Chapter 435 You’re So Scheming!
by 六六小可爱Chapter 435: You’re Downright Devious!
Wang Moli had no choice. To avoid suspicion falling on herself, she resorted to shifting the blame onto someone else.
By directing everyone’s suspicion toward Jiang Yu, she could wash her hands of it.
It was just a shame—she wasn’t sure if today’s mixer could proceed smoothly anymore.
Without her performance opportunity, how could she make an impression on Director Ding?
The moment she spoke, Wu Jingyi didn’t even think—anger instantly clouded her judgment.
Deep down, she too suspected Jiang Yu.
Honestly, in her mind, Jiang Yu was the only one who’d actually do something like this.
“So that’s why you made that bet with me, so sure I wouldn’t get the role of Lu Xiaoqin—you’ve been plotting against me from the very beginning!”
The crowd’s eyes turned to Jiang Yu, skeptical yet unsure.
Most actually thought Jiang Yu had no reason to do such a thing.
She was the one who wrote the script—Director Lan and Ding Jianan both treated her with respect.
If she really wanted the role, all she had to do was say the word.
Jiang Yu ignored her and instead looked at Wang Moli.
“When did you see me go backstage?”
Wang Moli averted her eyes. “I’d just arrived at the event when you and Deputy Section Chief Wu were talking—it looked like you were having a disagreement. After you finished, I saw you head backstage.”
“Oh? So you personally saw me saw her heel off?”
Wang Moli hemmed and hawed, unsure how to respond.
If she said yes, wouldn’t that expose the fact that she had also gone backstage?
Jiang Yu smirked coldly. “Older cousin, have you figured out what to say yet?”
Wang Moli gritted her teeth. “I didn’t see it, but what business did you have backstage? Isn’t that suspicious?”
Wu Jingyi scoffed. “What else could she be doing but something shady? She pulled out all the stops just to keep me off the stage!”
Jiang Yu remained cool as a cucumber, pulling up a chair and sitting down.
“Why would I even bother with you?”
Wu Jingyi shot her an icy look, all her weight on her uninjured leg.
“I took your position as Deputy Section Chief—don’t you hate my guts? You put on a calm front, pretending you don’t care, but deep down, you must loathe me.”
She laid their conflict bare, and the atmosphere instantly grew hostile.
“You knew I was auditioning for Lu Xiaoqin’s role, and you were jealous. You sabotaged my performance, afraid I’d catch Director Ding’s attention. Jiang Yu, you’re downright devious!”
Wang Moli breathed an inward sigh of relief—thankfully, Wu Jingyi played along.
With them at each other’s throats, she could keep her hands clean.
Jiang Yu laughed, "Deputy Section Chief Wu, with that wild imagination of yours, you oughta write fiction. Maybe Director Ding's next TV drama script could be penned by you."
Ding Jianan gave her a look of exasperation, seeing she still had the mood to joke.
"You’re getting accused, and you’re still cracking jokes?"
Wu Jingyi’s face fell as she glared at her. "Director Ding, why do you assume I'm the one framing her?"
Ding Jianan replied leisurely, "Do you *want* it to be her or not?"
Wu Jingyi stiffened. "I don't understand what you're saying."
Ye Zhu curled her lips, glancing at Wu Jingyi's shoe heel.
"Such an obvious crack—could you really not see it before stepping on stage?"
Wu Jingyi froze under her question, staring like a deer in headlights.
Ding Jianan, who'd seen this kind of act before, had been observing their antics from the start.
"Your heel was sawed, then you twisted your ankle—giving you a legitimate reason to lash out. Coincidentally, someone pointed fingers at Jiang Yu, right up your alley. While seeking justice for yourself was genuine, you wanted it to be Jiang Yu even more, so you’d have an excuse to go after her."
Wu Jingyi didn’t care who the real culprit was—she just wanted to frame Jiang Yu for it.
Thus, the sabotaged shoe became a golden opportunity.
Ding Jianan laid it all out, leaving Wu Jingyi exposed.
She turned away. "Regardless, the fact remains that my shoe was sabotaged. Whether I saw it coming or not, I have the right to demand justice."
This was an indirect admission—she had known about the shoe beforehand and deliberately wore it on stage.
"No wonder she became Deputy Section Chief—she’s a real schemer."
"You think she *actually* twisted her ankle?"
"She could’ve stopped this beforehand, yet she chose to drag everyone down and wreck their hard work."
Wu Jingyi had rehearsed for so long—but hadn’t the others?
Some weren’t even here for the casting—just to perform.
Who *wouldn’t* want their moment in the spotlight?
At this moment, the room turned on Wu Jingyi.
"Of course, you have the right to demand justice—that’s no one’s denying. But you ruined the entire event. Who will protect everyone else’s rights? Deputy Section Chief Wu, as one of the factory executives, you’ve got no sense of the bigger picture." Ding Jianan spared no mercy.
Seeing the hostility in everyone’s eyes, Wu Jingyi started to sweat.
She put on a brave face. "Director Ding, since you’re going to bat for Jiang Yu so fiercely, do you have proof of her innocence?"
Ding Jianan’s eyes narrowed, turning to Wang Moli.
"After Jiang Yu finished speaking with Deputy Section Chief Wu, she sat beside me the whole time—Ye Zhu was there too. I wonder if this *person* can take responsibility for her words?"
Ding Jianan and Ye Zhu, as the center of attention, had everyone’s eyes on them.
Naturally, many had also seen Jiang Yu laughing it up with them.
"I saw it too—Director Ding wasn’t lying."
"A bunch of people tried to grab the seat next to Director Ding, but she said that spot was reserved for Jiang Yu."
"I actually think Deputy Section Chief Jiang had no reason to do this. She wouldn’t resort to such a dirty trick!"
Wu Jingyi went ghostly pale, her knuckles popping faintly as she clenched her fists so tightly.
"Guess I got it wrong. The person who sawed my heel must be someone else."
She turned to Wang Moli, scrutinizing her.
"You’re new here, aren’t you? Who do you work under?"
Wang Moli hunched her shoulders, staring at the floor.
"I’m not an employee of the Second State Cotton Mill. I’m Deng Hongyi’s wife."
Wu Jingyi’s gaze sharpened. "So you’re Department Head Deng’s wife. You claimed you saw Jiang Yu enter the backstage. Got any proof? After all, Director Ding’s account contradicts yours."
Wang Moli bit her lip, throwing Jiang Ningning a dirty look.
After she came out from backstage, Jiang Ningning had rushed up to her, saying she spotted Jiang Yu sneaking out of backstage first.
That’s when Wang Moli got the idea to throw Jiang Yu under the bus.
If Jiang Yu had been with Ding Jianan the whole time, then there was only one possibility—Jiang Ningning was lying!
"It wasn’t me who saw it. Actually, it was Jiang Ningning. She came up to me and mentioned it."
Since Jiang Ningning dared to set her up, there was no reason for her to keep protecting this backstabber.
Wu Jingyi’s face went stony as her icy glare settled on Jiang Ningning.
"When exactly did you see this?"
Jiang Ningning trembled, her lips turning pale.
She’d just tossed it out without a thought—how could she have expected things to escalate like this?
Ding Jianan’s expression turned grim. Good thing she’d said no earlier.
Kid’s got a real scheming streak.
"Comrade Jiang was busy buttering me up earlier. How’d she even have time to notice where Jiang Yu went?"
Wang Moli seethed, betrayal burning in her gut.
"Oh, so that’s your game! While I was in the backstage, you went behind my back to approach Director Ding!"
