    Chapter 430: She’s Such a Great Person!

Yuan Jiayin blinked at her, stunned. "This hairpin costs twenty yuan, and you're just giving it to me like that?"

    "Mhm, don’t you like it?"

"I do, of course I do!"

Jiang Yu clipped it into her hair. "Call it a thank-you for shopping with me."

She’d had a blast, after all.

She had no intention of exchanging the FECs for cash—letting them sit unused was as good as trash.

    Yuan Jiayin frowned.

Wasn’t it *her* who had asked Jiang Yu to accompany her shopping?

They stepped out of the Friendship Store, their hands full of shopping bags, hard to miss.

Yuan Jiayin thought to herself—most of the bags she carried were Jiang Yu’s purchases.

But then again, thinking of the lovely hairpin on her head, she didn’t mind at all.

Jiang Ningning spotted Yuan Jiayin at a glance.

When she saw her walking and laughing alongside Jiang Yu, resentment flared up inside her.

Her situation was all because of the He family—how could Yuan Jiayin still be friends with Jiang Yu?

"Sis Yin…” Her voice dripped with bitterness.

Yuan Jiayin hadn’t seen her in a long time, so the sudden encounter took her by surprise.

Beicheng wasn’t huge, but it wasn’t small either.

"Oh, Ning Ning, are you out shopping too?"

Jiang Ningning’s tone was sour. "Must be nice to have your luck, free to shop… and splurge like this."

Hearing her tone, Yuan Jiayin knew this wouldn’t be a pleasant conversation.

"Then we’ll get out of your way. Jiang Yu and I will be on our way."

She wasn’t exactly eager to deal with the Jiangs either.

But Jiang Ningning bit her lip and grabbed her arm.

"Sis Yin, you know damn well how I got here. How could you… how could you…"

"How could I what?" Yuan Jiayin was baffled.

Jiang Ningning said tearfully, "How could you be friends with Jiang Yu! Who the hell are you with? How could you betray my brother like this? How could you betray *me*?"

Yuan Jiayin let out a bitter laugh. "Your family’s the one who did wrong, not me. I don’t owe you a damn thing. Your eldest brother and I split up long ago—do you really wanna make a scene right here? You might have no shame, but I do!"

Jiang Ningning’s eyes welled up immediately, seething with real resentment.

"So what if my eldest brother messed up? What’s that got to do with me?"

Yuan Jiayin's face turned cold. "You think I’d give you the time of day without your brother? Cut the act already. You’re the one who tried to snake someone else’s job slot, failed, and now you’re blaming them? What kind of logic is that? Hell, even I fess up when I’m wrong—why can’t you?"

Jiang Ningning sobbed, "Sis Yin, how could you be so cold? Just throwing away all those years of feelings with my brother like that?"

Stranded and desperate, she could only play the pity card.

Yuan Jiayin rolled her eyes. "Don’t talk to me about feelings. Your brother’s got feelings to spare—he hands them out like candy. He sure doesn’t need *me*. And besides, I’m seeing someone now—marriage serious. Don’t bring up Jiang Mingrui in front of me again!"

To her, Jiang Mingrui wasn’t fit to lick Tong Fang’s boots.

"You have a boyfriend? Who? How could you?"

Jiang Ningning was furious, her eyes filled with accusation, as if Yuan Jiayin had betrayed Jiang Mingrui.

Yuan Jiayin used to be different—no matter how much Jiang Mingrui hurt her, she’d always wait for him to come back.

"He works security at the Second State Cotton Mill. His name is Tong Fang, and he’s a wonderful person!"

Jiang Ningning’s head snapped up. "Who?"

    "Tong Fang!"

Jiang Yu stared, dumbstruck. Did she not know Tong Fang and Jiang Ningning almost got engaged?

And here she was, rubbing it in.

"Sis Yin, Tong Fang was *mine* first."

Damn right I can!" Yuan Jiayin shouted louder. "And let me correct you—he was never with you. You two were *almost* engaged—key word: *almost*!"

Jiang Ningning exploded, "Even if it was almost, he was still mine!"

Now backed into a corner, she hoped Tong Fang could save her.

If he married, would he even spare her a thought?

"Newsflash: you’re married," Jiang Yu reminded her.

Jiang Ningning gritted her teeth. "Married or not, Sis Yin has no right to him!"

"I don’t need your permission to be with anyone."

Yuan Jiayin had had enough—nothing Jiang Ningning said was pleasant to hear.

Who died and made her the boss of her ex’s love life?

Jiang Ningning bawled, clutching her sleeve. "Sis Yin, I’m begging you, don’t be with him. Please!"

Even Jiang Yu couldn’t believe her ears.

What right did Jiang Ningning have to say such things about Tong Fang?

If he heard this, he might not even be happy about it.

    "Get off me!"

Jiang Ningning shook her head vigorously. "If you don’t say yes, I’m not letting go."

Yuan Jiayin shoved her away hard.

But Jiang Ningning fell forward onto the ground, her palms scraping hard against the pavement.

When she lifted her hands, her palms were scraped raw.

Yuan Jiayin froze for a second and glanced at Jiang Yu.

Jiang Yu pressed her lips together. "You didn’t mean to. She was the one blocking your way."

Yuan Jiayin felt slightly better, though her voice still wavered. "You were the one who insisted on grabbing me. It’s not my fault."

Jiang Yu, fed up with the back-and-forth, snapped. "Yuan Jiayin, are you leaving or not? If not, I’m going. I’m freezing my ass off!"

She hated the cold, and standing there listening to their nonsense had pushed her patience to the limit.

"Let’s go, let’s go. Your stuff’s still with me."

Watching them fade into the distance, Jiang Ningning bit her lip so hard it bled.

Only when they were completely out of sight did she finally accept the fact that Yuan Jiayin had changed.

She got up from the ground and limped back to the guesthouse.

Tong Fang had found her this hiding place. Though the accommodations weren’t great, at least her family’s men hadn’t found her.

Staring at the wounds on her palms, her gaze turned calculating.

Suddenly, it struck her: why let these injuries go to waste?

Having made up her mind, Jiang Ningning acted on it.

Since the day Tong Fang had brought her to the guesthouse, he hadn’t visited her again.

If he wouldn’t come to her, she would go to him.

Tong Fang was a soft touch. Seeing her like this, he naturally showed concern.

"Jiang Ningning, what happened to you?"

She forced a smile and quickly hid her hands. "It’s nothing. I got Tong Yuan some treats, but I got into a fight on the way."

    "Who?" Tong Fang’s expression darkened.

She hastily shook her head. "Never mind who. I’m fine—just the treats got crushed, so Tong Yuan can’t have them. Tong, I heard you’re getting married soon. Congratulations."

His expression shifted slightly. "How did you know?"

It wasn’t set in stone yet, but he was into Yuan Jiayin. Barring any surprises, they would likely marry, so he didn’t correct her.

Jiang Ningning smiled bitterly. "Yin-jie told me. I never saw you two coming."

Tong Fang caught on fast. "Did she mess with you?"

It was no secret that Yuan Jiayin had been deceived by Jiang Mingrui before, so it wouldn’t be surprising if she went after Jiang Ningning.

"Did she do this to you?"

Jiang Ningning clasped her hands behind her back and hurriedly denied, "No, it wasn't her!"

But the more she denied it, the more certain Tong Fang became.

"She took her anger out on you. Your brother's matter had nothing to do with you. I apologize on her behalf."

Hearing his words, Jiang Ningning felt no sense of triumph.

This meant he subconsciously counted Yuan Jiayin as close to him, while she was an outsider.

"Brother Tong, I don’t need an apology. I had this coming."

Tong Fang disagreed, "What did you do wrong? She’s innocent, and so are you. Those cuts need tending to. Let me get you some ointment and bring it to where you're staying."

Jiang Ningning teared up. "Would that get you in trouble? I’m afraid Sis Yin might misunderstand."

Tong Fang patted his chest. "My conscience is clear. There’s nothing to misunderstand."

Jiang Ningning looked so pitiful that no decent man could just walk away.
