Chapter 37: Alone Again
by 狡猾天狗Chapter 37: Alone Again
Xiao Hua sat in the passenger seat next to Brother Bai as they drove toward the village.
The last time they were alone, Brother Bai was unaware of his feelings, but this time he was no longer oblivious.
Brother Bai drove while returning to the earlier topic, "Xiao Hua, am I really that old?"
Xiao Hua: "..."
He’s not going to drop it, huh?
Seeing Brother Bai's slightly melancholic expression, Xiao Hua relented and explained, "No, Brother Bai, I was just teasing Zhao Ye. You're not old, not at all."
"Really? I'm the oldest in the team," Brother Bai said, seemingly unconvinced, still wearing that wistful look.
"Absolutely, Brother Bai! You’re mature, and when you plan everything out and lead everyone, it’s seriously impressive. Girls find that really attractive."
Brother Bai looked at Xiao Hua, blinking gently before smiling with pleasure, "I hope so."
Through the car window, endless fields of golden wheat stretched out before them.
But Brother Bai kept driving, passing by the fields without stopping.
Seeing the retreating scenery, Xiao Hua asked curiously, "Brother Bai, aren’t we going to gather anything?"
"We'll check the village first to see if there are any survivors, to confirm if these fields are unowned."
"If they are owned? Do we not touch them?" Xiao Hua asked, though she didn’t think Brother Bai would leave them alone.
Sure enough, Brother Bai turned to look at Xiao Hua and raised an eyebrow slightly, "Of course not. We'll take a little, leave some for them."
Xiao Hua tapped her forehead, smiled, and agreed, "Got it!"
The car drove directly into the village, and within ten minutes, they had circled the entire village without seeing a single person.
But Brother Bai didn’t leave immediately, driving around the village again, revisiting the places they had passed.
Xiao Hua didn’t question him, her eyes scanning the surroundings through the window, feeling that something was off.
"Stop!" Xiao Hua suddenly said.
Brother Bai hit the brakes immediately, stopping the car in the middle of the dirt road.
Through the window, Xiao Hua looked at an ordinary tiled house with a banner that read "May Family Harmony Bring Prosperity."
Xiao Hua remembered—the chapter where the group faced danger and the female supporting character died was titled "May Family Harmony Bring Prosperity."
This place should be that dungeon location.
This dungeon was a small-scale zombie horde.
In the original story, the female supporting character’s resentment toward the protagonist grew, and her conflict with the male lead deepened, culminating in a tragic confrontation here. Heartbroken by her brother’s decision to help strangers, she sneaked away, pretending to run away from home. This forced the group to abandon their plan to leave and stay behind to search for her, missing the best time to escape. As a result, they were overwhelmed by the zombie horde.
The consequence was the female supporting character’s death, Xiao Zui and Tang Yi’s severe injuries, and the protagonist doing everything she could to keep them alive.
Xiao Zui gradually recovered, having the protagonist's luck and the female lead's favor.
However, Tang Yi’s injuries were too severe to heal, and his strength couldn’t improve further. He ultimately died in a later battle.
Now, only Xiao Hua and Bai Mu remained.
As Xiao Hua was still recalling the original story, the roars of zombies could already be heard from afar.
The roars grew louder and more frequent. In less than a minute, over a hundred zombies swarmed the exit, with even more pouring out of the village.
Bai Mu slammed on the gas, trying to charge through.
"There are many level two zombies, we can't rush out," Xiao Hua stopped Bai Mu.
That was a move that had already failed in the book, and they were only two people now.
Xiao Hua stared at the wave of zombies, then glanced at the tiled house with the "Family Harmony, All Things Prosper" sign, and quickly made up her mind.
Without looking back, Xiao Hua smiled.
"Brother Bai, want to take a gamble?"
Following Xiao Hua’s gaze, Bai Mu spotted the tiled house. His eyes gleamed, and he smiled back.
"Alright."
A level three zombie controlling the horde?
Then they’d go for the leader first.
Either we succeed, or we fail spectacularly.
