Chapter 211: Bringing Money for Your Brother?
by 六六小可爱Chapter 211: Bringing Money for Your Brother?
After delivering the message, Jiang Yu got ready to head back and check on Jiang Xin.
On the way, she ran into Auntie Du, who stopped her for a quick chat.
"Jiang Yu, what're you back for today? Bringing money for your brother?"
Jiang Yu shook her head, "Why would I give money for nothing?"
Auntie Du said, "Jiang Hao is getting married. Didn't you know? They say the wedding's set for the 18th."
Jiang Yu responded, "I know."
Auntie Du glared, "Your brother is getting married, and you're not giving money?"
Jiang Yu countered, "Auntie Du, how much did you give when your brother got married?"
Auntie Du replied with a pout, "Back then, we were all struggling. I didn't have any money. It's different for you; you have a job now."
Jiang Yu scoffed and stopped paying attention to her.
Since she hadn't seen Jiang Xin for a while, she'd recently made her a hat, bought a few pairs of socks and a scarf, and decided to bring them over.
Jiang Xin was outside chasing some wild chickens and spotted her right away, running over quickly.
"Sis!"
Jiang Yu put her arm around Jiang Xin's shoulder. After not seeing her for a while, Jiang Xin looked much healthier, her face a little fuller.
"Big Sister, why're you back?"
Jiang Yu pinched her little sister's cheek, "I came back to take care of some stuff and bring you something."
"What is it?" Jiang Xin said, looking eager.
Jiang Yu said, "I'll give it to you when we get home."
She led Jiang Xin into the house, ignoring Ye Laotai and Jiang Hao who were by the door.
Ye Laotai immediately followed them inside and started scolding.
"I've never seen a granddaughter behave the way you do! I'm your grandmother, but you treat me like an enemy—worse than an enemy."
Jiang Yu said coldly, "Grandmother, you're overthinking it. I don't treat my enemies this well."
She pulled out a bag of pastries she'd brought from Shunlin Bakery.
She made it clear—this bag was for the family, while Jiang Xin's things were handed to her separately.
"Come on, let's go to your room." She patted Jiang Xin's shoulder.
Jiang Xin happily took her back to her own room.
Ever since her two older sisters got married, the house had become much more spacious, and Jiang Xin even had a room of her own.
Jiang Yu took out the cotton hat and let her try it on.
The hat was red plaid with two velvet balls hanging by the temples. Jiang Xin had never seen such a unique cotton hat design before.
"Big sister, is this for me?"
She was full of surprise, picking up the cotton hat in disbelief and examining it carefully.
"Go on, try it. If it doesn't fit, I can fix it up for you."
Jiang Xin was a bit reluctant, but under Jiang Yu's urging, she still put it on.
"Does it look good?"
Jiang Yu smiled and adjusted it for her, handing her the mirror so she could see for herself. Jiang Xin couldn't have been happier, thinking she looked perfect no matter what.
"And here's this scarf. Big sister doesn't know how to knit, so I bought this for you."
Its color was very bright.
Jiang Xin felt like she was dreaming, touching the soft scarf.
"Sister, this must have been expensive. I can't take it."
"Don't be silly, why not? Big sister also made a cotton coat for your brother. You didn't have one. I have a job, so it's not a big deal buying these."
Only then did Jiang Xin wrap the scarf around herself, smiling and saying, "With this new scarf, I can wear it to school now."
Jiang Yu felt a pang of sadness, "It's big sister's fault for not bringing it earlier."
"Big sister isn't at fault, you're the best sister in the world," Jiang Xin retorted, pouting.
Along with those, there were also a few pairs of socks and a pair of gloves.
"These are all yours, but don't let anyone else use them, got it?"
"I understand!"
On top of that, Jiang Yu gave her ten dollars.
"You're not allowed to tell anyone about this money. If the new sister-in-law comes and bullies you in the future, you can come find me by yourself. Master Zhang, he's a driver and knows me. Just tell him, and he'll bring you to me."
Jiang Yu didn't trust Du Juan, but for now, she couldn't bring Jiang Xin away from this home.
If possible, she didn't want Jiang Xin to suffer in this household and leave feeling wronged.
"Big sister, don't worry. No one can bully me. I'll be fine."
Jiang Yu nodded, "And these pastries and peach cookies, keep them and eat slowly."
She wasn't like Jiang Ting. She was raised by Jiang Yu, so she was somewhat like her.
Being the youngest, she suffered less and wouldn't let herself be wronged.
After giving these instructions, Jiang Yu got up and left.
As soon as she opened the door, she saw Ye Laotai was eavesdropping outside.
Just then, Wang Meili returned, placing five dollars on the table.
"This is the wedding gift for Jiang Hao's wedding. On that day, we won't be able to come back."
Wang Meili didn't have time to respond before her smile froze.
"What do you mean you won't come? Your younger brother is getting married, and as his older sister, you're not coming?"
Jiang Yu replied, "I don't have the time to come."
Wang Meili didn't buy that she was busy and felt that Jiang Yu really didn't consider Jiang Hao her brother anymore.
However, last time Jiang Yonghua had a proper talk with her, and since Jiang Yu had grown estranged from them, she couldn't confront her directly but had to handle her with kid gloves.
With this in mind, she suppressed her anger.
"Jiang Yu, if you don't come, not only Jiang Hao but also our parents will lose face."
With He Tingyue present, the Du family wouldn't dare to make things too difficult during the wedding procession.
Jiang Yu sneered, "Do you not remember what the Du family has done to me? Seeing them only makes me feel disgusted. I said I'm not coming, so I'm not coming."
With that, she picked up her things and left the place.
Wang Meili noticed that she had given five dollars and brought some pastries with her, which made her feel slightly better about it. At least she hadn't come empty-handed.
Turning around, she saw Auntie Du peeking in, looking curious from the doorway.
"Meili, your Jiang Yu is back. Why haven't I seen her yet?"
Wang Meili forced a smile, "She's already gone back. She has her own family now, so she can't be away too long."
Auntie Du glanced at the items in her hand—Shunlinzhai, a pastry shop in the city that is said to have a history of over a hundred years.
The pastries there aren't cheap.
"Do you think Jiang Yu will come back for Jiang Hao's wedding? I wanted to talk to her just now, but she just left in a hurry."
Wang Meili asked, "What did you want to say to her?"
Auntie Du replied, "Her factory is hiring, right? I wanted to ask if she could recommend our Pandy for the position."
Wang Meili was unaware of this and asked, "How did you find out the second factory is hiring?"
"He Qianqian from Captain He's family is going for an interview next week. It's supposedly Jiang Yu who helped arrange it. Didn't she tell you about it?"
Auntie Du knew about this because she overheard it from the wife of He Youfu's younger brother.
The news quickly spread around, and people were saying that Jiang Yu seemed to have become cold-hearted towards her natal family, since she wasn't even helping Jiang Hao.
Wang Meili was startled, and as the pastries slipped from her hand, they shattered into pieces.
She was the least able to hold her temper and immediately flared up.
"What's the use of even raising this daughter? She doesn't even help her own family but helps outsiders instead!"
No, she needed to find Jiang Yu and ask her about this.
But before she could leave Nanhe Village, Jiang Yonghua stopped her.
If she went to make a scene, not only would she offend Jiang Yu, but the He family wouldn't be happy either. It wasn't worth it.
