickened, her perfectly manicured nails digging into her palms.
"Wei Nan!"
Her sharp shout sent the pair scrambling apart like startled birds.
The man’s face turned bright red.
Wei Xiuru marched in, glaring.
"What are you doing?"
Wei Nan chuckled. "Jeez, sis, you scared him."
Wei Xiuru snorted coldly. "Get lost."
The man was shaking like a leaf, not even having time to say hello before hightailing it out of there.
Wei Xiuru glared coldly at Wei Nan. "Don't tell me you've got a thing for him too!"
"He is quite adorable, isn't he?"
"Wei Nan!" Wei Xiuru snapped sharply. "Don't forget, you're the last male heir of the Wei family!"
Wei Nan looked impatient. "I'm already forty. Can you back off already?"
Wei Xiuru suppressed her anger. "Fine, I won't interfere. But since you transferred to the second factory, have you made any progress? Or have you just been busy dating?"
Wei Nan pinched the bridge of his nose. "Jiang Yu isn't as easy to deal with as you think."
"I don't need you to make an enemy of her. You just need to persuade her to join our side and ensure He Tingyue severs all ties with the He family! I want those two illegitimate brats outside to never have a chance to return!"
Wei Nan scoffed. "Sis, who are you calling illegitimate brats?"
Wei Xiuru's eyes blazed with fury. "You!"
"Alright, don't get angry. You're already in your forties and still can't control your temper. No wonder your husband can't stand being home—who wants to see that bitter face of yours?"
He steered Wei Xiuru toward the door, his tone coaxing. "I've got Jiang Yu handled. Relax."
