Chapter 101: "Zombies" (Part 1)

Dr. Cao walked up to the person in the cage and looked down for a moment, then turned to the record-keeping staff beside him.

"How's the progress?"

The person next to him kept his head down, dutifully reporting the situation: "There's been almost no change. His willpower is strong; he's forcibly suppressing the zombie transformation."

"Good," Dr. Cao said, not with anger but with a morbid smile. "Then increase the dosage."

The person in the cage became agitated upon hearing Dr. Cao's voice, grabbing the cage and causing a loud "clatter."

The man seemed unable to speak, only able to make hoarse growls with his mouth open, his eyes bloodshot and filled with hatred as he glared at Dr. Cao.

"Let's see how long you can keep resisting," Dr. Cao said, admiring his perfect "creation," his face filled with anticipation.

"Once a crystal nucleus forms at the back of your head, you'll become a level five zombie. At that time, you'll be under my control!"

Xiao Hua shut her eyes, unable to bear watching any longer.

It was already clear. Dr. Cao was researching the zombie virus, a virus that could turn enhanced individuals into zombies.

And these were level five zombies. Even though Xiao Hua had been working non-stop since the apocalypse, she was still only at the mid-stage of level four.

If Dr. Cao succeeded, the consequences would be catastrophic.

Xiao Hua turned to Bai Mu, instinctively seeking help. Her lips moved, but no sound came out. "What do we do?"

Bai Mu tightly gripped Xiao Hua's hand and gave it a reassuring pat. "It's okay. Let's wait and see."

Xiao Hua took a deep breath and slowly exhaled, forcing herself to resist the urge to act immediately, continuing to observe the situation.

Meanwhile, Dr. Cao examined the data for a while, seemingly observing the zombie transformation of the man in the cage.

"A second-level enhanced individual, after being injected with the serum, can become a level five zombie. I wonder what a fourth-level enhanced individual would become?"

Dr. Cao's next words slowly came: "Xiao Hua from the elite team. If we can turn her into a zombie, she'd be the most perfect weapon in the apocalypse."

What the hell is this guy thinking? Xiao Hua felt like she needed to pinch her nose bridge to avoid being infuriated by Dr. Cao's words. But before she could react, she saw Bai Mu's face turn cold, as if he was about to kill Dr. Cao at any second.

Xiao Hua grabbed Bai Mu's arm and whispered hurriedly, "Brother Bai, calm down, calm down, calm down!"

Bai Mu didn't say anything, standing there rigidly.

On Dr. Cao's end, after seeing no progress for several days, he was growing increasingly anxious. He shot his assistant a cold, cruel look.

The assistant, like a puppet, mechanically carried out Dr. Cao's commands.

A few minutes later, the man in the cage received another injection.

He grew increasingly agitated, letting out a beast-like roar, his face twitching uncontrollably. His ten fingers broke through the skin, revealing sharp claws.

He continuously slammed into the iron cage, only to be repelled by the electric shocks around it, causing his whole body to convulse.

Dr. Cao stood nearby, eyes glued to the data, muttering under his breath, “A little more, just a little more, and he’ll completely turn into a zombie.”

Xiao Hua clenched her fists, then turned sharply to Bai Mu, who gave a nod.

Xiao Hua didn’t act rashly. She quietly destroyed the switch that powered the cage.

And before Dr. Cao could react, a small ice blade swiftly severed the cage’s locks.

The man, sensing the cage had loosened, immediately tore it apart and rushed out, charging straight at Dr. Cao.

The man’s eyes turned blood red, his nails instantly growing an inch long as he swung them down hard at Dr. Cao.

Xiao Hua could sense that Dr. Cao currently only had the strength of a level two and seemed as good as dead.

But was it really going to be that easy?

Dr. Cao was, after all, the final boss in the story. How could he possibly die so easily?

At the last second, a figure darted in front of Dr. Cao, blocking the man’s attack.

Xiao Hua frowned as she saw the assistant, who had been acting as a mere background character.

Xiao Hua hadn’t detected any power fluctuations from him and had assumed he was just an ordinary person.

But when he moved, Xiao Hua could finally judge from the power fluctuations that he was at level three, late stage.

Xiao Hua’s brow twitched. Who was this person in the story?

But there was no time to recall. In an instant, the two were locked in battle.

The assistant’s powers were strange and unpredictable. Shadow-like entities emerged one after another, some protecting Dr. Cao while others fought the man.

The man hadn’t fully turned into a zombie yet and didn’t possess the strength of a level five zombie. Though he started with fierce momentum, he was quickly about to be overwhelmed.

Xiao Hua subtly increased the water vapor in the air. Once it reached a critical concentration, it instantly formed a vast ice field, trapping Dr. Cao and his assistant.

Seeing her chance to finish him off, Xiao Hua didn’t hold back.

Logically, Dr. Cao should be dead for sure this time.

Suddenly, another figure darted out from the lab. His power fluctuations emanated, and a deep purple liquid flowed toward the ice field.

Several ice blocks were corroded, making Xiao Hua shudder.

The person who had secretly appeared was actually identical to the assistant.

Dr. Cao, no longer looking composed, turned ferocious and shouted in a harsh tone inside the lab, “Who?”

Xiao Hua didn’t say a word, and seven water dragons appeared out of thin air, all charging toward Dr. Cao.

One twin used the deep purple liquid to block Xiao Hua’s water dragons, while the other enveloped Dr. Cao and the others in black shadows, allowing them to quickly escape the lab.
