Chapter 473: Running Away with Someone

Jiang Yu hadn't noticed Jiang Ting's situation; she had never taken the Fu family seriously.

A few more days passed, and Jiang Ting still hadn't returned. Only then did Lin Hongxia mention that she should go look for her.

After searching around, she came back saying that Jiang Ting had run away with someone.

Only then did Jiang Yu realize something was amiss.

"With her big belly, who could she have run away with?"

Lin Hongxia's eyes darted around, "How would I know? Maybe she ran off with that Shao San. In any case, the child in her belly isn't from our Fu family, so who cares where she goes."

Anyone hearing this would feel a chill in their heart.

Xu Lihua looked at her with a reproachful gaze, "Old Lin, what you're saying is wrong. Jiang Ting is your daughter-in-law, after all. Now that she's missing, we should report it to the police!"

"She has two legs of her own. If she wants to run, why should I report it?"

Jiang Yu questioned, "You don't even know where she went, how can you be so sure she ran away with someone?"

Just because you didn't find her after a quick search, you accuse her of wrongdoing.

Lin Hongxia's actions were riddled with holes.

"It's not the first time she hasn't come home. Why didn't you look for her before? She was taking care of Fu Xiangyang at the hospital and suddenly didn't return. Didn't you suspect anything? Or did you already know where she was?"

Each of Jiang Yu's questions left Lin Hongxia breathless.

Every question she asked left the Fu family speechless.

Lin Hongxia’s face turned blue with anger. "Your relationship with her isn’t good; why are you pretending to be a good person now?"

The more she acted this way, the more Jiang Yu found it strange.

"Even if it weren’t Jiang Ting today, I wouldn’t stand idly by if it were anyone else in the courtyard."

Xu Lihua hurriedly added, "That’s right, Old Lin. Where has Jiang Ting gone? Tell us."

Lin Hongxia turned away. "I sent her to stay at my parents’ place for a while. She’s a harbinger of misfortune. With her around, Xiangyang can’t recover properly."

Xu Lihua reluctantly accepted this explanation, but felt even more puzzled inside.

"Why did you say she ran off with someone else?"

"I wanted Xiangyang to divorce her, but he refused."

Xu Lihua suddenly understood. "If the two children don’t want it, and Jiang Ting is so far along, just make do for now."

In her view, marriage was like two bowls together; there would always be some friction.

You give in a little, understand each other, and that’s how you spend your whole life together.

Everyone knew that Fu Xiangyang couldn’t have children, and everyone also knew that the child in Jiang Ting’s belly wasn’t his.

But they were like Zhou Yu and Huang Gai, both willing to endure the situation, leaving others with nothing to say.

With everything laid out in the open, the matter was put to rest.

Lin Hongxia heaved a sigh of relief when they stopped pressing her, and she pulled Fu Xiangyang, who was hesitating to speak, back home, closing the door behind them.

"Just deal with them for now. In a couple of years, I'll find you someone better."

Fu Xiangyang covered his face, tears seeping through his fingers, his breaths shaky.

"Mom, I regret it. Let's bring Jiang Ting back."

Lin Hongxia raised her hand in anger but froze it mid-air, unable to bring herself to strike.

"It took your uncle so much effort to get rid of her. Bringing her back would just cause me more trouble."

Fu Xiangyang was filled with panic and confusion, unsure of what to do.

He never wanted to treat Jiang Ting this way, but Lin Hongxia had pushed him too hard.

Yes, he was forced into it. Sending Jiang Ting away wasn't his choice, and if there was any fault, it wasn't his.

    ...

As the new official taking office, Jiang Yu's first action was to discuss the selection of a deputy section chief with Factory Director Zheng.

Factory Director Zheng suggested bringing someone in from elsewhere, but Jiang Yu felt it was unnecessary to look far.

"Brother Wu has extensive experience. I recommend him for the position."

When it came to Wu Jinshun, Factory Director Zheng didn't have much of an impression.

All he knew was that Wu Jinshun had a mild temperament and rarely offended anyone.

But it also means he dares not take the lead, being a conservative type.

    "I'll think about it."

He wouldn't rashly agree just because Jiang Yu recommended him.

Whether Wu Jinshun is suitable still depends on himself.

"Doesn't the Publicity Department need to hire one more person?"

Jiang Yu nodded immediately, waiting for Factory Director Zheng to bring it up.

"I was thinking of transferring He Qianqian to the Publicity Department."

Factory Director Zheng smiled and shook his head, "You're too slow; she's already been snapped up by the Finance Department. I'll have someone recruit another one for you."

Jiang Yu wasn't too concerned; it would be the same either way.

"In that case, I'll wait for the factory to recruit someone."

The matter with Wu Jinshun was still uncertain, so Jiang Yu hadn't disclosed it yet.

He had thought there were no suitable candidates in the factory at the moment, and with Wu Jinshun's qualifications, promoting him should be straightforward.

What Jiang Yu didn't anticipate was that someone would intervene.

Lan Raoqing went to the Third Factory to undermine Director Xue, who retaliated by placing one of his people under Jiang Yu's supervision.

By the time Jiang Yu found out, the decision had already been made.

The man before him was Wei Nan, a comrade whose actual age was hard to guess.

If it weren't for Jiang Yu having seen his file, he wouldn't have believed that Wei Nan was already forty.

Wei Nan, though recommended by Director Xue, was far from incompetent.

He spoke four languages, not fluently, but enough for basic communication.

It just so happened that the supply channel provided by Wu Jingyi had become unusable, and they needed to find a new supplier.

Wei Nan's abilities were hard to overlook.

"Department Head Jiang, your youthful talent is truly admirable. I wasn't at the Second State Cotton Mill before, or I would have come to meet you earlier."

Jiang Yu smiled slightly, "I am young and still have much to learn from my seniors. Our factory is in dire need of talents like Deputy Section Chief Wei."

On their first day together, Jiang Yu hadn't noticed anything wrong with Wei Nan.

He was courteous and knew how to conduct himself properly.

Moreover, he had already made initial contact with foreign suppliers, and if everything went well, he would soon achieve his first success since joining the factory.

When Jiang Yu returned home, he mentioned Wei Nan to He Tingyue.

    "Wei Nan? Which Wei?"

Jiang Yu dipped his finger in water and wrote the name on the table.

Before He Tingyue could react, He Feiyan frowned.

"Isn't that the younger brother of that woman?"

Jiang Yu was taken aback. "Which woman?"

"Wei Xiuru, He Jingyi's current wife."

It took Jiang Yu a while to recall who "He Jingyi" was.

Although Wei Nan was currently well-behaved and might not know his true identity, Jiang Yu still harbored some wariness and prejudice towards him.

Anyone He Tingyue disliked, she unconditionally despised as well.

"How coincidental, he could have gone to any department, but he ended up here."

Does Wei Nan really not recognize her?

He Feiyan sneered coldly. "I saw him when I was little, Sister-in-law, you need to be cautious. He’s not as gentle as he appears on the surface."

She had a hard life under Wei Xiuru's care during her childhood.

Once, Wei Xiuru's son broke Grandfather's favorite vase and framed her for it.

It was snowing outside, and she was punished to kneel at the door, with no one speaking up for her.

That was the first time she met Wei Nan, young and clean-cut, looking very gentle.

He asked her what was wrong and wiped her tears with a handkerchief. He Feiyan almost fell for his act, thinking he would stand up for her.

But when he went inside, He Feiyan heard him say,

"That child seems not to know right from wrong, let her kneel a bit longer. How can children learn without discipline?"

"Just kneeling won’t teach her a lesson. It’s best not to give her food, not even tomorrow. Let her go hungry."

He was skilled at giving people hope only to stab them in the back.

Its a bit old having all the major villains in the factory show up in a PR office of only 4 people. Why cant they join the finance office or something? They see other villains have been taken down before and decide to go head to head instead? I mean its pretty much guaranteed that if Jiangyu is suspended again it means they are plotting something. Shes been suspended half the time she worked at the factory already.

It took Jiang Yu a while to recall who “He Jingyi” was.
