Chapter 168: The Plateau Region (Part 2)
by 狡猾天狗Chapter 168: The Plateau Region (Part 2)
The vehicle continued heading west, passing by numerous bases without stopping, steadily heading towards the destination.
The journey from F City to the plateau was not long; it took only four days for the entire Blade Squad to reach the edge of their destination.
Compared to the flatlands of the central region, the western plateau had diverse terrain, with altitudes significantly higher than the plains, giving it a unique geographical edge.
The Blade Squad was still in a low-altitude area, followed by a climb, alternating between plains and hills, with the concrete road riddled with potholes and uneven surfaces.
If the biggest threat on the plains was the endless hordes of zombies and mutated animals, then the main danger on the plateau was the lack of oxygen.
"Ugh—"
Zhao Ye, sitting in the car, suddenly doubled over, covering his mouth as he dry-heaved.
"What's wrong?" Han Xiu Jie, sitting next to him, frowned and patted his back, trying to help him breathe.
Zhao Ye took a deep breath, his face turning pale. He slapped the driver's seat, making it shake.
"Brother Bai, pull over!"
Bai Mu immediately hit the brakes and sharply turned the steering wheel, pulling over to the side of the road.
As soon as the off-road vehicle came to a halt, before it even fully settled, Zhao Ye pushed Han Xiu Jie's hand away and quickly opened the door, rushing out.
Han Xiu Jie was completely confused. "What's wrong with Zhao Ye?"
Xiao Hua held a half-empty bottle of water in her hand. She unscrewed the cap with one hand and took a sip, trying to suppress the slight suffocating feeling in her chest.
"Altitude sickness," she said, sitting in the passenger seat and leaning out the window to look at Zhao Ye, who was crouching on the ground.
After driving for the better part of the day, they were now at an altitude far different from what they were accustomed to. Xiao Hua felt a tightness in her chest, a bit of a discomfort.
She pursed her lips, pressed her index finger against her temple, and gently massaged it, silently taking another sip of water.
After the apocalypse, human bodies had undergone changes, and with the awakening of their powers, they weren't as fragile as they used to be.
But even enhanced individuals were still just human.
Humans could get altitude sickness, and so could they.
Bai Mu stopped the car and turned off the engine. Noticing Xiao Hua's slightly pale face, he suddenly pulled something out and handed it to her.
Xiao Hua, feeling nauseous, listlessly glanced at the item in Bai Mu's hand—a sealed bottle of pills.
She took it and examined it closely, realizing it was anti-nausea medication. She popped one into her mouth and washed it down with a large gulp of water.
Xiao Hua handed the rest back to Bai Mu, who then tossed it to Han Xiu Jie in the back seat, along with a fresh bottle of water.
"Xiu Jie, take the medicine and go check on Ye Zi."
Han Xiu Jie nodded, opened the car door, and walked over to Zhao Ye, handing him a capsule.
Zhao Ye, still groggy from vomiting, didn't react right away. Han Xiu Jie took matters into his own hands, roughly pinching Zhao Ye's mouth open and shoving the capsule in, then quickly pouring water down his throat.
Zhao Ye coughed violently, and once he finally recovered, he slapped Han Xiu Jie on the back of the head.
Xiao Hua watched with interest for a moment before turning away. The medicine hadn't taken effect yet, and she sighed, "Is this medicine really going to work?"
She had just glanced at the indications; the medicine was for headaches and vomiting, and it had just passed its expiration date yesterday.
Xiao Hua's heart skipped a beat. Did this jerk give her expired medicine?
Her expression instantly turned cold, glancing sideways at the man beside her.
"It works," Bai Mu said as he took back the medicine bottle, his fingers turning it and noticing the date on the cap.
He calmly looked away, putting the bottle back into his storage space, and explained with a smile, "Time passes very slowly in my space, so it hasn't expired yet."
"That's better," Xiao Hua snorted, accepting the explanation.
Zhao Ye started to feel better. He lingered outside a bit longer, then pulled Han Xiu Jie back into the car and sat back in his original seat.
Bai Mu rested his right hand on the steering wheel and glanced back, "Everyone okay?"
"Everything's fine! It's just some stupid altitude sickness. How could anything happen to me?" Zhao Ye started bragging again for no reason.
"Oh, really?" Xiao Hua let out a long "tsk," her tone sarcastic, "I won't say who was vomiting, but I believe everyone knows."
Zhao Ye: "..."
Bai Mu didn't say anything, just quietly started the car and got back on the road.
