    Chapter 21: Decision (Part 1)

Tang Yi, being the closest, stood up and opened the door. Captain Li appeared before them once again.

    "Captain Li, hello."

Captain Li looked at the seven people in the room. Among them, four were powerful **enhanced individuals**, with abilities ranging from attack, healing, to spatial manipulation, while the other three were highly skilled **special forces soldiers**.

These people were the ones who could survive well in this chaotic world.

Captain Li felt their strength once more and silently confirmed that he had made the right decision.

With that in mind, he spoke with an unusual level of respect. "Hello, **Xiao Zui**, everyone. I'm here to ask for your help this time.

I would like to request that you take us to the temporary base, and I am willing to fully cooperate with your actions."

Xiao Zui and Bai Mu exchanged glances, and then Bai Mu stepped forward to handle the conversation. "May I ask, since you have your own superior, why do you want to join us?"

Hearing this, Captain Li bitterly smiled and replied truthfully, "With the advent of the apocalypse, the leadership structure has changed dramatically, and they are all competing with each other.

My direct superior has even turned into a zombie. We, the ones under him, need to find ways to protect ourselves."

Bai Mu didn't let Captain Li off the hook. "You have your own troops, and there are some **enhanced individuals** among the survivors who can be used for your benefit. Why would you lower your **position**?"

Captain Li said, "I know my own capabilities. I can't shoulder such a huge responsibility."

Before the apocalypse, he had 120 soldiers under him. Later, some soldiers turned into zombies, and with the losses from this rescue mission, he now had 91 people left, and that was with the help of Xiao Zui and the others.

If these few left, the fate of the remaining people would be uncertain, let alone the many survivors.

It was better to recognize the situation early to survive in this chaotic world.

"One last question," Bai Mu's words were still sharp, "When you say 'take us with you,' who exactly are you referring to?"

Captain Li replied, "Me and my soldiers. As for the others, you can decide their fate."

Bai Mu didn't give an immediate answer but said, "This matter is of great importance. Let us discuss it first and then give you our answer, alright?"

    Could Captain Li refuse?

"Alright." After all, he was asking for their help, and Bai Mu’s attitude was perfectly fine.

After saying that, Captain Li left in a hurry again.

After hearing the full story, Bai Mu let out a soft sigh. "This isn't something we can decide on our own. We need to report to our superiors first."

Xiao Zui nodded in agreement. "Yes, I'll report to General Zou first."

While they were discussing, Xiao Hua picked up a crystal nucleus and started absorbing it.

Fifteen minutes later, Xiao Zui came down from upstairs and faced everyone.

"General Zou indicated that we should take this company with us, **decide what to do with the survivors**, and then head to Base F City, but we should prioritize our own safety."

Xiao Zui looked at Bai Mu with a frown and asked, "Any thoughts?"

Bai Mu, however, turned to the newly awake Xiao Hua. "Xiao Hua, any thoughts?"

"Huh?" Suddenly being cued, Xiao Hua looked confused. "If they want to come along, fine. If not, it’s no big deal."

"Makes sense." Bai Mu nodded in agreement with an approving look. "Our lives are our own, and the choice should be left to them."

In this apocalypse, they couldn’t guarantee their own safety, much less anyone else’s.

If the survivors decided to come with them on the long journey, they’d do their best to keep them safe. If the survivors chose to leave for L City, they would let them go.

The same went for the soldiers.

After a few minutes, Xiao Zui nodded. "Alright, let’s go with that."

He then turned to Xiao Hua and Su Mo. "The situation in C City is dire. We’re heading to Base F City. Are you both coming along?"

Of course, he was mostly asking Su Mo.

But Su Mo glanced at Xiao Hua, waiting for her to speak.

Xiao Hua stretched lazily, her expression indifferent. "Might as well! I don’t have any other family or friends left, so it doesn’t really matter where we end up."

Su Mo smiled shyly at Xiao Zui. "Thank you for taking care of us."

After that, Bai Mu and Xiao Zui hashed out the basic plan. Once they had a plan, they called Captain Li back to discuss the timing, strategy, and route.

Zhao Ye crouched in the corner, whining in frustration. "I can’t figure out what’s going through the boss’s and Brother Bai’s heads. What is this all about!"

Han Xiu Jie looked at him with contempt. "Do you even need to think? What are you whining about?"

Su Mo, who was about to voice her agreement, swallowed her words.

Xiao Hua could understand their conversation and even join in, but she was afraid of breaking her character’s persona, so she remained silent.
