Chapter 487 Of Course It’s the One Who Protects You
by 六六小可爱**Chapter 487: Of Course, the One Protecting You**
Ever since the factory meeting was announced, Jiang Yu knew she wouldn’t be able to avoid what was coming today.
She wasn’t scared of them searching her place, nor was she afraid of them checking her bankbook.
But them sending people to ransack her home over these bogus charges filled her with resentment.
If she’d been just a little greedier back then, held onto all that stuff and kept the secret, none of this would’ve happened.
When word of these rumors got to her, Ding Jianan happened to be at Jiang Yu’s house.
“Your factory bosses can’t be that dumb, can they?” Ding Jianan said in disbelief.
To screw over someone who’s done so much for the factory just because of some outside gossip?
Jiang Yu smiled bitterly. “Director Zheng wouldn’t, but the Mill isn’t just his call.”
Director Xue is on equal footing with him, and he’s got bosses over him too.
Just like He Tingyue—in his position, all he can do is follow orders.
Ye Zhu was quiet for a moment. “Would they actually find anything at your place?”
Jiang Yu looked at her and shook her head.
“There’s nothing at my place.”
Ye Zhu nodded. “That’s all I needed to know.”
“I’ve got contacts up in Beicheng. You don’t mind if they come interview you, do you?”
Jiang Yu asked, “Reporters?”
“Word is you’ve pulled off some impressive stuff, but you’ve stayed under the radar. A while back, a friend of mine really wanted to interview you, but I was in a rush to get back to Shanghai and never got the chance.”
Ye Zhu had just thought of it—felt like now might be the right time.
Jiang Yu replied modestly, “I wouldn’t say impressive, but I’m happy to help.”
Ye Zhu stood up and patted Jiang Yu’s shoulder.
“Don’t you dare back down. From the first moment I saw you, I knew you belonged up top, shining bright.”
Not getting stomped on by anybody.
After Ye Zhu left, Ding Jianan finally spoke. “Want me to go have a word with Director Zheng?”
If they did end up raiding Jiang Yu’s home, wouldn’t that just be a slap in the face?
Jiang Yu shook her head. “Director Zheng probably can’t do much.”
What she needed to do now was wait—and put up one hell of a fight.
If things still didn’t change in the end, she’d take whatever came.
Ding Jianan had more years under her belt and had seen this song and dance before.
But when it actually hit Jiang Yu like this, it still burned her up.
"Isn't this kicking the ladder away after climbing up? Who’d dare do something like this in the future..."
Jiang Yu gave a bitter smile. "Director Ding, thank you."
Ding Jiayan pressed her lips together. "There’s not much I can do for you."
"How could you say that? I still need you all to testify. A large part of my money comes from screenplay royalties."
"That goes without saying."
Hearing the increasing noise outside, Jiang Yu took a deep breath and stood up, walking out.
Ding Jiayan followed closely behind. Seeing the group that had arrived, she couldn’t help but feel alarmed.
Anyone who didn’t know better might think Jiang Yu had committed a capital crime, the way they were barging in like they were raiding her home.
Fu Xianghong gloated from the side, "She had it coming!"
Xu Lihua shot her a glare. "Today’s been a real eye-opener. Fu Xianghong, you’ve got no shame!"
Yuan Jiayin sneered, "With that whole family of theirs, which one of them has any decency?"
The Fu family members fell silent, slipping to the back of the crowd to watch.
Factory Director Xue led the group, but none of the people with him were from the Second Cotton Mill’s security department—all unfamiliar faces.
They’d barely stepped inside when He Tingyue returned, taking his place beside Jiang Yu.
Jiang Yu smiled faintly. "I thought they’d have you lead the team."
He Tingyue replied coolly, "That was the plan. I said no."
"Section Chief He, won’t you face disciplinary action for disobeying orders?"
He Tingyue curled his lip slightly. "No. I quit."
A casual, tossed-off comment—but it stunned everyone.
To throw away a solid Section Chief position like that? That’s insane!
Director Xue scoffed. "Tingyue, you’re too impulsive! You should know—jobs like that don’t grow on trees. If you don’t want it, the security section’s full of guys who’d kill for your job!"
He Tingyue raised an eyebrow. "Then let ’em take it."
Director Xue eyed his stance. "You looking for a fight? Just step aside and let us in. We’ll leave once we’re done searching."
He Tingyue started forward, but Jiang Yu caught his hand.
"You’d better have a damn good reason, Director Xue. I’m still a worker at the Second Mill—who the hell gave you the right to barge in and search my place? Based on nothing but wild guesses?"
Director Xue smirked. "Department Head Jiang, I’m not Jiang Chenghuai—I didn’t come here to argue! Whether you’re stalling or throwing a fit today, we’re going in!"
Jiang Yu shot back, "And if you find something? If you don’t? You’d better follow procedure. Everyone here sees what’s happening—you gonna storm anyone’s house just because you feel like it, Director Xue? What, are we living in the Wild West now?"
That accusation hit hard—even Director Xue flinched.
"You always know how to talk your way out. Fine, since you asked, I’ll explain: that stuff you dug up before—the factory suspects you of embezzlement."
"Evidence? The burden’s on the accuser. Without proof, what gives you the right to search my place?"
Director Xue raised his voice, "The money in your bank account is the evidence!"
Ding Jianan shouted angrily, "Bullshit! Jiang Yu has been submitting articles to newspapers—aren't the royalties money? The copyright fees our film studio pays aren't money? Just these earnings alone are more than you make in years! You're just jealous of her wealth, abusing your power under a noble-sounding excuse to ransack her home, openly committing robbery like a damn bandit!"
Director Xue's face turned as black as coal. "Enough! This is an order from the Textile Industry Revolutionary Committee. Anyone who obstructs is her accomplice!"
...
"Little He resigned, and you just stood by?" Miao Shilan looked down at Factory Director Zheng, clearly furious at his inaction.
Factory Director Zheng scratched his head. "What could I do? Deputy Director Jiao is still watching over the factory. My hands are tied everywhere—I want to help but can't."
Miao Shilan snapped, "You didn't even fucking try—how can you say you're unable? I think you’ve changed. Power has inflated your desires, making you forget where you started!"
"Your wife is right!" Mrs. Zhou, who had arrived at the factory unnoticed, walked straight in from outside.
"Mom, why are you adding to the chaos?" Factory Director Zheng said helplessly. He was already overwhelmed and had no time to deal with her.
"Me, adding chaos? Did I bring this mess to the factory? Zheng Yuchuan, I think you’ve changed! Now that you're a factory director, you’ve forgotten where you came from!"
Factory Director Zheng hung his head. "Deputy Director Jiao personally gave the order..."
"Damn Jiao Zongyao! When he was running around in diapers begging me for sweets, his nose ran halfway to the floor! I ask you, who is the director of the Second State Cotton Mill? If you can’t even protect your own people, what kind of director are you?"
Mrs. Zhou berated him relentlessly, leaving Factory Director Zheng completely miserable—he was truly damned if he did, damned if he didn’t.
"Then what do you want me to do?"
Mrs. Zhou declared firmly, "Protect your people, of course! Don’t let those who've worked diligently for the factory have their hearts broken!"
She might as well have pointed at Jiang Yu outright.
Just because of baseless rumors, they were eager to nail the blame to Jiang Yu and disgrace her.
Such unreasonable actions were shamelessly carried out by certain people.
If Factory Director Zheng did nothing, how was he any different from them?
Who would dare to bleed for the Second State Cotton Mill in the future?
