Chapter 114: Return to City C
by 狡猾天狗Chapter 114: Return to City C
No wonder City C is so remote. Back when Xiao Hua and the others traveled from City C to City F, it took them over half a month to reach their destination.
Now, without any survivors following them or a convoy slowing them down, only the seven members of the Vanguard Team—a specialized combat unit—along with Kong Yu and Luo Ning, made the journey non-stop.
They reached the outskirts of City C on the ninth day after departure.
As for why they brought Kong Yu and Luo Ning along:
First, Kong Yu's psychic powers were like a cheat code, making him an invaluable asset against enemies. It would be a waste not to use him.
Second, Luo Ning had awakened her powers the day after her birthday—metal manipulation.
Unlike Han Xiu Jie's ability to control metal, Luo Ning's powers leaned more towards pure offense, capable of creating golden needles to attack enemies.
This was somewhat similar to Xiao Hua's ice crystals.
Given time, Luo Ning was sure to grow into a formidable offensive enhanced individual.
To give her early training, they decided to bring her along.
Xiao Hua stepped out of the off-road vehicle, her feet hitting solid ground, and for a moment, she felt like she was back in heaven.
"Finally, we're in City C. If we kept going non-stop like this, I think I'd be wiped out," Su Mo rubbed her sore lower back and stood beside Xiao Hua, sighing.
Xiao Hua stretched and loosened her limbs, gazing at the city that had turned into ruins, with zombies roaming the streets, and shook her head.
"This godforsaken place still hides a den of extravagance."
Her gaze landed on a Level 3 hospital, and Xiao Hua suddenly felt a sense of familiarity. She turned to Bai Mu and asked, "Brother Bai, have we been here before?"
It had been over ten days since that unexpected night, and after several days of awkwardness, Xiao Hua had finally returned to normal.
Though it was all an act.
In truth, accidentally seeing something wasn't a big deal, and Xiao Hua thought it was nothing.
What really bothered her was the dream from that night, which still felt absurd whenever she recalled it.
"Yes, we came here once before when we were scavenging for medicine."
Bai Mu took out another map from his space. Xiao Hua thought it was still a map of City C, but upon closer inspection, she realized it was the blueprint of the hospital.
The preparation was too thorough.
Xiao Hua's eyes flickered slightly as she scrutinized the blueprint in Bai Mu's hands.
As she looked, her gaze unconsciously drifted back to Bai Mu, staring at him for a while.
Xiao Hua suddenly snapped out of it, mentally scolding herself for her sinful thoughts, and subtly lowered her gaze, pretending to focus on the blueprint.
Bai Mu seemed to sense something and looked up at Xiao Hua, noticing her gaze fixed on the blueprint in his hands. A faint sense of disappointment flickered in his heart.
But he quickly adjusted his emotions and smiled, handing the blueprint over, "Xiao Hua, do you want to take a look?"
Xiao Hua pulled her gaze away, which had nearly burned a hole in the blueprint, paused briefly, then casually took it, pretending to glance over it before handing it back.
"The hospital is huge. Do we really have to search the whole place?"
"Of course not," Bai Mu twirled the pen in his hand a few times, then crossed out certain areas, "We don't need the inpatient area."
Xiao Hua got it right away and nodded.
Xiao Zui hadn't caught on yet. He looked at the two who were being cryptic and couldn't help but ask, "Why?"
Bai Mu didn't speak, instead looking at Xiao Hua, clearly waiting for her to explain.
Xiao Hua took a shallow breath, avoiding Bai Mu's gaze, and smiled casually, "Of course, it's because there are too many people?"
"Oh, no," Xiao Hua suddenly realized that wasn't accurate and corrected herself, "Too many zombies."
"I know," Xiao Zui nodded, continuing to press, "But it's not like we can't handle them, why not go in?"
"What's our combat strength compared to others?" Xiao Hua laughed, raising an eyebrow at Xiao Zui, "You must’ve forgotten the rep of our first powers team."
Xiao Zui finally got it and cleared his throat, "Forgot."
Bai Mu listened quietly, then suddenly interjected, "Love makes you dumb."
Xiao Zui: "..."
Xiao Hua thought it made sense and nodded along.
Xiao Zui, feeling unfairly targeted, shot back, "Sounds like sour grapes to me."
Xiao Hua thought it made sense and nodded along once again.
Bai Mu just stared, speechless.
