Chapter 34: Thoughts (Part 1)
by 狡猾天狗Chapter 34: Thoughts (Part 1)
For four consecutive days, Xiao Hua and her group of five had been rushing around various hospitals in City C.
Originally, according to their plan, they intended to sweep through the hospitals in three days, collecting medicine and crystal nuclei.
The problem now was that they hadn’t found the second-tier crystal nuclei they needed.
In the first three days, they had collected second-tier crystal nuclei of the metal, wood, fire, and earth elements, and they even found a mutated wind element crystal nucleus.
However, what they truly needed—water element, lightning element, and spatial element zombies—they hadn’t even seen a trace of.
Finally, today brought some progress.
"Holy crap! A water element zombie!"
Zhao Ye dodged the water ball attack from the water element zombie and shouted excitedly, "Our bad luck has ended! The unlucky trio has made a major breakthrough!"
"Dad’s luck is off the charts, huh?" Xiao Hua glared at Zhao Ye, not stopping her attacks.
Her plane crashed, she inexplicably transmigrated into a book, and she landed in an apocalyptic world—her luck was top-tier in every way.
Even if it was the kind of bad luck, she knew it herself, so why did he have to say it out loud?
And now, finally encountering a water element zombie, Xiao Hua just wanted to quickly kill it and crack open its skull to absorb its crystal nucleus.
Summoning an ice blade in her hand, Xiao Hua charged forward to face the zombie head-on.
"Clang!" The sound of the ice blade clashing with sharp claws was crisp and loud, causing both Xiao Hua and the zombie to stagger backward, unsteady.
Bai Mu frowned, scanning the area, sensing something was wrong, and couldn’t help but warn, "Xiao Hua, don't get carried away."
Xiao Hua paused, and her charging steps became more cautious.
Bai Mu rarely gave her commands during battle; he usually only gave pointers afterward.
And whenever he did warn her, something major was about to happen.
"Watch out!" Su Mo's strained voice suddenly reverberated in her eardrums.
Xiao Hua suddenly felt a chill on the back of her neck, shooting straight up to the top of her head.
Her survival instincts kicked in, and she instantly formed a block of ice at the back of her head, blocking the fatal strike.
However, the zombie behind her was too close and too strong. Xiao Hua was still sent flying several meters away from the force of the swipe and was caught by Bai Mu, who rushed over.
"Ptooey!" Xiao Hua, still sitting in Bai Mu's arms, hadn't even had time to get up before she spat out a mouthful of blood.
Shit.
A stealth zombie.
There was no denying that the concealment power was cursed.
When a teammate had it, like Bai Mu, he was the most reassuring partner. But when an enemy had it, like the zombie, it became the most feared presence.
Xiao Hua wasn’t one to back down, even though she was scared, but she was held down by Bai Mu.
"Heal her," Bai Mu called out to Su Mo, and after a brief moment of eye contact with Xiao Hua, he disappeared.
A few seconds later, Xiao Hua could only hear the sounds of blades piercing flesh and weapons clashing in the air, but she couldn’t see anything.
Bai Mu had also gone invisible and was locked in a continuous struggle with the concealment zombie.
Su Mo rushed over to heal Xiao Hua, but Xiao Hua’s eyes remained somewhat dazed.
Bai Mu’s gaze just now had been terrifying.
Five minutes later, the water zombie inexplicably lost an arm.
Ten minutes later, half a shoulder flew out of nowhere.
Twelve minutes later, both the person and the zombie finally revealed their forms.
Bai Mu was suspended in mid-air, holding a dagger embedded in the back of the zombie’s head. With a twist of his wrist, he extracted the crystal nucleus and then kicked the zombie away.
The zombie on the ground was now missing half its shoulder.
"Holy shit," Xiao Hua’s eyes widened as she looked at Bai Mu, ready to burst with praise.
But feeling Bai Mu’s aura and his gaze looking back, Xiao Hua was left with only a meek smile.
Pausing, she changed what she was about to say, "Brother Bai, you’re awesome."
Bai Mu turned his gaze away, said nothing, and vanished again to assist Xiao Zui and the others against the water zombie.
Shortly after, Bai Mu reappeared next to Xiao Hua and handed her the water crystal nucleus.
Xiao Hua looked at Bai Mu, then back at the “hot potato” nucleus in her hand, and tentatively took it.
It wasn’t that she was scared; it was just that Bai Mu’s cold expression was downright terrifying!
Bai Mu’s lips curled into a smile again, as if nothing had happened.
The next few days passed without incident, collecting supplies and heading toward F City as planned, but it felt almost... unsettling.
