    Chapter 103: Leaving A City

Xiao Hua was escorted back to her room by Bai Mu, where she quietly slipped into bed next to Su Mo without bothering to wash up.

Yeah, she hadn’t done anything tonight.

Bai Mu returned to his own room and saw Xiao Zui still standing by the bedside, his arms crossed as he stared at Bai Mu.

Bai Mu raised an eyebrow. "Why aren't you sleeping?"

"With everything that’s happened, how am I supposed to sleep?" Xiao Zui looked at the frozen man and couldn't help but ask, "What exactly happened?"

Bai Mu gathered his thoughts and recounted what had happened that night.

Xiao Zui listened from start to finish, his frown deepening so much it could crush a bug. "This Doctor Cao, why would he do something like this?"

"I don't know." Bai Mu paused for a moment, then continued, "Let’s not worry about what happens next for now. The commotion was too big tonight; we need to leave as soon as possible tomorrow."

Xiao Zui nodded. "That's for sure. The crude oil has already been delivered, and we've got what we needed. We can leave anytime."

"Alright, let’s try to get some rest then." Bai Mu walked to the bedside and began to undress.

"Rest?" Xiao Zui glanced at the frozen man, then back at Bai Mu. "Aren't you afraid someone might suddenly come in?"

If they were caught hiding a zombie, no amount of explaining would save them.

Bai Mu suddenly laughed at Xiao Zui's expression, showing no mercy in his mockery. "Of course, we'll pretend. Otherwise, if someone walks in and sees us awake in the middle of the night, what will they think?"

    Xiao Zui: "..."

The night was still pitch-black, but noises kept coming from outside.

There were more than just the man in Doctor Cao's lab—other enhanced individuals had already turned into zombies. With the situation now exposed, there was no way Doctor Cao could return.

Bai Mu and Xiao Zui lay in bed waiting. Until dawn, no one came to search the inn.

It seemed the city lord of A City had no clue about Doctor Cao’s actions. Otherwise, with a level five zombie on the loose, he would search every inch of ground to find it.

Even so, Bai Mu didn’t relax his vigilance, staying awake all night in case something went wrong.

Xiao Hua, with her own worries weighing on her mind, didn’t sleep much either. As dawn broke, she got up on time and gently opened the door.

Standing at the top of the stairs, Xiao Hua glanced down to see some idle enhanced individuals already discussing last night’s events.

She pulled her gaze back and turned toward Bai Mu and Xiao Zui's room.

As she reached the door and raised her right hand to knock, Bai Mu opened the door. Xiao Hua's figure entered his view, and he smiled lightly, greeting her. "Good morning, Xiao Hua."

"Good morning." Xiao Hua glanced into the room. From this angle, she couldn’t see anyone. "Nothing happened, right?"

Bai Mu shook his head, opened the door wider to let Xiao Hua in, and said, "Nothing happened. Xiao Zui has already taken Xiu Jie to the city lord's mansion. After saying goodbye to the city lord, we'll leave."

Xiao Hua nodded slightly, then furrowed her brow as another thought struck her. "Do you think they might suspect us and not let us leave?"

There wasn’t much evidence pointing to Xiao Hua and the others, but what if the city lord acted unreasonably and decided to detain them?

In just a few seconds, Xiao Hua had already run through several scenarios in her mind, even simulating an escape plan in case they were captured.

Bai Mu was completely unfazed, saying with confidence, "They wouldn't dare."

Xiao Hua raised an eyebrow, her eyes wide with surprise.

"There are only three openly known level-two enhanced individuals in this base. What do they have to stop us?" Bai Mu looked down at Xiao Hua and chuckled softly.

"Maybe he's more scared we'll use this chance to grab power."

    Xiao Hua: "..."

Just three level-two enhanced individuals? That's it?

As for seizing power, not my thing, power isn’t.

True enough, about forty minutes later, Xiao Zui and Han Xiu Jie came back to the inn, clutching a note.

Xiao Hua took it and read: "Given the recent incident at the base, to ensure you're not inconvenienced or disrespected, I hereby agree to let the Scalpel Team leave Base A ASAP."

The handwriting looked rushed, like someone was being chased with a machete, and at the very bottom, there was the signature and fingerprint of the mayor of Base A.

    Xiao Hua: "..."

They really can’t wait to get rid of us.

Still, it worked out. The seven of them quickly cleaned up and grabbed some breakfast. Then, taking advantage of the chaos in Base A where no one paid attention to them, they used the mayor's note to swiftly slip to the city gate.

As they neared the exit, Xiao Hua’s heart pounded harder.

A mix of nerves, excitement, and thrill surged through her.

Luckily, the guards here, just like the mayor, were useless. After seeing the mayor's note, they didn't even check the inside of the vehicle and directly let them leave.
