Chapter 61: Settling the Score
by 狡猾天狗Chapter 61: Settling the Score
In the basement.
Ji Yang was missing one arm, his face covered in bruises from the beating, leaving him looking utterly disheveled and defeated.
Xiao Hua stood with her arms crossed, watching coldly. She felt no guilt or sympathy, only a twisted sense of satisfaction.
He got what he deserved.
Bai Mu remained eerily calm, as if the ambush had never happened to him.
Ironically, Bai Mu owed Ji Yang a debt of gratitude. If Ji Yang's attack hadn't left him severely injured, he wouldn't have experienced such a rapid spiritual awakening and regained his memory so quickly.
When Ji Yang saw Xiao Hua and the others, he instinctively flinched.
But when he saw Bai Mu standing there, unscathed, a flicker of hope ignited within him.
Ji Yang crawled over using his hands and feet, shouting at Xiao Hua and the others, "He's not dead! He's not dead! Does that mean you'll let me go?"
The "he" naturally referred to Bai Mu.
Bai Mu's dark eyes simmered with a storm brewing inside them.
Xiao Hua’s face twisted in disgust, as if she had just swallowed something foul.
Talk about a wake-up call.
How could anyone be so shameless?
Bai Mu had narrowly escaped death. Why should they spare the person who had tried to murder him?
But Xiao Hua said nothing, still silently playing the part of a background observer. Bai Mu was the one directly involved, so it was up to him to resolve it.
Bai Mu gave Ji Yang a cold smile and drawled, "Dream on."
With that, he immediately led Xiao Hua and the others out with a cool, effortless grace.
Xiao Hua: "Oh, impressive."
As soon as they left the basement, a messenger arrived to inform Bai Mu that someone from above was calling him to the conference hall.
Bai Mu's eyes flickered as he asked with a smile, "Am I the only one?"
Guard: "Yes."
"That won't work," Xiao Hua said, scanning the guard's face, noticing it wasn't the same person from previous encounters.
So she started making things up, "Brother Bai was just ambushed by a scoundrel, and he's only able to get out of bed and walk today, but even then, he has to catch his breath after every three steps. We need to go with him."
Xiao Zui: "Exactly."
Bai Mu's expression was complicated, but he still cooperated by coughing a few times.
The guard frowned, about to refuse, "But..."
"Is that a problem?" Xiao Hua leaned against the doorframe, her cold gaze sweeping over him.
The guard hesitated, unsure how to respond.
He looked at the pale and weak-looking Bai Mu, then at the hostile expressions of Xiao Hua and Xiao Zui, and silently changed what he was about to say.
"Of course."
He decided it wasn’t worth ticking any of them off.
The guard led the way as Xiao Hua and the other two followed behind.
To keep up the act of Xiao Hua’s impromptu lie, Bai Mu took exaggerated breaths after every few steps, playing up his frailty.
The guard didn’t rush them, and it took quite some time for the trio to reach the conference hall.
Inside the conference hall, General Zou, Junior General Ji, several high-ranking officials, and a stranger were seated.
There were also some guards around.
The stranger looked at Xiao Hua and Xiao Zui with surprise and displeasure, quickly suppressing it as he smiled and said, "Everyone's here, sit."
General Zou nodded at them, his face dark and grim, introducing, "This is General Yang."
Xiao Hua saw through it immediately—General Zou was clearly being ganged up on by the other two.
General Yang. The surname of Junior General Ji’s wife was Yang.
It looked like today was going to be a setup.
Xiao Hua sat down, thinking to herself.
General Yang first exchanged pleasantries with them, expressing anger over the zombie horde, concern for Bai Mu’s health, and probing into Junior General Ji’s situation.
Bai Mu coughed occasionally, responding slowly.
"No one wants the zombie horde incident," he said. "Thank you for your kindness."
"My health isn’t great. I was only just able to walk here today, please understand."
"Aside from losing an arm and his powers, Junior Master Ji is doing fine."
General Yang suddenly stood up, a forced smile plastered on his face as he glared at Bai Mu. "Missing an arm and having no powers, and you still call that fine?"
Bai Mu remained expressionless. "Junior General Ji made mistakes, he has to pay the price."
General Yang’s face darkened, angrily rebuking Bai Mu. "No one died, this is too much!"
What a sneaky old bastard.
Xiao Hua mimicked General Yang’s sarcasm. "No one died, so why are you getting so bent out of shape?"
"You!"
Xiao Hua lounged back in her chair, legs crossed, a mocking smirk playing on her lips. "It’s just an arm. I was thinking of chopping off all his limbs."
Fuming, General Yang’s hand instinctively went to his gun holster.
The four guards behind him stepped forward, some raising their guns while others prepared their powers.
Xiao Hua’s words hit like a slap in the face, and the room erupted into a tense standoff.
The tension in the room was thick enough to cut with a knife.
General Zou quickly stood up, trying to intervene.
Xiao Hua remained seated, her foot swinging lazily, as if completely unaware of the danger.
But in the conference hall, General Yang's limbs were trapped in ice, and the four guards behind him were frozen solid.
Xiao Hua picked up the teacup on the table, took a delicate sip of the tea, and coldly said, "You care so much? Fine, I’ll let you take his place if you insist."
As she spoke, Xiao Hua's eyes lingered on General Yang's limbs.
General Yang broke out in a cold sweat.
He tried hard to calm his racing heart, not wanting to fall behind Xiao Hua.
At the same time, he didn't believe it in his heart: No, she wouldn't dare.
Xiao Hua slowly walked in front of General Yang, reached out, and grabbed his left arm.
She looked at General Yang's expression, lazily smiled, her eyes full of mockery: "Guess what, do you think I dare?"
General Yang didn't dare to gamble and immediately said, "Ji Yang is at your disposal!"
After all, he was just the deceased son of his brother-in-law, not someone who couldn't be sacrificed.
Xiao Hua still didn't let go, seemingly thinking, but secretly glancing at Bai Mu.
Damn it.
What to do next?
Seeing this scene, General Zou sat down again, drinking his tea comfortably.
But Bai Mu couldn't stand by and let Xiao Hua take all the blame.
Looking at the empty conference hall, he sighed softly and dropped a bombshell.
