Chapter 31: Mutual Wariness

When they arrived at the gas station, it was eerily quiet outside except for a few zombies, but a figure briefly appeared inside the convenience store.

Xiao Hua and Bai Mu exchanged a glance and said, "Should we make some noise?"

"Hmm." Bai Mu smiled, fully agreeing.

The two got out of the car, acting as if they hadn’t seen the person inside the convenience store.

Xiao Hua took out each approaching zombie with headshots, closely protecting Bai Mu and clearing all obstacles for him.

Bai Mu openly siphoned the gasoline from the tank and collected it without any hesitation.

Perhaps the people inside were too afraid of the zombies—or of Xiao Hua and Bai Mu—as they stayed hidden like scared rabbits, not daring to come out.

Xiao Hua and Bai Mu acted casual but kept a close eye on the people inside. Seeing their reaction, they didn’t push them to come out and start trouble, choosing instead to stay on guard.

Xiao Hua watched as Bai Mu drained three large boxes of gasoline but left the last one untouched. She didn’t say anything or do anything about the other people or the crystal core. She only left quickly with Bai Mu, heading to the next gas station.

Once they were completely gone, five young people slowly emerged from the convenience store—four men and one woman.

The young woman was the first to speak up, asking one of the men, "Kong Yu, why didn’t you let us go out just now?"

Kong Yu snapped, "We wouldn’t stand a chance."

The woman wasn’t convinced. "The four of us are enhanced people; how could we not win?"

Kong Yu frowned, not bothering to respond to her.

The atmosphere grew tense, and finally, another man spoke up, "Ah Yu, we trust you, but you should at least explain the reason, right?"

Kong Yu’s expression turned cold. This was trust?

But he didn’t bother arguing with them, explaining impatiently, "That woman is very strong; all of us together couldn’t beat her. Moreover, that man has two powers."

He was, of course, talking about Xiao Hua and Bai Mu.

"You’re serious?"

Kong Yu sneered, "And it’s the first time I’ve been unable to gauge how strong someone is."

Hearing this, everyone fell silent.

The moment Xiao Hua walked in, she noticed Tang Yi’s face had lost its pallor and now glowed with a healthy flush. 'You’re looking much better already!' she remarked, surprised.

Xiao Hua had expected it to take at least three or four days, which suggested Su Mo’s healing powers had significantly improved.

"Actually, he’s running a fever!" Su Mo immediately replied, her tone filled with excitement.

This could mean Tang Yi was about to unlock his own powers, giving their group an even bigger boost.

Bai Mu glanced around and saw that everyone was beaming. Even the usually reserved Tang Yi couldn’t hide his excitement.

"Nice one, we got an unexpected bonus. Xiao Yi, you need to focus on getting better and stay out of the field for now," Bai Mu said.

Tang Yi hesitated, but knowing his condition, he nodded in agreement. After packing up, the six of them made their way back to the gym before nightfall to discuss their next move with Xiao Zui.
