Chapter 33: Cooperation (Part 2)
by 狡猾天狗Chapter 33: Cooperation (Part 2)
C City First Hospital.
Xiao Hua looked through the iron gate and saw tall and burly zombies crowded together outside, jostling each other.
That was just the situation outside; the inside was still a mystery.
"Old Bai, you take command." Xiao Zui, aware that he wasn't calm enough in battle, readily handed the command to Bai Mu.
Bai Mu accepted without hesitation and began assigning roles: "Formation 2-1-2. Xiao Zui and Xiao Hua, take the southeast and northwest corners as the main attack. Zhao Ye and I will take the northeast and southwest corners to assist. Su Mo, stay in the center and keep formation."
As the iron gate opened, Xiao Hua fell into position, ready to unleash her powers, and couldn't help but say, "The zombies outside are so strong. There should be plenty of enhanced ones inside. Brothers, let's tear them apart!"
Uh-oh, her excitement always got the better of her, and she couldn't help but speak without thinking.
Zhao Ye was taken aback, "I should be the one saying that kind of stuff, right?"
"Not bad, Zhao Ye, at least you know your place." Xiao Hua continued to tease, but her hands moved swiftly.
Ice crystals shot out at precise angles, striking the zombies' vital points and mowing them down like grass.
The slightly tougher ones that didn't die immediately were finished off by Xiao Zui's lightning, living up to his "Thunderblade" reputation.
Ice shards flew, lightning crackled, and bullets zipped through the air, creating a chaotic yet mesmerizing scene.
In less than ten minutes, all the zombies were slaughtered, with little strain on Xiao Hua and Xiao Zui's powers.
Zhao Ye watched in awe, "Having two attack-type enhanced individuals really makes a difference... damn it!"
Xiao Hua quickly turned her head to see a tall zombie charging straight at Zhao Ye from the front right. Xiao Zui immediately released lightning, slowing the zombie's speed with a crackling sound.
Xiao Hua maintained formation but raised her right hand, shooting out a large number of ice crystals to leave the zombie nowhere to hide, intending to take it out immediately.
However, this was a level two, earth-type zombie.
Level two zombies had some intelligence. Instead of charging mindlessly forward, it stopped and raised a wall of earth in front of it, blocking all attacks.
A brutal fight was inevitable. Xiao Zui and Zhao Ye rushed to the front, while Xiao Hua once again gathered her powers, waiting for the right opportunity.
Unfortunately, as if adding insult to injury or perhaps as expected, Bai Mu, who had been directing the attack on the earth-type zombie, lost his voice for a moment, then shouted, "Behind!"
Xiao Hua spun around and only caught a glimpse of a shadow attacking Bai Mu. Bai Mu couldn't retreat without exposing Su Mo in the center of the formation.
In the nick of time, an ice wall covered Bai Mu completely, successfully blocking the shadowy zombie and sending it crashing into the wall, disoriented.
Xiao Hua quickly moved forward and repeated her tactic, shooting a wave of ice crystals at the zombie. But it dodged all the attacks aimed at its vital points, only getting hit in the arms and legs, which barely hurt.
Hell!
One attack was entirely blocked, and another was completely dodged. Xiao Hua was getting frustrated and understood the need for a quick resolution. Gritting her teeth, Xiao Hua charged at the speed-type zombie, ready to engage in close combat.
The zombie, seeing Xiao Hua charging at it, immediately took the shortest straight line and lunged at her, clawing wildly.
And once again, it ran into an ice wall.
Nice try, but I, Xiao Hua, don't make mistakes like that.
Feeling smug inside, Xiao Hua manipulated the ice wall to fall and pin the zombie down, then quickly pulled out a dagger, stabbed it into the zombie's brain with precision, and extracted the crystal nucleus with a twist of her wrist.
Xiao Hua finally dealt with her side, and the other side was also nearing the end.
The gap in levels wasn't a joke. The level two earth-type zombie was well-rounded in both offense and defense, alternating between earth walls and spikes.
Without any powers, Zhao Ye couldn't help, leaving Xiao Zui overwhelmed.
However, Bai Mu stepped up.
As soon as Xiao Hua took down the speed-type zombie, Bai Mu vanished into thin air. A minute later, he reappeared behind the earth-type zombie, who sensed something but couldn't react fast enough. With a swift slash, Bai Mu decapitated it.
Xiao Hua tossed the speed-type zombie's crystal nucleus she had just dug out to Bai Mu. She felt a twinge of disappointment at not finding an ice-type crystal nucleus, but it was to be expected.
Ice and water powers weren't common in the apocalypse, which is why water sources were so tightly controlled and scarce. Thinking about the protagonists' lightning and healing powers, Xiao Hua felt reassured.
After the grueling battle, the five of them settled into their usual formation to rest, while Su Mo tended to their injuries one by one.
Fighting two level two zombies had taken a huge toll.
The mental and physical strain was overwhelming.
Recalling the just-concluded battle, Xiao Hua felt both thrill and danger.
Before reaching level three, zombies had limited intelligence and could be outsmarted easily. After level three… they became closer to human intelligence.
The road ahead was fraught with danger, but Xiao Hua found herself strangely excited for what lay ahead. She was eager to see the legendary higher-level zombies.
Bai Mu was making further arrangements and discussed with Xiao Zui, "Rest for fifteen minutes, then bypass the patient area and enter the medical supply area. How about it?"
"No problem, you're in charge." Xiao Zui was very generous with his authority, not acting like a captain at all.
Xiao Hua couldn't help but feel a bit amused by the dynamic between Bai Mu and Xiao Zui. They worked together so seamlessly, almost like they were meant to be a team.
Life was too dull; she needed to find some entertainment.
