    Chapter 217 Ding Xiaoying

Xiao Hua reassured her boyfriend with a few words, then turned her gaze to Zhang Ren, who had been captured by Tang Yi, and chuckled, "Let's move."

As it was getting late, the three of them escorted the captive and departed, with Bai Mu leading the way to their teammates' temporary residence—a finely built small villa.

Pushing the door open and entering the house, Xiao Hua saw a group of people gathered together. The girl's wounds had mostly healed, but she was still lying on a single bed, unconscious.

Xiao Hua quickly walked to the bedside, crouched down to examine the girl's complexion, and after a while, her gaze fell on Su Mo. "How is she?"

"She's been rescued, but her condition is still critical," Su Mo paused, then continued, "Her injuries are severe, and she's just a second-level enhanced person. It will take two to three months for her to recover."

Xiao Hua nodded slightly. Since the person had been rescued, the recovery couldn't be hurried.

"By the way, what is her power?" She suddenly blinked, her eyes glancing towards Lin Feng.

After all, according to Lin Feng, this girl named Xiaoying had helped him escape from Dr. Cao's clutches. But she was only a second-level enhanced person, which made her specific power quite intriguing.

Moreover, Xiao Hua felt that the name Xiaoying sounded somewhat familiar. It should have been mentioned in the novel, though the description wouldn't be extensive.

Lin Feng had been squatting by Xiaoying's side, reaching out to touch her, but upon realizing his zombie-like nails, he immediately retracted his hand.

His gaze remained fixed on Xiaoying, and after a few seconds of contemplation, he replied, "Teleportation ability."

Xiao Hua froze, gazing blankly at the girl on the bed. After a while, she slowly turned her neck, silently staring at Lin Feng, her eyes momentarily filled with despair.

Ding Xiaoying, one of Dr. Cao's key assistants in the later stages.

Although not particularly strong, with her teleportation skill, she had repeatedly saved Dr. Cao from the brink of death when the protagonist team was about to execute him, preserving his life countless times.

She had also spied on the protagonist team's plans numerous times, or snatched Su Mo from the midst of a crowd, with the Zombie King Lin Feng providing support. This was the only time Su Mo had been captured in the entire novel.

Of course, after aiding Dr. Cao in harming Su Mo, both Ding Xiaoying and Lin Feng met a tragic end, being utterly annihilated by Xiao Zui in a fit of rage.

Now, Xiao Hua looked left at Lin Feng squatting by the bed, and right at Ding Xiaoying lying on the bed, her feelings quite mixed.

Was this a gathering of villains?

Xiao Hua gently rubbed her chin, muttering to herself, "Life is truly unpredictable. In the novel, Ding Xiaoying and Lin Feng got along quite well, without the inherent hostility between humans and zombies."

But now, even though Lin Feng had been rescued by Xiao Hua long ago, he still managed to meet Ding Xiaoying, and their relationship was clearly unique.

Xiao Hua's eyes darted back and forth between the two, her fingers covering the lower half of her face, her lips curling up uncontrollably.

After a moment, she pursed her lips and nodded seriously, saying lightly, "That's a useful power."

"Of course," Lin Feng instinctively replied, his tone laced with a hint of unconscious pride.

    Xiao Hua: "..."

Xiao Hua pouted and rolled her eyes slightly. Noticing Ding Xiaoying's dry lips, she turned to Bai Mu and smiled faintly, "Brother Bai, hand me a bowl."

Bai Mu spread his right hand, and a ceramic bowl suddenly appeared in his palm.

Xiao Hua extended her index finger over the rim of the bowl, filling it with water, then gripped the rim with her fingers and handed the bowl filled with water to Lin Feng.

She raised her chin, her gaze fixed on Ding Xiaoying's face, "Give her some water."

"Thank you," Lin Feng's voice was slightly hoarse as he held the bottom of the bowl. After Xiao Hua let go, he gently lifted Ding Xiaoying, letting her lean against his shoulder, and carefully fed her some water.

Xiao Hua crossed her arms, watching Ding Xiaoying instinctively seek water, and leaned gently against Bai Mu's shoulder, her thoughts beginning to drift.

According to the book's description, Lin Feng worked for Dr. Cao because he had turned into a zombie and had little self-awareness.

    But what about Ding Xiaoying?

As a normal human, Xiao Hua had to figure out the reason why Ding Xiaoying later sided with Dr. Cao.

This matter couldn't just be left unresolved. What if she had already joined Dr. Cao's camp, and this was just a self-sacrificial ploy to fool the gullible Lin Feng?

Xiao Hua didn’t want to assume the worst about her, but she had to ensure the safety of her own people first and stay on guard.
