Chapter 256 The Hidden Space
by 猫狸Chapter 256: The Hidden Space
In the mirror that sealed the entrance to the Mirror Apartment, amidst the ceaselessly churning blood aura, a ghastly pale hand directed Su Bai and the others toward the second floor. Though pallid, bloodless, and gaunt, its distinct knuckles suggested it was not a woman’s hand.
Su Bai glanced at the small, round mirror in his own hand. Its circular surface was hazy and gray, yet an identical hand pointed in the same direction. Even when Su Bai moved the mirror, the direction indicated by the hand remained unchanged.
Considering the unique nature of this round mirror, Su Bai believed the hand originated from the mirror itself, not from one of the apartment's existing mirrors. The appearance of a hand in the mirror at the entrance seemed more like a projection.
"Delivery?" Feng Ling had also picked up on the key word in Su Bai's recent statement. "Su Bai, did you… receive an additional task?"
Feng Ling and the other players' sole task was to survive for seventy-two hours.
"Something like that, and the cargo itself is helping with navigation." Without hesitation, Su Bai turned the round mirror toward Feng Ling, allowing her to see the pale hand emerging from the gray haze within. "It might just lead us to a crucial location."
The administrator had instructed Su Bai to use this mirror to find the one unique mirror in the apartment building, which reminded Su Bai of Yao Qing’s precognitive dream.
In Yao Qing’s dream, he saw a mysterious room surrounded by mirrors, with a single mirror placed at its center. This information sounded very much like the key to completing this game.
In his past life, Su Bai had encountered many individuals with prophetic abilities. In truth, prophetic abilities themselves were neither inherently good nor bad; most were like Yao Qing’s, yielding only vague, fragmented, or even chaotic prophetic information. Even if the power of the Red Moon within them grew stronger or their bodies became more powerful, their prophetic abilities would not improve significantly, and their combat strength was negligible in the increasingly dire Nightmare World.
Most of the time, the strength of a prophet depended not on the incomplete prophetic information but on the players’ interpretation of their prophecies. Some prophets could only dryly state the information they received, while others could, with some effort, use their understanding to fill in the gaps and clarify the vague parts. There were also prophets who could construct a relatively clear and complete future from fragmented linguistic information, even using their prophecies to lead entire teams. The skill level among these prophets was clear at a glance.
Therefore, as long as prophets did not deliberately lie, any prophecy was useful and meaningful.
The mysterious mirror room in Yao Qing’s prophecy also reminded Su Bai that although those ghosts had lingered in the mirror world for a very long time, they had never found the location of the out-of-control Eerie Entity, as if it too was hidden in some secret space.
Could these two mysterious spaces be connected? Or were they simply the same mysterious room?
After piecing this together, Su Bai believed that as long as they found the mirror-surrounded room, they would likely find the key to this game.
Fortunately, they now had a guide.
"It seems we go this way." Su Bai and Feng Ling began ascending the stairs to the second floor.
The biggest difference between the mirror world and the outside world was that this space, filled with blood aura, had mirrors hanging on every wall. Even at the turn of the staircase, there was a mirror. These mirrors, like the round mirror in Su Bai’s hand, each had a pale hand pointing further upward. The difference was that the mirrors in the mirror world swirled with crimson vortices, while the round mirror was shrouded in a gray haze. Though equally strange, it evoked a sense of calm.
Guided by these mirrors and the hand, Su Bai and Feng Ling made their way to the third floor, the highest level of the apartment. In the corridor, which resembled an abandoned ruin, they encountered some shadowy figures and ghosts who still retained consciousness. But Xiao Huo’s presence was lethal to these corruption-eroded beings.
Or rather, as long as the power within Su Bai’s body was not exhausted, those insignificant ghosts would be devoured and burned to ashes the moment they touched the blue flames. Although the power within Su Bai’s body was somewhat chaotic, the amount available for consumption was considerably greater than before. With Xiao Huo’s diligent self-control, it should be sufficient.
At the same time, just as the administrator had said before they entered the mirror world, the blood-red string of beads on Su Bai’s wrist had been continuously absorbing the surrounding power since they entered. When Su Bai looked down, one of the beads had already turned a deep, glossy blackish-red, meaning that in that short time, the Mist Shop had gained a new item for sale.
When Su Bai and Feng Ling stood in the third-floor corridor, mirrors hung on both walls at regular intervals. In every mirror lining both sides of the corridor, a pale hand pointed toward the end of the third-floor hallway.
Compared to other floors, the walls on the third floor were splattered with many bloodstains, and sticky blood flowed slowly on the ground. This reminded Su Bai of what the Eerie Entities had said earlier: they had killed sacrifices in the apartment, attempting to use their blood to appease the out-of-control Eerie Entity, but only ended up enraging it further.
"There’s nothing there." Feng Ling was getting used to Su Bai’s mysterious ways, but when she followed the hand’s guidance and looked toward the end of the corridor, she found nothing but a wall—a dead end.
"Is that so?" Su Bai also looked in the same direction as Feng Ling.
Unlike Feng Ling, Su Bai could see a mirror that almost covered the entire wall at the end of the third-floor corridor. Moreover, this mirror looked different from the others in the mirror world; it had no churning blood aura, only a gray, hazy scene like the round mirror in Su Bai’s hand.
"You see something," Feng Ling stated as a fact.
"Yes, perhaps a mirror only visible to players who have accepted a special task." As Su Bai spoke, he walked toward the end of the corridor.
The blood on the third floor was filthy and viscous. As Su Bai walked, blue flames preceded his steps, burning away the foul blood before his feet could touch the ground. For a moment, the third-floor corridor seemed paved with a carpet of blue flames.
With the blood on the ground completely burned away, Su Bai stretched out his right hand toward the mirror in his vision.
Su Bai’s right hand touched the mirror as if it were contacting water, causing ripples on the surface, and then passed through the mirror without any hindrance.
"There’s a hidden space here." After reaching this conclusion, Su Bai turned and signaled for Feng Ling to follow him in.
