Chapter 663: Weren’t You Watching with Great Interest Too?
by 六六小可爱Chapter 663: Weren’t You Watching With Just as Much Interest?
After leaving the He family, Jiang Yu felt a heavy gloom in her chest that wouldn’t dissipate, so she headed to the park and sat there for a long time.
Whether Wei Xiuru and He Jingyi had gotten their marriage certificate or not made no difference to her and He Tingyue.
But she still found it disgusting—totally gross.
Only when she felt a little better did she realize how late it had gotten, and she needed to return home.
When she finally arrived, she found Yao Xiangling out of her mind with worry.
She swatted Jiang Yu’s arm. "You scared me to death! Where the heck did you go?"
Jiang Yu blinked. "I just took a walk in the park. What’s wrong?"
Aunt Lan sighed. "He Tingyue went to the He family to pick you up. The old man said you’d left long ago, but you hadn’t come home. He thought something had happened to you and is still out searching."
After the incident with the Du family, He Tingyue had already been uneasy about Jiang Yu going out alone.
This time, he got frantic, worried she might actually be hurt.
Jiang Yu immediately stood up to leave. "Let me go look for him!"
Yao Xiangling quickly stopped her. "What’s the point? If He Tingyue comes back and finds you gone again, he’ll just rush out searching once more."
Jiang Yu forced a smile. "So I just have to wait here helplessly?"
"Who told you to run off?" Yao Xiangling gave her a scolding look.
Fortunately, it wasn’t long before He Tingyue hurried back.
Seeing Jiang Yu safe at home, he finally let out a breath.
His tone was calm, though slightly rushed. "Where were you?"
Jiang Yu took his hand, guilt flickering in her eyes. "I just took a walk in the park and lost track of time. I didn’t expect you to come pick me up."
He Tingyue squeezed her hand, quickly picking up on the suppressed emotions in her.
"What’s wrong?"
Jiang Yu pursed her lips before finally telling him about Wei Xiuru and He Jingyi getting their marriage certificate.
Even Yao Xiangling couldn’t help but sneer upon hearing this.
"Those two shameless old fools."
Aunt Lan wasn’t in the loop, but if Yao Xiangling disliked them, they couldn’t be good people.
The calmest one was He Tingyue, who stayed calm as he comforted Jiang Yu.
"He and Wei Xiuru have been together for so many years. Whether they have that certificate or not doesn’t change much."
That marriage license meant everything to Wei Xiuru, but to him, it wasn’t worth caring about.
"Don’t be upset. Just avoid going over there in the future—out of sight, out of mind."
Jiang Yu pursed her lips. If it weren’t for the old master, she wouldn’t have gone to the He family at all.
In the evening, Tan Lizhu came to Jiang Yu’s house as usual to watch TV.
When Wei Xiuru was mentioned, she scoffed coldly.
"Before I left, she even came to see me on purpose."
She’d spouted a bunch of nonsense, saying Tan Lizhu wasn’t worthy of He Dongqi and shouldn’t think about chasing after him.
"Are the two of them off their rockers? Who would even want to chase after someone like He Dongqi?"
Tan Lizhu considered herself quite patient, but she just couldn’t stomach people like Wei Xiuru.
Jiang Yu gave her hand a reassuring pat. "I think you should move somewhere else, so you don’t have to deal with his pestering."
Tan Lizhu had been thinking the same thing and was already looking for a place, preferably close to the Second State Cotton Mill.
When the ads came on, Xu Lihua pulled Tan Lizhu outside to use the toilet.
As they came out of the southern room, Xu Lihua peered into the Fus’ window and saw Lin Hongxia and Old Lady Qian also watching *The Spark*. She snorted with laughter.
These two had been trashing the show all over the residential compound, saying how terrible it was with nothing good about it.
They even claimed they hadn’t watched it at all—yet here they were, sneaking a watch.
Xu Lihua called out, "Mrs. Lin, I thought you weren’t watching? Why are you hooked on it now? And even discussing it!"
Startled, Lin Hongxia hurriedly turned off the TV.
"Who’s watching? I wasn’t! Who’d waste time on this drama? It’s so badly made!"
Flustered, Lin Hongxia wanted to go out and argue with Xu Lihua, but by the time she stepped outside, Xu Lihua was already gone.
She muttered under her breath, "Good thing you scrammed!"
Old Lady Qian poked her head out. "Mrs. Lin, are we still watching?"
Lin Hongxia looked uncomfortable. "Watch what? If Xu Lihua sees us again, she’ll just laugh at us."
It’s just a TV show—what’s so great about it?
Old Lady Qian licked her lips, still itching to see more.
There was still one episode left tonight. If they skipped it, they wouldn’t be able to follow tomorrow’s episode.
"She’s back to her own show. She won’t be snooping on us. Let’s just finish this episode."
Lin Hongxia huffed, "I’m not watching! And I won’t watch it ever again. We agreed not to watch Jiang Yu’s show—if you hadn’t nagged me, we wouldn’t have been caught by Xu Lihua tonight."
Talk about humiliating.
Old Lady Qian sneered, "You were just as hooked, weren’t you? Just one more episode, and we won’t watch tomorrow."
Lin Hongxia ignored her, shoved her out, and slammed the door in her face.
Furious, Old Lady Qian ranted and raved outside for a long time.
Before long, Xu Lihua returned from the outhouse.
"Oh, got thrown out, huh?"
Xu Lihua sneered, "You might as well have your son buy you a TV. Spare you the trouble of coming to Lin Hongxia’s place every day."
Old Lady Qian shot her a glare. "Who got kicked out? It’s just late today. I’ll be back tomorrow."
"There’s one more episode left. Not watching?" Xu Lihua shot her a glance.
Old Lady Qian snorted loudly. "No! I wasn’t even watching to begin with!"
Worst case, she’d ask around tomorrow to find out what happened in the episode she missed tonight. Then she'd be all caught up tomorrow.
Xu Lihua snorted in derision as she watched the old woman hurry away.
Her pride's gonna be her downfall.
Old Lady Qian rushed home, sighing repeatedly.
Missing an episode tonight left her feeling out of the loop.
She'd barely gotten home when Wang Moli said coldly, "Your eldest son called Boss Deng’s office today. Said he mailed you a letter—should get here tomorrow."
Though Old Lady Qian had left the countryside, she still worried about her eldest son.
She pinched every penny of her pension each month, sending it all to him.
Hearing from him, she was naturally pleased.
"Alright, I’ll check tomorrow."
Then Wang Moli dropped her warning: "He’s your son. I won’t stop you from keeping in touch. But listen up—if you two dare scheme against my son again, don’t blame me for cutting ties."
Being scolded by her daughter-in-law stung Old Lady Qian’s pride, but she swallowed her anger.
She bit her tongue and nodded quickly.
"Come on now, your son is my grandson too. How could I even think of that?"
Yet the next day, when she retrieved the letter, Wang Moli’s words proved true.
Boss Deng was downright obsessed with having a son. He wanted to divorce and remarry and father a son.
But he had no money—what woman in her right mind would marry him?
So he begged Old Lady Qian to persuade Deng Hongyi to help him out more.
Old Lady Qian wrung her hands in worry. Her eldest was disabled now—finding a wife would be next to impossible.
Even with money, who’d be willing to marry him?
With a sigh, she got someone to write back for her.
"Just say, don't worry about having a child. I’ll think of something. Just be patient."
After mailing the letter, her worries came flooding back. What could a backcountry old lady like her possibly do?
