Chapter 575: You’re Not Qualified to Make Decisions!
by 六六小可爱Chapter 575: You Have No Right to Make the Decision!
Jiang Yu arrived at the newspaper office and came into contact with photos unseen by the general public—images of complete devastation.
Just looking at the pictures, she could feel the smothering despair.
"This goes beyond just supplies. The rescue efforts are extremely difficult, with aftershocks making many plans impossible to carry out smoothly," Jiang Yu murmured to herself.
She couldn't help but wonder whether the relief team sent from North City to aid the disaster zone would make it there safely.
"These are the conditions in the cities surrounding Huangcheng—just as bad, with the impact spreading too widely."
Yet, the majority of attention was focused on Huangcheng, leaving the surrounding cities overlooked.
Some areas, equally devastated, were cut off from rescue or supplies, their situations just as critical.
Jiang Yu glanced over the reports and picked up her pen.
The newspaper had opened a dedicated section for the earthquake, with updates every few days and reporters tracking the local disaster situation.
Before she knew it, another day slipped by in a blur.
When she returned home, Old Lady Ma had been waiting for her.
"Factory Director Zheng agreed, but Yun'an's identity is sensitive, so the donation has to be made in your name. I came to ask for your opinion."
If Jiang Yu agreed, she would inevitably take on some risk.
After all, at a time like this, no one wanted to be associated with foreign contacts.
"Teacher, then let it be in my name. I hope that one day, my senior brother can openly return to his homeland and clear his name."
Old Lady Ma's eyes grew moist as she forced a smile.
"Let's hope so."
Years had passed since the Qin family’s rehabilitation, yet her husband would never see it, and the son who should've been caring for her had long left for foreign lands.
He still cared for his homeland, but even returning was difficult.
After Old Lady Ma left, Jiang Yu sat quietly in the house for a long time, feeling a strange heaviness in her chest, her thoughts restless.
He Feiyan and Wu Yue hadn't returned yet, so she went outside to clear her head.
She then saw He Feiyan running back breathlessly from outside.
Before she could even catch her breath, she gasped to Jiang Yu, "Sister-in-law, big brother... the transport team lost communication. They encountered an aftershock while delivering supplies—and now they're unaccounted for."
Jiang Yu’s world went dark, her body swaying as she nearly collapsed on the spot.
Xu Lihua, who had been keeping an eye on the southern wing, cried out.
"Feiyan, hurry and help your sister-in-law inside!"
He Feiyan snapped to attention and quickly guided Jiang Yu back into the house.
Though her own heart was racing, she now tried to comfort her.
"Sister-in-law, no news is good news. Big brother used to lead troops in battle—he wasn't afraid of enemy forces, much less some aftershocks. He... he's definitely okay."
Jiang Yu took several deep breaths to calm herself.
Crying was the most useless thing—Heaven wouldn’t cut her any slack just because she prayed.
She bit her lip, fighting back tears.
"I can't go. I’d just hold everyone back."
In her current condition, no one in their right mind would let her go into the disaster zone.
The situation now was way worse than the Henan floods.
Besides, apart from logistics, she wasn’t much use.
But if she couldn’t go, there were plenty who could step up.
"Fei Yan, go to Sixie’s place and find Xiao Qi."
He Feiyan hesitated. "Them?"
It wasn’t that she doubted what Xiao Qi’s crew could do, but she feared they’d be in even greater danger.
Jiang Yu explained briefly, "Xiao Qi and the others have worked side by side with your brother-in-law. They were trained by him and know how he operates."
Especially since they had done rescue work before—regular haul crews couldn’t touch them.
Unable to wait, Jiang Yu decided to go herself and seek help from Xiao Qi and his group.
Lately, they had been assisting Sixie in gathering supplies, dying for some real action.
"Don’t sweat it, sis, we’ll definitely find Brother Yue!"
Jiang Yu pressed her lips together, her eyes losing their light.
"You don’t have to do this. This trip is dangerous."
Xiao Qi patted his chest. "Back in the day with Brother Yue, which mission wasn’t dangerous?"
Tie Tou rubbed his head. "No point sitting around. Let’s set off with the transport team."
Jiang Yu said, "I need to clear it with the factory first. Wait a little longer and prepare yourselves."
"You got it!"
Jiang Yu turned back to Factory No. 2 and tracked down Director Zheng.
The second she walked in, he knew why she was there.
Rubbing his forehead, stressed, he sighed. "I meant to have someone keep you in the dark."
Who knew Jiang Yu would get wind of it so fast?
Jiang Yu accepted the news calmly and proposed sending Tie Tou and his team to the disaster zone.
"Who’re these guys?" Not being factory employees, Factory Director Zheng naturally didn’t recognize them.
Jiang Yu insisted, "They’re ex-military."
Jiao Zongyao sneered. "Better than our haulers?"
He was secretly hoping He Tingyue would run into trouble, so he could see who would still protect Jiang Yu then!
The heavens are watching, knowing to remove the stumbling block for him.
Jiang Yu kept her gaze straight ahead, her voice cold and firm: "Whether they're capable or not can only be known after trying. Factory Director Zheng, if you trust me, let them go."
Factory Director Zheng was about to agree when Jiao Zongyao cut in: "Department Head Jiang sure thinks highly of herself. Transporting supplies is no trivial matter—how can it be decided based on just your word? This needs a meeting for discussion. We’ll discuss this properly later."
Jiang Yu's hands balled into fists, nearly slapping him, but Factory Director Zheng quickly intervened.
"Go ahead and arrange it. Have them lead four teams there. Supplies aren’t as urgent—people's lives come first."
The central government had already mobilized the military for supply transport, so theirs could wait. Rescue was the top priority.
Jiao Zongyao, seeing he was being completely ignored, was furious.
"Zheng Yuchuan, I disagree! You don't have the authority to make this decision!"
Factory Director Zheng motioned for Jiang Yu to leave the office.
Only after she left did he lean back in his chair, crossing his arms and legs at the ankles.
"I’m the director of the Second State Cotton Mill. Of course, I can decide on mill affairs! As for Deputy Director Jiao, if you've got so much time on your hands, why not follow Deputy Section Chief Wei’s example?"
Jiao Zongyao slammed the table and stood up, glaring.
"Who do you think you're talking to! I’m your superior—how dare you speak to me like this!"
Factory Director Zheng slammed the table harder, roaring back.
"I’ve had enough of you! Just who the hell do you think you are, strutting around here? You’re my superior? Well, I’m not listening to you today! Go ahead, try kicking me out of the Second State Cotton Mill! If you can’t, then shut your damn mouth! All bark and no bite—useless!"
Without pausing, he let loose a stream of curses, then exhaled in satisfaction.
Already on the edge of fury, Jiao Zongyao had walked right into that one.
"Deputy Director Jiao, get out!"
Jiao Zongyao’s nostrils flared as he heaved with rage.
Since rising to his position, no one had dared curse him to his face.
"Fine! Very well! Zheng Yuchuan, you'll regret this!"
Factory Director Zheng sneered. "You’re the one who’ll regret it. Sticking your nose in our mill's business, delaying rescue efforts—I’ll be filing a report. Just you wait!"
Jiao Zongyao stomped out, furious. "I’ll be waiting!"
