Chapter 5: Saving Lives (Part Two)

Su Mo was still being held tightly and couldn't escape. A girl gripped her arm firmly, hiding behind her.

With no other choice, Su Mo clutched the badminton racket in her hand, planning to get through this ordeal first.

On the square, about ten zombies gradually gathered, marching towards the group of people in a mighty horde.

A few zombies still had crimson flesh hanging from their mouths, and their red-stained nails waved in the air as they roared and attacked Su Mo's position.

Su Mo struggled to control her trembling heart, focusing all her attention on the zombies to prevent any sneak attacks.

No matter how well you defend yourself, it's hard to guard against a backstab.

"Ahhhh!!!" The scream didn't come from Su Mo but from the girl hiding behind her.

The girl, clearly terrified, suddenly pushed Su Mo forward as the zombies drew near.

Caught off guard, Su Mo was thrust within inches of the zombies, their grotesque faces looming large.

Su Mo felt utterly despair. She hadn't expected that her roommate, whom she had spent every day with, would betray her and push her towards death.

Face to face with the zombies, Su Mo closed her eyes, awaiting her impending death.

    This was it.

    ……

A few seconds later, the expected pain of being ripped apart didn't come. Su Mo opened her eyes and saw Xiao Hua.

Having successfully rescued her, Xiao Hua breathed a sigh of relief. She had rushed over as soon as she spotted the situation, just in time.

"Come on!" Xiao Hua urged Su Mo, looking at her, slightly disdainful.

Logically, the death of the female supporting character was somehow linked to the female lead. The wisest course of action would have been to let the female lead die, eliminating all possibilities.

But Xiao Hua wasn't a ruthless person at heart. As a good citizen raised under the five-starred red flag and a pillar of society, she still wanted to save someone if she had the ability to protect herself.

    Consider it her lingering conscience.

Su Mo finally snapped out of her daze and hurriedly ran towards Xiao Hua.

Only then did she notice the rope tied around Xiao Hua's wrist and the hook-shaped weapon in her hand. Each time Xiao Hua swung it, she would hook a zombie's head, and with a pull, the zombie would be decapitated.

Occasionally, a small cluster of white light would glow on the hook.

In less than a minute, all the zombies around Su Mo had been decapitated by Xiao Hua, leaving the group stunned.

Those who knew Xiao Hua were secretly astonished. Was Xiao Hua always this formidable?

Xiao Hua didn't look at the few people, especially the girl who had pushed someone into danger. She was afraid she might not be able to resist hitting her.

No matter the reason, using someone as a human shield was reprehensible. If Xiao Hua had arrived a few seconds later, Su Mo would have been torn to shreds.

Xiao Hua only looked at Su Mo and asked, "Are you coming with me?"

The female lead had it incredibly tough in the early stages. She really couldn't stand by and watch anymore.

Before Su Mo could respond, the sharp-tongued girl spoke up again. "Xiao Hua! Su Mo is just a liability. She's still feverish. Saving her will only cause you trouble!"

The girl could tell that Xiao Hua was extremely strong. With her around, Su Mo would definitely live. Hadn't she seen those decapitated zombies?

She felt even more bitter. How unfair! Why was it that Su Mo, who had already rejected Senior Jiang, was still able to survive against all odds even when surrounded by zombies?!

Wouldn't it be better if she just died?!

As a certain philosopher once said: The people who are jealous of you are often those around you.

Xiao Hua felt a bit pleased upon hearing this.

A fever? Wasn't this a sign that the protagonist was about to awaken her healing powers? Yesterday, she had forgotten to prepare any medicine, so this was perfect.

However, it wasn't over yet. Senior Jiang interjected again, "Xiao Hua, Su Mo is just a rookie. How about you join us instead? An alliance of the strong, what do you say?"

    Xiao Hua: "..."

Xiao Hua couldn't contain herself anymore. "Fuck off, I'll do whatever I want, and I'll do it with integrity. What the hell is it to you?

An alliance with this idiot? Who gave you the courage, Liang Jingru?"

Xiao Hua resisted the urge to thoroughly insult them and ignored them. She asked Su Mo again, "Are you coming with me?"

Su Mo, tears welling in her eyes, looked deeply moved. "Yes."

"Alright." After receiving her reply, Xiao Hua wasted no more time and led Su Mo away.

"Xiao Hua! Don't be ungrateful!" Over there, the previously "politely reprimanded" Senior Jiang, now furious, shouted at Xiao Hua and tried to shove Su Mo again.

He didn't dare to provoke Xiao Hua directly. She clearly wasn't someone to be trifled with.

And Xiao Hua really wasn't someone to mess with. She caught Senior Jiang's falling arm with her right hand and twisted it gently.

"Crack," the sound of the joint being dislocated.

Then she kicked him in the knee. As Senior Jiang stumbled and knelt down, her long leg rose high, and her heel landed heavily on the back of his neck, knocking him flat on the ground.

Senior Jiang's face hit the ground, blood mixing with mud and dust, creating a gruesome and pitiful sight.

Xiao Hua looked down at him with a condescending gaze and remarked poetically, "Some people's faces are as ugly as a miscarriage of justice."

In her mind, she cursed, 'Fuck you, you little trash! Can't even play fair! Bullying a weak woman, scum!'

She gave him a look so cold it exuded sheer elegance and aloofness. Then she turned to Su Mo. "Let's go."

    Su Mo: "...Okay."
