A few more days had passed since the last news about Dr. Cao, and everything was still running smoothly.

That night, Bai Mu suddenly called out to Xiao Hua, "Xiao Hua."

Xiao Hua stopped her steps on the way upstairs and turned to look at Bai Mu standing at the bottom of the stairs. "What's up?"

Bai Mu quickly walked up to stand beside Xiao Hua, smiling as he spoke. "I went to the mission hall today and checked out a few missions. Can you help me review them, please?"

"No problem." Xiao Hua nodded without hesitation, but after taking two steps, she paused and asked, "Why not ask my brother?"

Xiao Zui was the deputy captain after all; why not go to him?

Bai Mu looked at Xiao Hua and smiled gently, then glanced toward the upper floor. "His room is empty."

"Empty?" Xiao Hua was stunned for a second before understanding the unspoken meaning behind Bai Mu's words.

Xiao Hua twitched her mouth and asked hesitantly, "Is anyone in Xiao Mo's room?"

Bai Mu coughed lightly. "There's talking, but I didn't check."

Xiao Hua: "..."

Indeed, better not to check. If they ran into something blindingly bright, it would be a tragedy for three people.

Leaning against the stair railing, Bai Mu watched Xiao Hua's expression and chuckled. "Xiao Zui skipped duty, and as his younger sister, Xiao Hua, you definitely can't shirk your responsibility."

Just covering for her irresponsible brother and aiding the main couple's romance?

After mentally preparing herself, Xiao Hua continued to follow Bai Mu to the third floor and was about to enter Bai Mu's room.

Xiao Hua's eyes suddenly narrowed, and she swiftly raised her hand, launching a barrage of ice spikes, her gaze sharply sweeping toward a corner.

"Who?!"

Almost at the same time, Bai Mu flipped his wrist, drew his gun, chambered a round, and fired at the same corner.

The attack was easily deflected, and just as Xiao Hua was about to press on, a figure emerged from the corner, accompanied by a human voice.

"It's me, Lin Feng."

Once Xiao Hua recognized the figure, she lowered her hand, her expression still cold and guarded. "What do you want?"

"To fulfill a promise." After some time apart, Lin Feng had recovered well and could speak normally like a human.

In the darkness, Lin Feng's grayish skin wasn't clearly visible, which instead highlighted his superior features.

A smile tugged at Lin Feng's lips, giving off a slightly roguish charm. "I promised I'd come find you, and here I am."

Xiao Hua: "..."

Xiao Hua simply replied, "Oh."

"She actually didn't really want him to come."

Lin Feng stared at Xiao Hua, wearing a regretful look. "Don't you welcome me?"

"It's alright," Xiao Hua replied calmly, her expression showing little change. Seeing Lin Feng reminded her of something. "What about Dr. Cao?"

Lin Feng: "..."

Noticing his expression, Xiao Hua raised an eyebrow and drew out her tone, "Oh—Dr. Cao's not dead."

Lin Feng rubbed his nose and explained, "I already beat him into severe injury."

"Then?" Xiao Hua slightly turned her body, adopting a listening pose.

"Then, his powers were too bizarre. I got tricked and he escaped."

Xiao Hua nodded, commenting, "No surprise there."

Lin Feng was amused and slightly angered by Xiao Hua's reaction. "What do you mean by that?"

Xiao Hua's expression remained unchanged as she spoke seriously, "Nothing much, just noting how cunning Dr. Cao is."

Lin Feng sensed something was off but couldn't quite figure out what. He hesitated and nodded.

Bai Mu covered his mouth, secretly laughing beside them.

Lin Feng finally noticed Bai Mu. Seeing the two of them standing together, his eyes became wary. "What are you two doing?"

Xiao Hua looked at him, puzzled, "Discussing a mission. We need to eat."

They had been living off their savings for a month. If they didn't go out to take on some missions soon, they'd be starving.

Speaking of that, Xiao Hua finally remembered why they came upstairs.

She gave up on the small talk with Lin Feng and turned to Bai Mu, lifting her chin slightly and smiling at him. "Brother Bai, open the door."

"Sure," Bai Mu stepped forward, took out his key, unlocked the door, and pushed it open to walk in.

Xiao Hua followed Bai Mu into the room but noticed Lin Feng had tagged along too. She couldn't help but feel exasperated. "We're discussing a mission. Why are you tagging along?"

Lin Feng replied confidently, "Just looking around."
