Chapter 53 Zombie Horde (Part 2)

Xiao Hua walked down the South Gate and met up with Zhao Ye and two others.

"Sis Hua!" Zhao Ye hurried over and said, "Come with us!"

Xiao Hua joined them but, as they walked, she felt the number of people was off and looked at them. "Where are my brother and Brother Bai?"

Han Xiu Jie came over to explain, "The captain is the overall commander, and Brother Bai is in charge of the eastern section. Neither can leave easily."

"The bigger the power, the bigger the responsibility," Zhao Ye said with a pretentious sigh.

Xiao Hua nodded in understanding, and they all returned to the logistics department together.

Over the course of four hours, many exhausted enhanced individuals who had retreated midway were receiving treatment.

Su Mo had just finished treating someone when she saw Xiao Hua and the others. She immediately came over to ask, "How are you guys doing?"

Xiao Hua raised an eyebrow and smiled, looking relaxed, "We're all fine. Go attend to others."

They had been fighting zombies all the way from City C to City F, encountering them more than once, even in rainstorms without slacking off, using the kills to practice their skills.

This level of intensity was still pretty manageable for them.

Su Mo looked Xiao Hua and the other three up and down. After confirming they were okay, she immediately left to take care of others, not even noticing Xiao Zui and Bai Mu were absent.

She was clearly busy to the point of distraction.

Xiao Hua and the others didn’t bother her and found seats to sit and recover their powers.

Xiao Hua took out three tier 2 crystal nuclei to absorb. Within seconds, the nuclei were drained, shriveling up and then shattering into dust.

    Sigh.

Xiao Hua sighed in her heart. Even though she was already level three, most of the time she could only absorb tier 2 crystal nuclei to replenish her powers.

It’s barely enough to scratch the surface.

But along the way, they had only collected four tier 3 crystal nuclei in total. Xiao Hua, Bai Mu, and Xiao Zui each took one to advance, leaving a single ice-type nucleus with Xiao Hua.

    Why wasn’t she using it?

Of course, because it was precious. Tier 3 crystal nuclei could not only restore powers but also help Xiao Hua's abilities advance further; they had to be saved for critical moments.

As for why they only collected four, it was because they hadn’t encountered any level three zombies.

Xiao Hua thought that this time there should be a good number of level three zombies. The question was whether she could get her hands on a few more nuclei.

Given Bai Mu’s connection with General Zou, it should be doable, right?

The logistics department was bustling with people coming and going. After replenishing her powers, Xiao Hua took the chance to rest, preparing for the upcoming night battle.

The next shift was from 7 PM to 11 PM, when the zombies were most active.

Time passed quickly, and Xiao Hua headed back to the South Gate to face the zombie horde.

The sky had completely darkened, and wave after wave of zombies surged toward the city gate, growing more frenzied.

The zombies’ roars and the grating sound of their claws scraping the walls mingled, sending shivers down everyone’s spines in the chaotic night.

The night was a symbol of danger, and Xiao Hua was more cautious than during the day, using only her right hand to release her powers while gathering energy in her left, which remained hidden and unused.

Only when zombies tried to sneak up and climb the wall did Xiao Hua unleash her full power, dispatching them as quickly as possible.

This battle was grueling and lengthy, with many people coming and going, unable to last four hours before being replaced.

Xiao Hua focused on protecting those in danger, preventing them from being torn apart by the zombies.

Even this small act made a significant impact.

Casualties had already occurred at all four gates, with enhanced fighters turning into zombies in front of everyone, either killing their comrades or being killed by them.

The south gate had the lowest number of casualties.

At the east section, Bai Mu was in command, while at the west section, Xiao Hua occasionally saved people, and Xiao Zui helped out on both sides.

So far, at the south gate, only one enhanced fighter had fallen off the wall due to carelessness, while others had withdrawn due to exhaustion.

As the shift was about to change, the zombies below the wall suddenly surged forward, and a dozen wind-powered zombies leaped onto the wall in unison, as if following a hidden command.

Xiao Hua’s expression hardened, her eyes narrowing as she prepared for the incoming threat. A water dragon flew out from her left palm, growing larger in the air and dispersing to confront the zombies.

The night sky suddenly brightened as Xiao Zui’s lightning illuminated the surroundings.

All the enhanced fighters at the south gate saw the majestic water dragons blocking the fierce advance of the zombies.

The water dragons were surrounded by lightning, quickly forming an electric barrier that blocked the remaining zombies.

The water dragons and lightning complemented each other, working together to overwhelmingly swallow the zombies in the air.

Then the water dragons dispersed into countless ice crystals, carrying the lightning and rushing towards the zombies below the wall.

A blinding flash of lightning struck, wiping out a massive wave of zombies below, leaving a temporary gap in their ranks.

Their combined efforts boosted the morale of the enhanced fighters at the south gate.

Xiao Zui handed command over to Bai Mu and threw himself into the fight, while Xiao Hua stepped back to catch her breath.

The battle was too intense for Xiao Hua to leave; she took the opportunity to rest where she was.
