Chapter 7: Escape (Part 2)
byChapter 7: Escape (Part 2)
Su Mo's face was a picture of confusion, "Superpowers?!"
"Yes," Xiao Hua explained, "It’s the end of the world now. Some turn into zombies, while others gain superpowers."
"My superpower is creating water and ice. It helps me fight zombies; otherwise, it wouldn’t be so easy."
"Wow~" Su Mo looked enviously.
Xiao Hua smiled indifferently and took out her phone, opening WeChat with its little red dot notifications. Xiao Zui’s messages were clearly listed.
"Xiao Zui: What's wrong?"
"Xiao Zui: What happened?"
The timestamp was 10:00 AM.
"Xiao Zui: The outside world is in chaos. How are you doing?"
"Xiao Zui: Stay put, protect yourself, and wait for me to find you."
"Xiao Zui: Don’t worry, I'll reach your school by tomorrow at the latest."
The timestamp was 1:45 PM.
Following those were four missed video calls.
Xiao Hua glanced down and replied briefly:
"Xiao Hua: You don't need to come. I've already left the school."
"Xiao Hua: If nothing goes wrong, I'll be home by tomorrow."
Relying on others isn’t as reliable as relying on herself. This journey would be a good opportunity to train and adapt to the apocalypse.
Xiao Hua checked the time: 3:15 PM.
She closed her phone and asked politely, "I’m heading to Mingxuan Road to find my brother. What about you?"
"I… I don’t have any family," Su Mo said nervously, "...Can I go with you?"
After saying that, Su Mo huddled like a quail, too afraid to meet Xiao Hua’s gaze.
"You can. But let’s get one thing straight. When we encounter zombies, I don’t expect you to be particularly useful, but you must follow my commands and not slow me down."
"If you can’t do that," Xiao Hua smiled, "I can save you, but I can also abandon you."
Su Mo breathed a sigh of relief, "Yes, yes, no problem!"
She had automatically ignored the last part, firmly believing that Xiao Hua was a kind, little angel.
Little did she know, Xiao Hua wasn’t joking.
If Su Mo really becomes a liability, Xiao Hua will indeed leave her behind.
She could be kind, but never a saint.
Xiao Hua chose Su Mo because, though weak, she didn’t scream foolishly when facing zombies. Even when terrified, she still pushed through and followed instructions.
In an apocalyptic world where going it alone is not suitable, Su Mo was a competent teammate.
"Do you know the way?" Xiao Hua suddenly thought of this—although she had the memories of the original owner, there were still some things she was not very familiar with.
For example, not knowing the roads.
"I know," Su Mo had been to the nearby area and still remembered the way.
Xiao Hua was satisfied, "Alright, let's depart then."
However, Su Mo had some concerns, "I only know the road to the city center, what if there are many zombies?"
"Kill our way through," Xiao Hua raised her eyebrows and dropped this line confidently.
It was the first day of the apocalypse, when zombies were at their weakest and fewest. Later on, it would truly become a living hell and a zombie haven.
The tone was a bit arrogant but strangely gave Su Mo a sense of security. From what she had seen with her own eyes, Xiao Hua had already killed more than a dozen zombies and indeed had the right to say this.
...
As Su Mo had said, there were not only many zombies on the road but also occasional animals that would suddenly appear and impede the car's progress.
After driving for more than ten minutes, the car came to a stop. Ahead, three zombies were wandering side by side on the street, vividly demonstrating "friends walking together for life."
The car's roaring engine immediately caught their attention.
Su Mo, seeing the zombies approaching them, was so scared that her voice trembled, "Xiao... Xiao Hua, what do we do?"
"Drive through," Xiao Hua was quite calm, without a ripple of emotion—just three of them, no big deal.
Xiao Hua: I'm feeling confident.
"...Ah?" Su Mo's mind went blank, how do they drive through?
Xiao Hua directly commanded, "Accelerate!"
Before Su Mo could fully process, the car had already sped forward, with the zombies now close at hand.
Seeing the grotesque zombies through the windshield, Su Mo felt her legs go weak again but knew she couldn't mess things up. She simply closed her eyes and stomped on the accelerator.
In an instant, the car hit the middle zombie, and the three zombies, linked together like a wall, caused the car to jolt to a stop. Seizing the opportunity, Xiao Hua climbed onto the roof of the car, swiftly hooked the middle zombie, yanked, and decapitated it. The zombie's head flew onto the car roof.
With the middle zombie killed, its body collapsed and could no longer block the car, which then crushed it.
Seeing their companion killed, the other two zombies were enraged and began furiously pursuing the car.
Xiao Hua's expression remained unchanged. She held onto the roof with her left hand to stabilize herself and raised her right hand, sending a volley of ice shards backward, successfully stopping the zombies.
The few seconds were truly intense. Su Mo watched as Xiao Hua climbed out of the car, killed the zombies, and skillfully evaded the pursuit.
After getting rid of the danger, Xiao Hua cracked open the zombie's head on the roof, retrieved the crystal nucleus, and kicked it off the car.
Xiao Hua returned to the car and looked at Su Mo, "If we encounter zombies again, just drive through, got it?"
"Got it!"
After that, Su Mo's courage grew, and every time they encountered zombies, she would step on the accelerator. Lone zombies were caught off guard and sent flying, while Xiao Hua would follow up, swiftly ending their lives.
By the end of the journey, Xiao Hua had killed many zombies and collected five crystal nuclei along the way, making it a very fruitful trip.
