Chapter 108 – Protective
by 狡猾天狗Chapter 108 - Protective
Lin Feng acted as if he was back in his own home, looking around and touching things here and there.
Xiao Hua sighed inwardly, thinking Bai Mu was way too patient, and noticed he didn’t say anything, allowing Lin Feng to wander around. If anyone dared to do that in her room, she’d rip their head off.
But since Bai Mu hadn’t said anything, Xiao Hua, as an outsider, didn’t have the right to interfere.
She tried her best to ignore the “pest” running around and sat on the couch with Bai Mu to discuss the mission.
Before she could say anything, Lin Feng suddenly barged over and stared at Xiao Hua.
Xiao Hua: “……”
Xiao Hua tried to hold back but couldn’t help asking, “What is it?”
Lin Feng looked around the room and tilted his head to comment, “Your room is all dark—doesn’t look like a girl’s room at all.”
Xiao Hua rolled her eyes and didn’t respond.
Bai Mu gently spoke up, “This is my room.”
Lin Feng looked shocked and whipped his head toward Bai Mu.
Xiao Hua frowned, what’s wrong with this guy, “Do you have something to say?”
“In the middle of the night, how can a guy and a girl be alone together?”
Xiao Hua lifted her eyelids and looked at Lin Feng for a few seconds, expressionless. “What, aren’t you human?”
Lin Feng held back for a moment. “Of course, I’m not just a person!”
Xiao Hua: “……”
Yeah, she couldn’t exactly argue with that.
“No,” Lin Feng snapped back, “if I hadn’t shown up tonight, wouldn’t it have just been the two of you here?”
Xiao Hua nodded, looking at him with an unhurried expression. “Yes.”
“Aren’t you worried about what he might do?” Lin Feng looked at Xiao Hua, frustrated by her indifference.
Xiao Hua scoffed, her mouth moving faster than her brain. “It’s always me forcing others, there’s no chance for others to force me.”
Lin Feng: “……”
Bai Mu: “……”
Bai Mu gave a light, helpless cough, covering his mouth. “Xiao Hua.”
Xiao Hua’s body stiffened, her expression becoming slightly rigid.
Crap, she’d let it slip.
Crying inside, Xiao Hua tried to maintain her composure and quickly attempted to salvage the situation.
“What I mean is, I’m stronger than others, so I won’t be at a disadvantage. And Brother Bai’s got integrity—he wouldn’t pull something like that.”
"How can you be so sure his character is fine?" Lin Feng pouted, convinced that he saw right through Bai Mu's intentions.
Xiao Hua couldn’t hold it in any longer before Bai Mu could even respond to the blatant slander.
She looked at Lin Feng and scoffed, "Because of the camaraderie we've built during our daily survival in the apocalypse, I trust him. Should I trust you instead?"
Lin Feng turned his head and saw Bai Mu sitting there calmly, staying out of it, which infuriated him even more. He moved closer to Bai Mu, "He's harboring ulterior motives!"
Seeing this, Xiao Hua, fearing that Lin Feng might do something to Bai Mu, raised an arm to block him, her expression turning icy cold. "Want to fight?"
Lin Feng: "..."
Lin Feng: "You ungrateful fool!"
Xiao Hua nodded and continued, "I must be blind."
Lin Feng was so angry that he stormed off.
Bai Mu watched Lin Feng walk away with a gentle smile, then turned to look at Xiao Hua tenderly. "Thank you, Xiao Hua."
Xiao Hua waved her hand generously. "No problem, don't mention it. I can't figure out what's going on in that guy's head, targeting you out of nowhere."
"I don't know either." Bai Mu smiled warmly, innocent and gentle.
But in his heart, he was thinking, What's in his head is exactly what's in mine. Otherwise, why would I react so strongly?
Thinking this, Bai Mu's mood suddenly soured.
If he had known things would turn out like this, he should have coaxed Xiao Hua to leave and let Lin Feng fend for himself. He could have even made things worse for him—why should I have bothered saving him?
Noticing Bai Mu lost in thought, Xiao Hua waited a moment before waving her hand in front of him.
With a smile, she asked, "Brother Bai, are you affected by Lin Feng? Should I go beat him up for you?"
Bai Mu saw Xiao Hua's oblivious expression and pushed down the dark thoughts rising in his heart.
Besides, Xiao Hua has no romantic interest in him. He’s just an outsider; there’s no need to worry too much.
"No," he lightly chuckled, "Besides, didn't you say we need to use him? How can we use him if we beat him up?"
"That doesn't mean he can just slander you like that." Xiao Hua was still upset about what Lin Feng had done, and seeing Bai Mu looking uninterested, she made up her mind.
"He still needs a good thrashing; let him experience some real hardship."
Bai Mu finally burst into laughter.
Xiao Hua rested her right hand on her cheek and lightly raised an eyebrow. "Feeling better now?"
"Feeling better now." Bai Mu looked at the person who went out of their way to cheer him up, his eyes crinkling with evident amusement.
Female lead’s mannerisms has always seemed ice cold like her superpowers however she wasn’t unfeeling. She has a penchant for helping others and is amicable so long as you don’t cross her.
Her recent behaviour towards Lin Feng (half zombie guy) is unpleasant to read about. The guy has done nothing to warrant this unfriendly attitude. The dude had been locked up and experimented on, only for his literal saviour to consider him a pest cause she can’t utilize his full zombie power. Everyone in that base, even the half dead Lin Feng can clock Bai mu’s ulterior motives.
