Chapter 209: Things Are Not That Simple (Part 2)
by 狡猾天狗Chapter 209: Things Are Not That Simple (Part 2)
Life is full of surprises, and perhaps fate didn’t want Xiao Hua’s journey to be too easy. After Lin Feng led the Sharp Claw Squad to the location he remembered, Xiao Hua discovered—
Things were really, really not that simple.
The Sharp Claw Squad stood outside a dilapidated wooden hut. Xiao Hua looked ahead and saw no other scenery around; ten meters away was the small hut.
Xiao Hua stopped in her tracks and shot a glance at Bai Mu, then turned her gaze to the hut not far away. Her eyelids twitched involuntarily.
Everything seemed to be on track, but she felt a strange unease.
"This is the place!" Lin Feng stood to her left, looking at the hut with excitement, too eager to hold back. After speaking, his pace quickened as he moved toward the destination.
Xiao Hua hesitated as she saw Lin Feng’s hurried demeanor. She wanted to remind him that something didn’t feel right, but after a moment of deep thought, she still couldn’t figure out what was wrong.
Seeing this, she bit back her words. Considering Lin Feng’s current lack of combat ability, she tsked and quickly followed.
"Creak."
The wooden door had already been pushed open by Lin Feng, creaking with age. Anxiety was written all over his face as he rushed into the house.
"This guy’s been through it twice, how can he still be so careless? Rushing in without thinking, isn’t he asking for trouble?"
Xiao Hua frowned and muttered as she and Bai Mu hurried to follow, her irritation growing.
Lin Feng wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, but how could he be this foolish?
They crossed the ten-meter distance in no time. Xiao Hua pulled Bai Mu across the threshold and looked up to see the scene inside the house—a rundown room, empty except for Lin Feng, who was searching everywhere.
Xiao Hua moved closer and noticed that the hut wasn’t very large; it could be taken in at a glance, and there was indeed no sign of Dr. Cao and his group.
She was still piecing things together, unsure why there was no one here. Moreover, she couldn’t shake the feeling that this hut was off.
She casually touched the wooden table in the room, and a cold, hard sensation shot through her hand.
No, this place is definitely off, Xiao Hua thought to herself, silently correcting her initial assumption.
Lin Feng was still darting around the room, his body tense and silent, clearly on edge.
Suddenly, he stopped in front of a wall, as if he had discovered something.
Xiao Hua noticed Lin Feng’s pause out of the corner of her eye and also stopped, then quickly walked over to examine it. "Did you find something?"
Lin Feng glanced back at Xiao Hua, his eyes bloodshot and red.
Xiao Hua hesitated, then stepped forward, moving closer to Lin Feng. She looked at his unusual expression and asked, "What’s going on with you?"
Lin Feng stared at Xiao Hua with his crimson eyes for a moment, not saying a word.
Suddenly, he lunged forward, his hands raised high and swinging down at an almost imperceptible speed.
"Clang!"
Xiao Hua’s ice shield collided with Lin Feng’s sharp claws, letting out a harsh, grating screech. The next second, the ice shield shattered, and she took the opportunity to pull Bai Mu back.
However, the distance between the three was too close, and Lin Feng had launched his attack suddenly. Xiao Hua couldn’t effectively defend in time, and it seemed he was about to attack Bai Mu.
Yes, Lin Feng was attacking Bai Mu.
It was impossible for both of them to escape unscathed. Xiao Hua gritted her teeth and forcefully yanked Bai Mu away, but she couldn’t dodge in time and was seized by Lin Feng by the arm.
Lin Feng’s current state was clearly abnormal, showing no mercy whatsoever. His razor-sharp claws tore through the flesh on Xiao Hua’s arm, and then he swiftly exerted force, attempting to wrench off her arm, as if reenacting a post-apocalyptic version of the infamous martial arts rivalry between “Guo Fu” and “Yang Guo” from Chinese literature.
Xiao Hua’s heartbeat surged. She forced herself to stay calm, her eyes flicking down to her restrained arm. She clenched her fist so tightly that her nails dug deep into her palm, but she felt no pain.
Without hesitation, she followed the momentum of Lin Feng’s grip, twisting her body slightly, and then jerked herself free.
A chunk of flesh was ripped from Xiao Hua’s arm, now clinging to Lin Feng’s long, sharp nails.
