Chapter 86: Night Watch (Part 2)
by 狡猾天狗Chapter 86: Night Watch (Part 2)
Xiao Hua got Tang Yi talking, and soon he was chatting away about the team.
"I joined the military overseas a year ago. The first time I saw Brother Ye, I thought he was around my age and had enlisted young like me, so I greeted him. But when I arrived at the training ground, I found out he was an examiner."
Xiao Hua couldn't help but laugh as she listened. From just a few words, she could sense Tang Yi's embarrassment at that moment.
"I thought Brother Bai was just a clerk, someone who handled paperwork. Turns out, he was a special forces soldier and even the team leader back then."
Xiao Hua was initially surprised but quickly realized why Xiao Zui and the others were so used to following Brother Bai’s orders.
Curious, Xiao Hua asked, "What made Brother Bai become the vice-captain?"
Her imagination ran wild—could it have been because of a punishment? Before she could finish her thought, Tang Yi's answer came.
"Brother Bai was seriously injured six months ago and spent months recovering. When he returned, he took on the role of vice-captain."
With this explanation, Xiao Hua pieced together the fragments from before.
Feeling a surge of indignation, Xiao Hua asked, "Was he demoted just because of his injury?"
"No," Tang Yi hurriedly clarified. "Brother Bai requested it. He was planning to retire if the apocalypse hadn’t happened."
Hearing this, Xiao Hua finally calmed down.
Noticing the atmosphere had become stiff again, Xiao Hua rubbed her temples to ease the mood. "This is Brother Bai’s personal business. Why are you telling me all this?"
Tang Yi answered honestly, "Brother Bai won't mind."
The brothers knew Brother Bai well. He wouldn’t mind them sharing, and he might even encourage it.
This was just the beginning.
Initially, Tang Yi didn’t realize this, but Han Xiu Jie noticed and warned him and Zhao Ye to keep their distance from Xiao Hua, knowing Brother Bai could be possessive.
To everyone’s surprise, Zhao Ye immediately went to confirm it with Brother Bai, much to Han Xiu Jie’s frustration.
But what surprised them even more was that Brother Bai admitted it openly without any hesitation, and from then on, they all knew.
Xiao Hua understood it as Brother Bai having a good temper and not caring about these evaluations. She could see it from the last time he didn’t bother with the rumors in the base.
But Xiao Hua thought this wasn’t good. "He shouldn’t be so open with everyone. What if someone with bad intentions overhears?"
Tang Yi opened his mouth, intending to say that Xiao Hua had misunderstood. He wouldn’t tell just anyone; it was because Brother Bai liked her.
But he thought better of it and closed his mouth. Better not to say too much and let Brother Bai pursue her himself.
The two continued their watch, chatting idly.
In fact, Xiao Hua didn’t particularly like chatting. It was just that if she didn’t chat, she would easily doze off and had to move her mouth to stay awake.
Since the apocalypse, Xiao Hua has stuck to an early-to-bed, early-to-rise routine, keeping her schedule as regular as possible.
So, during the short hours of the night watch, she had already yawned countless times.
But tonight, their luck was amazing. So far, they hadn’t encountered a single zombie or mutated plant or animal.
Xiao Hua continued to nod at intervals and yawn, keeping watch while secretly calculating how long until she could rest.
Maybe fate decided Xiao Hua needed some entertainment.
The ground trembled, jolting Xiao Hua awake, and her heart raced as she glanced over at Bai Mu.
Out of nowhere, a massive creature appeared to the northwest of the tent, charging straight at them, kicking up clouds of dust.
Xiao Hua instantly summoned her powers. An ice blade appeared in her hand, and she readied herself to strike.
In the glow of her powers, Xiao Hua got a clear look at the creature.
Xiao Hua was totally thrown off: "What the—"
A pig??? Are you kidding me???
A pig bigger than a house?! This can't be real!
